Background

The following video is allegedly a “leaked” video from the Department of Homeland Security. Per the on screen display, it was shot on November 23, 2019. The object is allegedly is Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP) and can not be explained.

The video was leaked to and published by Andy via his NY UAP DISCUSSION‘s YouTube Channel, and  his subsequent Twitter account.

According to the video’s description, as posted by NY UAP DISCUSSION (which is unedited):

“I am finally proud to present to you guys the very FIRST legitimate footage of a genuine UAP craft tracked for over 40 minutes by the department of Homeland Security using FLIR optics system in black hot mode. The footage was captured by an RC-26 reconnaissance plane looking for drug smugglers somewhere over Tuscon Arizona. The object was spotted 20 minutes into the footage and was tracked for a full 40 minutes until the footage ended. The object in question has been verified as anomalous by the organization which analyzed the footage, however, that analysis will be released later on in the year as it is still going through its peer review stage. The object in question is traveling anywhere between 90-200 mph as it flies over the desert surface and is also changing direction as it flies. It is estimated to be about 5 or 6 ft long and looks to have a second smaller appendage that flies with it but it is still uncertain if the smaller orb like object is actually a part of the main one or separate from the main. Also there is no clear indication that there is anything between both parts to show they are attached. The object is emitting zero heat yet accelerates and decelerates throughout the footage. The change in speed and direction is evident by the terrain as it changes while the object is being tracked and also the speed can be seen in the upper right hand side of the FLIR info. The object can also be seen rotating as it flies. Birds, balloons, drones, and all other conventional explanation has been ruled out until Mick West gets a hold of this and claims the object is nothing more than a Frisbee thrown by the worlds strongest man. Mick West himself. I wanna give a special Thank you to Dave Falch for all of his help with analyzing this footage for me!! That will be posted next!!!”

The Black Vault reached out to NY UAP DISCUSSION to host the RAW/UNEDITED file. That was denied, but was said to be released at a later date. The file that was released, and archived here with permission, is 8GB in size, and according to NY UAP DISCUSSION, is the largest available size at the moment.

YouTube’s compression seemed to have compressed the footage by about a third. So, this file here is exactly what NY UAP DISCUSSION sent to archive.

There has been NO formal analysis by The Black Vault, though Dave Falch who specializes in FLIR footage, did. That video is also available below.

The Video Evidence

The Best Resolution Available

The “RAW” and unedited file apparently is being held, for now. According to NY UAP DISCUSSION, it will be released in the future at an unknown date. They claim a full analysis was done, and once that is published, the “RAW” file will be released with it.

In an attempt to archive the best resolution available, The Black Vault reached out on October 6, 2021, to get the file. It was said there is an 8+ GB file that was used for the YouTube version upload (see below), though YouTube crushed it to approximately 2.4GB and it was also 1080p 50fps, a non-standard format for something like this.

Getting the 8+ GB file was proven to be a challenge. After some back and forth, it was determined the 8+ GB file was an upconvert of a 2+ GB file, to take it from 1080p to 4K. The Black Vault through a private arrangement, received what was said to be the original files sent over from the anonymous source. There were two files total. Per request, The Black Vault was asked to redact identifying location information / GPS coordinates, along with adding an identifying image to the video. This was done, per that agreement, and the best copy was exported, keeping the original 1920x1080p 30fps quality and exporting at the absolute top bit rate available (without up-converting the frame size).

There seems to be no loss in visual quality after the re-export, once the requested redactions were done.

The result is a 4.24GB file, which is available for direct download within this .zip file [4.16GB]. Sadly, the compression artifacts are in the “best quality available” versions sent over to me for exporting. I was told these were the best versions available.

Note: There are a few frames seemingly missing around the 00:29:59 mark. That is where the two clips spliced together, and the source files used seemed to have dropped the frames by whomever created/exported them originally. I am noting that here in case anyone felt I edited the video.

Here is an archived .zip file [2.37GB] of the above YouTube video. This is not the same as the export done by The Black Vault, which is available for download above.

Background

The following case was submitted to The Black Vault / TBV Investigations. The reporting witness, who wished to remain anonymous, submitted videos on behalf of a family member. In addition, a corroborating video was also submitted.

The original testimony submitted to The Black Vault was the following:
Hello,

I am reaching out to you because I do not know who else to turn to regarding a recent UFO sighting in San Diego, CA. I know you are all leading experts in the fields of astrophysics and UFO tracking, so I’m hopeful you can finally provide some answers, other than that they are flares.

At around 8:30 PM in the UTC area of San Diego, CA, my brother and his girlfriend observed 7 strange orbs floating in a horizontal line roughly three hundred feet above the ground. You can see the videos for yourself below. (See “The Evidence” below)

After my brother showed me the videos, I immediately knew they were the same orbs we had seen earlier in 2004, except that time they had moved very quickly, stopped on a dime, and were constantly changing formation. 

That night, I posted the fourth video to Twitter and tagged the accounts of nearby Miramar Air Station, San Diego County, San Diego Police Department, our local FOX / NBC news stations, and several UFO tracking accounts, hoping for a response, but nothing. I also emailed the videos to local news stations, but have received no response to date.

My burning question is this: Are these orbs advanced military technology or actual UFOs? 

Since posting my brother’s video to Twitter, several accounts have posted their own videos from that night. What’s odd is that all they appear to all be the same orbs, but the locations are in some cases many miles apart. One video was from Bonita, CA while another was from Rosarito, Mexico. Some other users reported sightings in Laguna Beach and Ocean Beach as well.

Also interesting to note, at around 10 PM, roughly 1.5 hours after my brother and his girlfriend spotted these orbs, they and many others on Twitter noted that jets were being scrambled from Miramar Air Station, which is very unusual for that time of night.

Tom DeLonge’s UFO Sighting Video

After The Black Vault was contacted regarding the above videos, it was learned that Tom DeLonge, rock star and CEO of To The Stars Academy of Arts & Science (TTSA), posted a UFO video and story on Instagram from the same evening and general vicinity.

So last night I get a text from somebody that there was a UAP right off of the beach where I live. I ran to my balcony and saw it split into two pieces and raise vertically. I grabbed Marie, jumped in my truck and went straight down to the beach. We were the only ones on the beach last night as this light disappeared, reappeared, broke into three pieces and stacked vertically with one little red dot flying around the top and then disappeared for the rest of the evening. This video doesn’t show much, but we were up quite late watching the light dance about a half a mile to a mile off of the beach. It was huge, and it was fiery orange. Of course I called up Lue Elizondo as I was there, and he was telling me all of these things I was supposed to do with location, geographic details, weather, altitude and distance etc. Of course, I was completely worthless when it came to those details. But yes, big deal last night in Encinitas, CA. Lue checked immediately, there were no flights in the area except one that I had my eyes on the entire time. No military, no boats, and a bunch of hovering lights that were stacking on top of each other… wild. Who knows…

Being the same night as the other submission, it was noted during our investigation, and worthy of mention here. However, it appears to solve Tom DeLonge’s UFO video, a different explanation may be needed than solving the other ‘multiple orb’ videos.

The Analysis & Investigation

The following video was put together by Jim Kerr to analyze the evidence within this case file.

“Multiple Orb Videos”

First, we tackled the aspect of this which had the best, and most, visual evidence. This involved the numerous videos outlined above, and the mainstream media reporting.

2018 Identical Case – Aircraft Flares

In August of 2018, another nearly identical incident occurred in the exact same area. The event, which resulted in multiple videos of the objects, was quickly explained by the military as aircraft flares. Here is a screenshot from one of those videos, clearly showing the many similarities between the 2018 aircraft flares, and the 2020 “UFOs.”

Air Traffic Control for the night of March 31, 2020, puts the nail in the coffin regarding the explanation of aircraft flares. Special thanks to Twitter user, and private pilot Darkstar IE, for finding recordings that prove beyond any shadow of a doubt aircraft flares were being dropped.

ATC traffic from KSAN, (San Diego) at 8:00-8:30 PM on March 31, 2020, captured the following audio clip:

The evidence is clear.

“Raider 28” Calls “So-Cal” operating in the area while doing a “Battlefield Illumination Drop” wherein they stated that, “heavy flares out here, so if you get called about it, its us.”

With the evidence above, we believe these videos and this case, can be determined as “solved” with the culprit being aircraft flares.

That leads us to Tom DeLonge’s UFO video as that is not explained as easily with the same explanation.

Tom DeLonge’s UFO Video

Juxtaposing Tom DeLonge’s UFO video posted to Instagram, to those submitted to The Black Vault above, it only contained one orb/object. Although his written post/comment contained other details not depicted in the video; we had to go by what we could prove — not what was said in the post.

We began by exporting some of the frames from the video.

Still Frame Captures

Contrary to what some observers may think about DeLonge’s UFO video, the object is not pulsating nor is it changing shapes/sizes. The effect you see is a result of the cell phone camera’s auto-focus feature, which in the extreme dark setting that DeLonge was in, the camera is having trouble finding an object to focus on due to the low light. So, it goes in and out of focus, in order to try and get something into focus.

There were very few frames that came into focus, however, this one, nearly did:

It is this frame that likely will help the most in determining the identity of DeLonge’s UFO.

We know by his testimony, that DeLonge went to the beach and looked outwards, which would be West given his position in Encinitas / Southern California. In the sky above him, at the approximate time frame of DeLonge’s UFO video, would be Venus. Below, you will find the night sky, with a closeup of what Venus would look like, courtesy of Stellarium.

Although this may sound like a classic Project Blue Book debunking explanation, it may actually be the most likely explanation for DeLonge’s video.

Not only do we know Venus would be in that direction that DeLonge was looking; the video’s single frame that was nearly ‘in focus,’ captures an image that has striking similarities to a photo that we do know is Venus, taken by TBV Investigations researcher, and amateur astronomer, Jim Kerr, on May 21, 2017 at 11:33 pm:

There are a few things to note. First off, the oblong shaping of the object in DeLonge’s UFO video and the photograph of Venus. As indicated above with the Stellarium screen shots, Venus has “phasing” just like the moon, wherein you don’t always see the full, round shape, of the planet. Both DeLonge’s UFO and the photograph of Venus indicate that is the case here: phasing. This would cause the oblong shaping of the objects in both images above.

Second, the coloring. Both DeLonge’s UFO photograph and Kerr’s Venus photograph have a similar orange tint. Kerr’s photo was taken with a much higher resolution camera, a D300, which you can clearly see a resolution difference when comparing the two images. However, the color tint is similar. This color tint is caused by “Chromatic Aberration.” As explained by Nikon, chromatic aberration is:
“Chromatic aberration is a phenomenon in which light rays passing through a lens focus at different points, depending on their wavelength. There are two types of chromatic aberration: axial chromatic aberration and lateral chromatic aberration.

Axial chromatic aberration is a variation in the length of each wavelength of light and lateral chromatic aberration is a variation in the magnification of the different colors of light; becoming more visible at the image periphery. Axial chromatic aberration results in blurred colors in front of and behind the focus position due to the differences in each color’s focal point. It can be noticeable at the peripheries of extremely bright portions of an image. Lateral Chromatic Aberration is the cause of color fringing. It is only seen at the edges of an image.

Lateral chromatic aberration is reduced to some degree by combining different lens elements with different refractive indexes, but optically speaking, it cannot be completely eliminated. In addition to red and its complimentary color cyan, and blue and its complimentary color yellow, some lenses may exhibit complex color fringing that combines these two primary types. It is greatly reduced by low-dispersion ED glass.”

When taking all of that into account, putting together side-by-side DeLonge’s UFO video, and a known photograph of Venus, the similarities are striking. Despite the clear resolution difference (ie: pixelation), the color: matches. The phasing: matches.

It is believed that although at some point, based on DeLonge’s description, that he may have witnessed what is believed to be the aircraft flares (see above), upon deeper investigation, the video itself is believed to be Venus.

An attempt was made to contact DeLonge for follow ups, but the attempts went unanswered.

Conclusion

Due to the overwhelming evidence, many of the videos (including those submitted directly to The Black Vault) can be explained as aircraft flares being dropped on the night of March 31, 2020.

The secondary piece of evidence analyzed, the video by Tom DeLonge along with his sighting report, is likely connected to the flares being dropped. It is plausible that based on DeLonge’s description, he witnessed the flares as well. However, the video posted to his Instagram account is likely the Planet Venus. The evidence is very convincing when comparing a still frame from his video, which was the closest moment his camera’s auto-focus feature came into focus, and putting it next to a confirmed photograph of Venus in the night sky. The color and phasing of the planet in the image are nearly identical.

For this reason, all of the events explored that occurred on the night of March 31, 2020, can be adequately explained.

Update April 14, 2020

After this original case was posted, some have pointed to a post by Sean Cahill / @mintyhyperspace on Twitter to disassociate Tom DeLonge’s UFO video with the flares being dropped. It insinuated DeLonge was too far away to see the flares, therefore he feels it did not play a role. This post said the following:

This tweet operates off the assumption that the flares were dropped off the coast of Tijuana, and only one time. More likely than that, they were dropped off the coast of San Diego, further North, as indicated by the SAN DIEGO ATC recordings that can be listened to above.

“VMGR-352’s aircraft is the Lockheed Martin C-130J that has a cruising altitude of 27,000 feet. Flares are deployed at cruising altitude, then ignited after they fall 1000 feet. If the above data is applicable on March 31st, ( I believe it was), this means the flares were ignited at approx 26,000 feet.

This would make the flares visible from Tijuana, Mexico to Laguna Beach, California. At a distance of 108 miles, the earths curvature at 100 miles away would drop 6668.41 feet, meaning the flares would be visible the full 108 miles along the coast.”

Background

On 01/16/2019, the witness called the TBV Investigations Hot-Line and requested an investigator contact her so she could report a UFO sighting. The case was assigned to TBV Investigator Jim Kerr for investigation and analysis.

Witness Testimony

On 01/31/2018 at 4:35 pm, I contacted the witness by phone. She stated she couldn’t talk and provided her email address for communication. Multiple times I attempted to contact her by email for her statement and to answer questions. The only response was two emails containing video footage of the UFO she observed.

Additionally, during our initial phone conversation, the witness stated, in essence, her video footage told the entire story. If the witness responds to my email requests for her statement and answered questions, I will add the information to this report.

Astronomical Data

Searching the archives of Stellarium, (a planetarium software that shows exactly what you see when you look up at the stars and the daytime sky), I was able to view exactly what celestial objects were visible to the witness in the sky from witness’ location in Maryville, TN, 01/10/2019 at 1:18 am.

According to the data available on Stellarium, the star Sirius was the brightest object in the witness’ night sky. The moon was not visible, rise 10:41 am, set 9:59 pm. Sirius was located at an approx 200-degree compass reading SSW and approx 45 degrees above the horizon. Sirius, located in the constellation Canis Major, the Greater Dog, is the brightest star in the night sky. It is easy to view in the SE-S-or-SW on evenings from winter to mid-spring. Sirius’ color is blue-white and sometimes called the rainbow star as it flickers with many colors due to viewing through the earth’s atmosphere, especially when it low on the horizon. Sirius is often reported as a UFO.

Conclusion

I have experience as an amateur astronomer, photographer, and videographer, I have spent many years taking video and photos of celestial objects. I have filmed jet aircraft, celestial objects, birds, bugs, helium balloons, lightning storms, cloud formations, stars and more. I have observed the star Sirius on countless occasions and familiar with its appearance, colors, location and the fact it has been misidentified as a UFO.

Based on analyzing the witness’ two submitted videos along with my experience, I can say with 100% certainty the object the witness observed and videoed was a star. Based on the video evidence, the star in the footage has the same rainbow colors as the star Sirius. Sirius was the brightest object in the witness’ night sky and the easiest to video. In my opinion, the star the witness videoed was Sirius. It is also important to note, the star in the footage goes in and out of focus due to the camera hunting for focus.

My conclusion: Astronomical, star

“As usual I was photographing The classified cabal planes I had been very hard and asking the aliens telepathically if they existed to show themselves as I was photographing one of their menacing green planes this thing decided it wanted to be the main attraction it winked on out of nowhere as the video shows and just as quickly it winked out. I have photographed many strange things this is the only one that I am absolutely sure is alien No Doubt and when I expand it I am sure I see some kind of humanoids in it but I would like other people to verify that but I’m sure that I see them I’m going to send the picture and the video so you can expand picture see if you see humanoids this is one of the only sightings to affect me emotionally.”

The Analysis

As an amateur astronomer, photographer and videographer I have spent many years observing celestial objects in the night sky. I have experience with astrophotography along with coupling DSLR cameras and video cameras to telescopes using eyepiece projection to film celestial objects. I am familiar with camera focus issues in low light, lens flares caused by the sun, moon, and artificial light sources. To recognize out of focus celestial objects, I and have intentionally observed and filmed celestial objects that are out of focus. I am very familiar with aircraft flying both at night and during the day. I am familiar with aircraft landing lights and marker lights. From 2011 to 2015 I investigated claims of geoengineering taking place in our skies including claims of aerosols, aka Chemtrails, being released/sprayed by jet aircraft. As a result of my geoengineering investigations, I have over 100 hours of archived video taken of jet aircraft during the day and at night.

I attempted to contact the witness numerous times since 11/15/2018 as I had a list of questions regarding his statements and the submitted visual evidence. The witness never replied to my questions but based on the visual evidence alone I can identify the objects and video/photo anomalies bringing this investigation to a conclusion.

The witness stated, in essence, he was photographing classified cabal planes and asking the aliens to reveal themselves. He then videoed what he described as their menacing green plane, and the aliens decided to show themselves appearing out of nowhere then immediately vanishing.

Let me explain what the witness is referring to when he states cabal planes, menacing green planes, and his belief they are aliens. Back in 2011 I investigated this subject and am very familiar with these beliefs. There is a small sect of people who firmly believe aliens are piloting flying saucers disguised as jet aircraft and are spray toxic chemicals (aka chemtrails) in the earth’s atmosphere. They believe these so-called chem jets; cabal planes are holograms projected by alien flying saucers to conceal their diabolical plan to terraform the planet to sustain alien life. If one searches YouTube or an internet search, there are thousands of examples of this cult-like belief system. At best, this belief would make a poor “B” rated Hollywood movie.

Searching the archives of Stellarium, (a planetarium software that shows exactly what you see when you look up at the stars), I was able to view exactly what celestial objects were visible to the witness in his night sky from his location in Porter, TX on 08/23/2018 at 9:00 pm. The moon phase was a waxing gibbous illuminated at 93% that would account for the lens flares in one of the witness’ photos.

Analysis of Witness’ Visual Evidence

Refer to photos and video 1-5 under the evidence heading.

#1, jpg photo. Keep in mind the witness never responded to my questions, but the picture and video are self-explanatory rendering my conclusions. In the top left portion of this photo is an overexposed photo of the moon. The shape of the overexposed moon matches the waxing gibbous moon, 93% illuminated on the night of 08/23/2018 at 9:00 pm. In the lower right portion of the photo are two lens flares. Based on my experience these are lens flares are common when photographing an illuminated moon.

#2, three-second mp4 video clip. This video clip shows nothing but lens flares from an external light source, most likely a red laser pointer or flashlight with a red lens. It is obvious that the video recording device was mounted on a tripod or sitting on a stationary object. It is also obvious that someone was manipulating a laser or flashlight in an up and down motion directed in the vicinity of the camera lens to cause the lens flares captured by the camera. It’s also important to note while taking video at night, the shutter speed of the cameras will be slowed down using automatic settings. This slow shutter speed is the reason we see the squiggly red lens flare dancing around in this video footage. In my professional opinion, this was done intentionally to bring about deception.

#3, three-second mp4 video clip. As an amateur astronomer, I can state exactly what is depicted in this video clip. I can not state the name of the star, but it is, in fact, a star. It is obvious to me that the witness pointed his camera on a bright star the rotated the camera in a clockwise circular motion that gave the star the false illusion that it was moving. Also, due to the motion of the camera, the star went in and out of focus. Again, in my professional opinion, this was done intentionally to bring about deception.

#4, jpg photo. Photo of a jet aircraft with it’s landing lights turned on. The witness stated he was photographing aircraft or what he termed as a cabal plane.

#5, Three-second mp4 video. Distorted video footage of a jet aircraft with it’s landing lights turned on. The witness moving/giggling the camera, along with the slow shutter speed of the camera at night, distorted the image of the jet and it’s landing lights.

Conclusion

Based on my years of experience filming the sky as an amateur astronomer, photographer/ videographer, along with my knowledge of cameras, I can recognize deceptive manipulation in visual evidence submitted by a witness. There was no need for this witness to answer my questions. Answering questions would only be additional evidence of a hoax. I believe the witness intentionally submitted this hoax for reasons known only by him. I don’t even believe the witness believes his implications that these jet aircraft are alien flying saucers in disguise. While I find these fake UFO reports frustrating, I am glad the witness submitted this hoax to TBV Investigations. There is a valuable benefit to these fake UFO reports. Investigations like this can be a benefit to other investigators and valuable archival reference data for future investigations.

My conclusion: Camera manipulation using an artificial light source (flashlight or laser pointer) at night with a slow camera shutter speed to create squiggly lens flares in video footage. Overexposed moon photo with lens flares. Intentional camera manipulation rendering an out of focus star to fake a UFO. And to top it off, an IMPLIED TALL-TALE of alien flying saucers disguising themselves as jet aircraft spraying toxic chemicals in our atmosphere to terraform the planet and take over the earth. Now that’s what I call a WHOPPER…

Using just the video evidence and no further contact with the witness since initial report submission, I will attempt to identify what the witnesses observed based on the following facts along with the witness statement.

The footage provided makes it difficult to ascertain direction, height, speed or reference for scale. 

My first approach was to scan the metadata contained within the video, all seems ok and intact.

The video shows a cluster of white and red lights with a flashing sequence. In my opinion they closely resemble aircraft lights and if you listen carefully you can hear some aircraft engine noise. The light formation and flashing sequence indicate landing / takeoff lights.

Google Maps was used to locate the witness sighting position, and to search the local area for airports.

Conclusion

Based on the witness description and video evidence, I am inclined to say this is likely an aircraft either in approach to land or climbing after takeoff from one of the airports around Springfield, Ohio.

The following case file report was written by TBV Investigations’ researcher Jim Kerr.

On October 28^th, 2018, at approx 4:23 am, Esteban Zavala posted a live video to Instagram showing what he stated to be 5 UFO’s hovering over the city of Rosarito, Baja California. It was a foggy early morning in Rosarita with multiple illuminated objects that appeared to be hovering approx 100 ft above the ground. Later that day Zavala posted the same Instagram video titled, “UFO’s Hovering in Rosarito 2018”, to his YouTube channel named Esteban Zavala, (refer to the link below under credits). Within hours, Zavala’s video footage went viral worldwide across the internet, re-posted on UFO YouTube channels, UFO Blogs, Facebook, Twitter and more.

On November 6, 2018, John Greenewald, creator of “The Black Vault,” shared with his team of UFO Investigators an article titled, “One of the best UFO sightings filmed lately” which included Zavala’s video footage. We all viewed the video and came to the unanimous conclusion that what Zavala videoed were in fact street lights.

Even though the objects in Zavala’s video had already been solved and determined as street lights, we at TBV Investigations are publishing this information not only to educate the public but for necessary archival reference material.  Our report is important documentation regarding how easy one can mistake street lights in foggy weather conditions for Flying Saucers, especially newly designed and installed circular LED street lights.

Witness Zavala’s written statement from his YouTube Channel.

“Today October 28, 2018, I witness 5 UFOs hovering over Rosarito, Baja California MX. At around 4:23 am I was driving back to San Diego, California with my grandmother. We were having a normal conversation when she suddenly went mute and all she could do was point at the sky. I look up and see 5 of these things hovering over homes and the beach. I pulled over and immediately went live on Instagram to avoid speculations of video editing and such. Share your thoughts.”

Investigative journalist, Ales Backman, is credited for determining these alleged Flying Saucers were new circular LED street lights recently installed for illuminating a recently constructed highway interchange along highway 1D.

Backman drove to Rosarito and videoed the location of the lights.

Conclusion

After watching Zavala’s complete unedited video on his YouTube Channel, I truly believe he and his mother believed they witnessed multiple UFO’s over the town of Rosarito, Baja California. It is important to note that they were not traveling on the main highway 1D but a side road in foggy weather conditions. Had they been driving along highway 1D, I believe they would have seen that the lights were in fact highway lights.

I find it very sad that so many so-called UFO researchers and individuals on social media capitalized and exploited this video footage claiming the objects were real Flying Saucers. The aforementioned is a real problem in Ufology today and casts s a bad light on legitimate researchers. It is our goal at TBV Investigations to inform and educate the public and to reduce the exploitation of misidentified UFO sightings.

It then went East 85’0 into a cloud? But there were no clouds SW when I first saw the object it was very clear in that area and a few stars out. I must say I was very shocked and disappointed that it didn’t reappear. My husband was working away and there was only me in the house, I don’t know if anyone else in our area saw anything? I have created 2 images based on the witness’s testimony, (created using the multiple email replies above) that lead up to the ‘start’ of the video footage recorded by the witness. Please note that the video does not contain stars in contrast to visuals.

Stellarium was used for the night sky around the Chesterfield area on 07/29/2018 11:00 PM

There were satellite trajectories in the witness’s field of view, however its difficult to confirm whether they were visible to the naked eye at that time.

I checked the meta data in the video file and noticed the creation date was 20/09/2018 at 18:33 and not 07/29/2018 11:00 PM

Weather at time of sighting sourced from Time and Date 07/29/2018 11:00 PM 

Google maps revealed 3 airports close by.

Conclusion

Based on the witness description and video, without further sufficient evidence I am unable to make a solid conclusion. Looking at the witness’s video it’s difficult to determine the movement of the light and the movement caused by the witness. Therefore I speculate this is most likely a commercial aircraft, however unable to determine.

“On the night of May 30th, 2018, I was driving home from the gym with my wife and we saw a bright light in the sky that initially we thought was the moon. It was really far away and very high in the sky. We then saw the object coming closer at a fast rate of speed and was rapidly descending. It was big and definitely was not a plane. The size, speed, and flight path of the object also made it highly unlikely to be a drone. It was big and was really fast. We then realized it was not the moon. It had three very bright flashing lights. my wife got out her phone and tried to record it. As she started to record, it disappeared and went dark. A few seconds later it reappeared and that is where our video picks up. It changed flight patterns a few times and then sped off behind us and out of sight. There was a car behind us, so I was unable to turn around and follow it. The lights were very bright and it seemed to hover a few times before it sped off. I will attempt to identify what the witnesses observed based on the following facts along with witness statements. (including video) I created a visual representation based on the witness’ testimony.

Based on the video evidence it is difficult to make a clear assesment on what the lights are. 

My first approach was to scan the metadata contained within the video which contradicts the date and time of the sighting.  Perhaps the cell phone was incorrectly setup or time zone related, but it is something that needs to be pointed out.

1) The footage provided makes it difficult to ascertain direction, height, speed or reference for scale.

2) I researched the local area around route 355 and discovered a number of gyms as the witness mentioned they were returning from one (but which one?) I have indicated on the map route 355 which the witnessed traveled along but its unknown at which position along route 355 the witness was.

3) I researched the local area around route 355 and discovered a number of airports and have indicated on the map route 355 in relation to surrounding airports.

4) The 3 lights visible in the video appear to resemble taxi or landing lights possibly from Boeing 7777 or aircraft that have that particular configuration. Original image sourced from metabunk.org on this similar topic of light clusters.

Researching Stellarium for known celestial objects on 30-05-2018 @ 22:00 revealed multiple celestial objects in the sky, however it would be difficult to speculate what was visible by eye at that time due to the weather and other atmospheric conditions during the sighting.

Conclusion

The video was recorded on July 29th, 2018, at 1.08 AM. 

In the beginning of the video you can see a zoomed in image of the moon. The clear details of the moon show that it was obviously a high powered camera with an adequate zoom lens. As mentioned by the witness, the specs of the camera are as follows:

-Sky-Watcher Maksutov SkyMax 127/1500 OTA
-T2 ring
-Pentax HD DA AF 1.4x rear converter
-Pentax K-70

You can clearly see all the craters and detailed lining of the moon showing a good camera focus. At about 2:52 (of the “original” video) you can see a dark object cross in front of the moon. Taking the zoom into consideration, it appears that the anomaly is flying at a high altitude. If these were bugs, birds or bats flying much lower to the ground, most likely they would be out of focus and not appear in the video, or if they do, be largely out of focus given the focal length of the lens in conjunction with the clarity of the moon.  Objects nearer to the lens would largely be invisible or drastically out of focus.

The height is very hard to determine, since there are no reference objects in the frame, other than the moon. We know the moon is 252,088 miles away from Earth, but to properly give some kind of calculation, another “reference object” needs to be in the frame to compare. Since there is none, it is highly speculative to try and pinpoint an exact altitude.

Later in the video at about 3:10 a greater wave of objects pass through the same view. I was able to count at least 38 objects in total. The objects seem to travel at a relatively fast speed. Judging by the speed the earth is rotating (1600km/hr) and the way the moon moves across the screen I would have to say the anomalies are traveling faster than any commercial jet plane (about 740-930 kph or 500 knots) in my best estimation.

This case was reviewed by other investigators and their opinions vary on what the objects might be.  However, everyone, including myself, is in agreement that there is no evidence in the raw video that it has been tampered with, manipulated or is a CGI hoax.

“I am not only an amateur astronomer but a ufologist as well. Since approx 2011, I have followed and researched videos and photos of unidentified objects traversing the moon. There are many good examples on the internet, but there are also those that are migrating flocks of birds. In all the footage I have analyzed, I have never seen the large number of objects as depicted in TBV case # 257854.

On 08-08-2018 I downloaded the video from case # 257854 to Sony Vegas video editing software. In this edited version, I shortened the length of the video. There is no sound in this edited version as I didn’t want to voice my opinions in the video. There are repeating clips with several different video effects along with cropped footage in an attempt to identify these objects. I sent the video to John Greenewald for distribution to the assigned investigators.

Keep in mind; this footage is not in sharp focus which is no fault of the camera or operator. Due to the earth atmosphere, video footage and objects will appear to slightly shift, morphing, pulsate and slightly go in and out of focus. With that said, the objects also appear slightly out of focus appearing to change shape slightly and morph in size. Is this because these objects were close to the lunar surface or outside earth’s atmosphere at an unknown distance from the moon? That, of course, is a possibility but let’s talk about the flight characteristics of these objects. Some of the objects are traveling faster and slower than others. Also, some change course slightly coming closer to one another.

In my opinion, these objects are a flock of migratory birds, but of course, I could be wrong. From what I have observed even with these objects being slightly out of focus, they behave like migratory birds. My recommendation to investigators is, research the geographical location of this sighting for migratory bird activity along with their flight characteristics.”

The bird theory is addressed in detail below.

Possible Explanations

I followed Mr. Kerr’s advice and I was able to find flocks of one kind of bird that does migrate in the area of Rome which are the Starlings, however their pattern of flight does not seem to mirror that of the video. If you look at starlings’ migration pattern they actually form a giant cloud in the sky and they travel in the hundreds, not in just a few like depicted in the video.

Another migratory bird of the region is the Honey Buzzard. Here is a video of a migration of the Honey Buzzard, also not even close to resembling the anomaly movements, density, number of “birds” etc.

The movement of the objects seem to not mimic the flight of birds when comparing to other videos of bird migrations, not only those above, but other videos found online.  There are also very few birds that can get tens of thousand of feet into the air.  Given the detail on the moon and the size within the frame, if these were birds, they would have to be at a very high altitude to move that slow within the video. If they were fairly low to the ground, even for migratory birds, they would likely be seen going very fast through the video, and caught on very few frames of video.  These appear to be very high, but the exact altitude can not be determined.  In addition, birds migrate in much larger numbers, and even if only a small “group” of the larger migratory group was capture in front of the moon, the density of the birds do not match migratory patterns by most birds referenced for the region. 

I would assume that the anomalies shown on the video are most likely not birds of any kind, at least, any birds that I could find. Any additional feedback from Italian/European bird experts is welcomed.

Based on the evidence, a flock of birds seems unlikely at this time.

Bats Flying In Front of Moon

You can see with this video, when objects (in this case bats) are much lower to the camera, they go through the frame very quickly. One example above is at 0:46 of the video, and it is very quick as the bat flies by. Another occurs at approximately 1:32. 

Based on the evidence, bats flying across the frame seems unlikely.

Satellites Flying By

This is probably the closest match to the anomalies caught above. However, there are key differences.  First, the anomalies above seemingly do not move in a straight line, and seem to even interact with each other.  Satellites will traverse across a camera’s field of view in a straight or slightly curved line, but do not change speed or adjust course.  In addition, investigator Jim Kerr assisted me in checking Stellarium to see if there were any satellites in the area that were possibly captured by the witness’ camera, and there were not.  When I asked him to verify what was in the sky, he said:

“A search of Stellarium (equatorial view) showed nothing unusual with the moon from a view point in Rome, Italy on July 29, 2018 @ 1:08am. No satellites or asteroids were noted crossing the moon at that time.”

Balloons Caught on Video

There is a possibility that the objects could be balloons, but it is fairly unlikely. Given the assumed high altitude, for so many “toy” balloons (standard helium filled party balloons) to be released from the surface of Earth from a party or major event, and for them to reach such heights and maintain a relative “formation” by sticking together, is too coincidental. In addition, there is a case where a larger “Google Balloon” was captured by an amateur astronomer while photographing the moon. Although it is hard to discern the movement from the photograph, you can see that it does not appear to be a similar type object. In addition, weather balloon or “Google Balloons” never are launched together in such a quantity, so I think a type of weather balloon (or Google Balloon) is safely ruled out.

To make it slightly more complicated, the site Metabunk.org, after lengthy discussion going back and forth between balloons and birds, settled on balloons. Metabunk user “deirdre” posted the following video, attempting to show similarities between the “flickering” in the above “UFO Video” as compared to this low resolution “balloon video.”

What is a bit misleading, is the “flickering” compared in the “balloon video” is a very low resolution compared to the “UFO video” which exists in high definition. To compare characteristics from such a low resolution video to one in high definition, is not conclusive in the slightest. In fact, it is a stretch to compare the two given not only the resolution differences of the videos themselves, but the focal length of the lens, the type of camera used (which in the “balloon video” is unknown), etc.  To conclusively say this is “proof” is a far stretch, given the fact that this “flickering” is also shown as a characteristic of multiple satellite videos found on YouTube and above in this case file. If the flickering (or as the Metabunk user said appeared to be a “flapping”) is a characteristic in balloon videos, satellite videos, this UFO video etc., then we can not conclusively identify the UFOs as balloons. That is disregarding other evidence that exists. 

As posted on Metabunk, the final ‘formula’ to calculate and “prove” the balloon theory was contributed by Robert Scheaffer. He stated:

“See if this sounds right: based upon my own measurements of the dark objects on my screen, and assuming that the diameter of the lunar disc is 30′, then each of the objects is approx 9″ of arc. This is .156′, or .0026 deg, whose tangent is 4.53 E-5. Assuming an object size of 200mm (a typical balloon), its distance from the camera would then be about 4.4 km. Since the moon was at 29 deg altitude, whose sin is .48, the altitude of the objects above the ground would be about 2.13 km.”

Although no one responded to this post after it was posted (it has now been more than a month and this remains the last post as of the writing of this update), Mr. Scheaffer felt this was a solid conclusion. With no other Metabunk user responses, it appears this is the theory they settled on. 

TBV Investigations’ consultant Joseph Miller responded to the claim:

“That math is fine. He assumed a small balloon (<8”) and measured a slightly larger angular size than me. Couple thoughts:

Balloons should expand at high altitudes, so these balloons must have been even smaller when released. Also I calculate < 3.5 grams per balloon to be buoyant at that height. So they’d have to be pretty light (small party balloons rather than underinflated large balloons?) Are these common?

The 2.1 km altitude makes a small ~65 meter cluster of not-very-buoyant balloons seem unlikely. This is only ~3% of separation in the direction of movement relative to their height. Were thousands of balloons released and we happened to see a small random clump? Air pressure gradients funneled these balloons into a narrow corridor?

If he instead considers larger balloons/distances this theory has slightly more trouble. The likelihood that a cluster of objects impacted by random forces would remain within a few % of each other is lower the bigger the scale is.

Definitely possible, but IMHO needs some explanations/examples before I buy any particular theory.”

Based on the evidence, balloons seem unlikely.

Digital Manipulation

Many of us all considered a hoax, but there is no sign or evidence of any digital manipulation. TBV Investigations’ Paul Wright also looked at the video, and sees exact characteristics when he views the moon through his high powered lens, including the “hazing” effect around it. He extracted the “meta data” of the video, and everything matches what the witness reported, in regards to the technical specs of the camera. It also appears to be the raw file, and not edited.

Conclusion

I do not believe this is some kind of bird migration, and although there are similarities to satellites crossing the sky, Stellarium does rule out such an explanation.  Balloons are also highly unlikely and we find no evidence of a hoax or digital manipulation. Therefore, I rule out all plausible explanations at this time, with no other reasonable explanation to explore.  

For now, I would close this case and I will classify it as Unidentified, however, I am always open to feedback or other angles to explore.

“While flying back from [Las Vegas], heading due east toward Indianapolis I was taking a video of [lightning]below. When I watched the video, I noticed a rectangular object flying by, turning from a bright white to a mild green color and made a noise going by. This was somewhere over western Indiana. At 40,000 feet altitude, I have no idea what this might be. Note: The video shows the object going up, but in reality it is going from left to right.”

Witness Pat Alles’ statement contained helpful pieces of data relevant to this investigation and included video of the reported event. 

The witness reported that they were traveling on Southwest flight from Las Vegas, NV to Indianapolis, IN. Based on the provided information, I believe this is the flight the witness was on, noted below. The flight departed McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, Nevada on June 11, 2018 at 8:01pm local time. The flight landed at Indianapolis International Airport in Indianapolis, Indiana on June 12, 2018 at 2:21am local time. The witness’ approximation of June 12, 2018 at 1:00am appears feasible, and any time discrepancy may be accounted for due to time zone changes.

It seems likely that a potential event over “Western Indiana,” as the witness reported, would have occurred between 1:00am and 2:00am EDT on June 12, 2018 due to the flight path of the aircraft noted above. 

Weather is frequently a factor in witnessing an unexplained aerial event. The witness reported recording lightning in the clouds below the plane. This lightning is viewable in the provided video. As you will note from the weather history below, it does appear that there were clouds and rain over Indianapolis in the early morning hours of June 12, 2018. 

Despite the weather being unfavorable for viewing aerial phenomena from the ground, I conducted a search at the National UFO Reporting Center website for reports in the evening hours of June 11th and the early morning hours of June 12th near the State of Indiana. Reports for the month of June 2018 can be viewed here: http://www.nuforc.org/webreports/ndxe201806.html

There is only one report with information matching the date and location mentioned by the witness.

The event reported to the “National UFO Reporting Center” lists the date and time as “approximate.” As such, I do not know if these are related sightings. They seem to describe different events. 

Video Analysis

The video provided by the witness is 10 seconds in length. In the first few seconds, there is what appears to be flashes of light that were confirmed by the witness to be lightning in the clouds below. The object in question appears in the video around the 3-second mark. It appears to travel from the lower left to the upper right portion of the screen. I slowed down the anomaly and captured the 17 frames where the anomaly is visible. I created an animated .gif with these 17 frames, as seen below. I put a red line diagonally through the screen to accentuate the fact that the anomaly is not going in a straight line. Around Frame 03 and 04, the object appears to flutter or float closer to the red line, then again moves away from it. 

Although not conclusive, it seems unlikely that a potential UFO flying at high speed would flutter or float. This information may indicate that the light colored anomaly is a piece of debris in the air outside the airplane illuminated by cabin lights, or possibly a reflection of something inside the cabin onto the multi-paned window of the airplane. Further, I believe the light colored anomaly is out of focus because the witness was recording lightning far below and the debris flew close to the window or was a reflection fairly close to the window. If the camera were focused far below, something close to the lens would appear out of focus, and the lens would not have had time to focus before it was out of view.

And a screen shot, possibly indicated an arm illuminated by a smart watch / Apple Watch? This is not conclusive, but one possibility. 

Increasing the brightness also reveals the witness did not have the camera lens flush with the window, which opens up the large possibility the light was a reflection from within the cabin. The light source in the following freeze frame is the lightning, and the cut off to the left and the arrows indicate the edge of the window, which allows a lot of ‘room’ for reflections to take place on the window pane and reflect back into the camera offering an illusion of an object outside the plane, like a UFO. 

The witness also indicated that the visual anomaly was accompanied by a strange sound, a sound that the witness attributed to the possible UFO.

After some editing, I was able to reduce some of the background noise created by the plane’s engine. The visualization of the EDITED audio is as follows.

The visualization of the edited audio above is consistent with human voice patterns. Additionally, both myself and the witness agreed that the edited audio sounds like a human female voice. The witness and myself also discussed how the recording device was inside the plane. If the sound had originated from outside the plane, it should have been audible to everyone inside the plane if it were loud enough to be recorded. The witness reported that they did not hear anything at the time of the recording nor did anyone inside the plane appear to investigate a strange sound or mention it verbally.

Conclusions

While recording lightning below their commercial flight over Indiana, witness Pat Alles recorded a light colored visual anomaly and accompanying audio. Upon investigating, the reported date, time, and location appear to be correct based on developed flight information. 

Upon analyzing the visual and audio portions of the provided video, several items were noted. I do not have any reason to believe that the video has been falsified or tampered with in any meaningful way. It may have been cropped from a longer video, but this does not affect this investigation. Based on the fluttering behavior of the light colored anomaly and it being out of focus, I believe it is a piece of debris outside the plane’s window. After editing the video to reduce some of the plane’s engine noise, the audio accompanying the video appears to be that of a human female voice. 

It seems likely that this is not a UFO and is explainable.

“I became interested in orbs after one showed up in a picture I took of my daughter on her 5th birthday. I began taking video at night (after kids in bed ) in our woods & saw a lot of activity. One night I was drawn to the river, so I sat down, began a video & saw this small light about 20 ft in front of me above the water.. as I went to stand up and began walking, it was suddenly right in front of me! It was tiny & the only way I can describe it, is ‘other dimensional’ it was almost like you couldn’t quite focus in on it & it was amazing. It was very playful, almost felt familiar? I was able to record it so I know i’m not crazy! I saw the same thing on several occasions. Probably 3-4xs each year for 2 years. Always in the late summer & fall I believe. I’ll attach a few videos. You can see it change colors & I put my hand around it to make sure it isn’t a cobweb reflecting the light from the camera. Whatever it was, it was definitelt INTELLIGENT as it was trying to communicate / interact with me in a playful manner. I came across Damien’s story on Australian Lights & thought ‘finally – this is pretty similar to what I’ve seen’… only his ars in the clouds and not so close like mine. I’ve never met or discovered anyone that had had this same experience & have been seeking information for a very long time now. The Analysis by Jim Kerr, TBV Investigations

I have a background in amateur astronomy, using a number of different types of telescopes and astronomical cameras. Since 1965 I have have had a passion for film photography, 8mm and 16mm motion picture film continuing to present day with professional DSLR cameras, lenses, and camcorders both consumer and pro engineering. I am experienced with lighting and the causes of lens flares that occur with different focal length and types of lenses. 

Since 2011 I have had an interest in the paranormal relating to orb sightings. In 2015, I assisted a MUFON investigator in New Jersey on several orb related cases he was working on. I provided him photos relating to strange blue orbs that had dots inside the orb. In reality the blue orbs were lens flares common to certain brands of cell phone cameras. 

While I have not spoken directly to the witness due to missed telephone calls and no response to questions from my last email, there is enough data in the witness videos and photos to resolve this case. 

The witness lives in the town of Alto, Michigan. Alto is an unincorporated community in Bowne Township, Kent County, in the U.S. state of Michigan. The terrain has forest areas, (wooded areas), sparsely located within the borders of Alto. The elevation is approx 1,072 feet above sea level. From any location within Alto it would be a short walk to any wooded area.

Celestial Objects Rendering a Significant Light Source

Searching Stallerium, (a planetarium software that shows exactly what you see when you look up at the stars), I was able to go back in the archives to view the night sky over Alto, MI on 11/15/2017 @ 1:00 am. There were no extremely bright celestial objects in the sky. The moon was a waning crescent that rose in the sky at 5:29 am and set at 5:18 pm.

Analysis of Video Footage

I downloaded both videos to my Sony Vegas video editing software for a detailed analysis of the footage. I was able to view sections of the video frame by frame, adjust lighting and contrast to bring out details in an effort to reveal the possible origin of the orbs.

In the video titled “Friendly Orb”, it is obvious in my analyzed video that the orb in reality is a reflective object attached to a spider web, a balled up clump of spider web or light reflection off the web itself. Other webs are also observed in the footage. The video was filmed in or near a wooded area with vegetation and home to spiders. The object was being illuminated by the video recording device light or flashlight. Reflective areas on a web is a common mistake made by individuals hunting for orbs. As the camera moves it will cause the reflective area to move as well making it appear as though there is a object / orb moving or floating in thin air. With the naked eye one may or may not see anything attached to the web.

The second video sent to TBV Investigations designated, (received_10155980884127518), is a edited shortened version of a video posted on the witnesses YouTube channel titled, (Friendly orb visiting I can actually SEE with my eyes). In my investigation I visited the witnesses YouTube channel to make sure TBV Investigations was receiving the complete unedited video of these events. With the video we received, important footage was missing that led me to identifying the source of this alleged orb. With out any doubt, in reality, the orb is a lens flare caused by a outdoor floodlight mounted on the eve of the building or house to the left of the video recording device. This can clearly be seen at time stamp 1:32 in the video posted to the witnesses YouTube channel. I downloaded the full video but there is no reason to analyze the footage in Sony Vegas. Also the YouTube download has tracking information on the screen for copyright purposes. Additionally, there is no way the witness could have seen this lens flare with the naked eye.

Conclusion

My intention in this investigation is not to upset the witness or anyone who hunts for orbs. I believe the witness is sincere and not attempting any deception. My conclusions are based on the video evidence along with years of experience operating cameras in various lighting conditions. Also observing lens flares and anomalies in my own videos, photographs and other peoples work. My hope is for those who view this investigation take the time to educate themselves on camera operation, what causes lens flares and other anomalies and the effects of lighting in a given situation. There is much information on this topic available on the internet.

In the first video the alleged orb is either a reflective object stuck on a spider web, a balled up clump of spider web or a reflection off the web itself caused by the light from the witnesses video recording device. The spider web can clearly be seen in my video analysis and the witnesses original footage. The second video the witness provided TBV Investigations is a edited version of her video, cropped and shortened in length. Upon further investigation I found the complete unedited version of the video on her YouTube channel. This unedited video showed the light source that caused the lens flare in both versions of the videos. It was the light source, (floodlight) that caused the lens flare.

Additionally, the witness reported the date of these sightings as 11/15/2017 1:00 am however, both her videos on her YouTube channel are dated 12/09/2016 and 10/19/2017 respectively. This fact would make the weather conditions in this investigation void. This fact does not affect the analysis or conclusions of this investigation as the video evidence speaks for itself. 

Based on the video evidence this investigation is solved.

“This was caught traveling on Highway 349 in Midland going 60mph on the way to our friends house. I held my phone out the passenger side window and recorded the dark sky out to the right of me. The end of this video I have no explanation for. I was of course attempting to catch one, whether they allowed me to in this video seems quite likely to me. The triangle has an arm attached that does a wave and then a circular craft follows it. I almost deleted this video- good thing I did not. This is not photoshopped at all. I have several other videos and photos as well that I would like to report and discuss. They have been sent into MUFON but something strange occurred and I was switched to a new investigator who does not believe me and does not want to help me. Please let me know if you can discuss this with me and my other photos or where I could contact someone that can. Taken on an iPhone X.”

The Analysis

The initial step was to add a brightness/contrast F/X to the video. The image was brightened, with the contrast staying about equal in value. Then, to confirm the findings a shadows/highlights, F/X was applied. These settings were adjusted in various ways, and the image became discernible. 

The filtered video is below. 

This is one of the easier videos to unravel because it IS so dark. There is data in every image, even if you can’t see it on the monitor or the screen. The method employed here was to simply import the video into Adobe Premiere and run some filters and adjustments.

Still image of the “UFO” is below showing that the object is inside the car, not outside the window:

Conclusion

The anomaly turns out to be the motion of the videographer moving their iPhone X from the window to their lap. The “triangle” turns out to be the negative space between the two fronts seats of a moving vehicle, with the front wind shield creating a triangular lighting effect. Objects can be seen out the wind shield as well, confirming the angle of view.

“White orb flying around then disappears”

The Analysis

The video was run through Adobe Premiere, wherein I checked for verification of a solid, real object in inverted mode, and with levels and contrast adjustments.

The object can be seen coming across the sky, touching the edge of the Flying J sign, and then reappearing moments later on the other side.

The witness was contacted, but no further reply was received. There is a regional airport in the exact direction of the sighting, however, no flight records could be cross reference at the time of this report.  The map of this location, with the approximate witness location, is marked:

I matched the Google Street View location, where the witness was approximately standing:

The same directional orientation is maintained with the following image, displaying the location of the nearby airport. Although the object does not appear from be going to the airport, it could be an indicator of the source of where this craft came from, or will eventually end up. 

It is also possible that the object is a satellite, however, an EXACT match was not possible to match up, since the witness supplied very little information. 

The object goes in and out of focus several times, and seems to disappear at the end of the video after going well out of focus by the camera.  

One concern is that the object seems to disappear all at once, rather than by degrees, before it goes behind the gas station sign.  This could be due to a frame rate issue of the cell phone camera or compression artifact when the video was exported, and the frames indicating the gradual disappearance behind the sign were dropped, therefore displaying as an immediate disappearance rather than a gradual one. 

Conclusion

The sighting is most likely air traffic, with the aircraft going out of focus or behind clouds at the end of the video. Without more testimony from the eyewitness the case must remain unknown. The aircraft shows no other signs of aberrant behavior while it is observed.

A video was submitted showing several objects swirling around an exterior security camera.

The witness stated in their original submission, “This thing or object makes a U-Turn in the Sky, then descents thru the clouds!”

This can be inferred from the video, but is more speculation than what the video shows. The object appears to rise, than come back down. Not enough contrast in the video makes it impossible to discern the nature of the object. The witness was contacted and asked for additional footage of the same camera views during daylight to determine what structures are in that direction.

To date, there has been no response or communication from the witness, and the object remains unidentified, but lacks sufficient evidence or any follow up from the witness.

Conclusion

As seen in the video, the object is little more than a white dot that rises, and makes a turn in the sky.

In still 6 the object seems to appear again at the bottom of the frame, at the very end of the video.

The quality of the video has been enhanced as much as possible, but the terrain, the object, and the sky cannot be discerned definitively. At this time the object is not identifiable, but likely not anything out of the ordinary, until further evidence (or testimony) is presented.

I was able to communicate with the witness via email multiple times she was very cooperative when requesting additional info. 

This video was filmed using a cell phone with MP4 1080p capabilities with an average Bitrate of 13.1Mbps and as per the witness; it is at “max zoom” at x10. 

The video was analyzed frame by frame and at slower speeds through windows video editor and Android video shop; however, the video is pretty shaky and grainy making it challenging to examine. 

There were no audible sounds apart from the witness speaking and after speaking with the witness, she did add that the object appeared to be traveling upwards.

In one of the frames about 00:01 sec in to the video, you can see the object the clearest seems like circular shape almost doughnut like. Here is a screen shot:

Conclusion

After carefully examining the video and speaking to the witness, I would conclude there is simply not enough tangible evidence to deem this case solved.

The video is not very stable and since it is zoomed all the way, it is a bit difficult to determine what the object really is. Close by to where this video was taken there is a NASA Airport test facility, and even though there were no test flights at the time of the video (that I could find) it could very well be a NASA drone. 

In brief, I determine this to be “Unidentified, Insufficient Evidence” as there is simply not enough evidence plus the fact that the NASA test facility is close by makes it difficult to determine if it indeed is something unidentified. Overall, despite the video being difficult to analyze, the case is quite compelling and definitely worthy of a conversation.

It will remain archived here in hopes another witness may come forward.

Video was run through Adobe Premiere to enlarge the object, and run filters.

Adjusted with INVERT and noticed a shadowy shape in front of and behind the object at 0:16:20 and :21, Object appears solid.

Adjusted with AUTO CONTRAST, adjusting the levels to Black Clip, 10%, and White clip .99%.

Found a lip, such as a roof soffit or gutter in the foreground which the unknown passes IN FRONT OF.

There are also artifacts at 0.:17:14 when the object is supposed to “disappear.”

Conclusion

Preliminary conclusion is that this is a water droplet, or snowflake, as it does appear to be snowing, which is passing over the lens of the camera.

The artifact is likely where the droplet crosses across oil or dirt on the lens.

Another indicator it is likely water is the shape changing of the blob frame by frame. The most likely conclusion is that the object is moisture on the lens of the camera.

“I was on my way to work, I was traveling east on rt 5 just entering Scotia, I saw at least 3 red lights atop one another in the sky, i thought maybe a satellite, but i thought it was too close, I pulled over to try to get it on my cell phone, because it was moving away and dark my phone didn’t really capture the image. I got back in my car and about 20 seconds further down the road I saw something light up in the sky. It looked like a big scoreboard all lit up and moving towards me. I pulled over and started to get a video. The size was big and lights all over, the shape was something I’ve never seen before. It glided right past me!!!! No noise from the craft at all. The design of it has me at a loss for words and I’m anxious to know what the hell was it! No military or airplane that is for sure! I reviewed my video and I believe because of the lights it doesn’t show what I exactly saw but I do have video. I’m trying to draw what I saw. I really need to speak to someone who can help me get a grip on this and go further into detail about this ship that I saw. I know it was below radar because it was that close! When I watch the video I hear strange sounds that I don’t know what made them. The only sound made was a few cars passing by and at time of sighting i did not hear anything at all.”

I spoke with the witness multiple times via phone, text, and email. I’ve analyzed the video at slower speeds and frame by frame. There are 4 objects visible in the video. The moon, an aircraft identifiable by its flashing/blinking navigation/collision lights, a tree in the right side of the video, and what I suspect to be lights from a home, or building in the distance of bottom of video.

This was later confirmed after receiving a daytime photo of the sighting location. The noise in the video not audible to the witness while shooting is most likely interference from the high voltage power lines seen in the daytime photo producing EMFs, Electro-magnetic frequencies.

The object in her sketch doesn’t resemble anything I’m familiar with, nor any typically reported object I’m aware of.

Conclusion

I found the witness to be a very credible witness with knowledge of typical civilian and military aircraft.  When only taking the video into consideration, it is very likely the object is an aircraft, or a drone, as the blinking lights, and the colors of them (seemingly alternating white and red) are indicative of an aircraft or drone.  However, her testimony and firsthand account of the object’s description, coupled with her knowledge about civilian and military aircraft, adds a different element to the case. 

Although her video does not contain evidence of the object she describes or sketches, I believe that she saw something she couldn’t identify.

Therefore, I feel I will label this case unexplained, with the caveat that it does lack sufficient evidence (a stabilized video with more detail) to properly identify the object, or to confirm it is truly an “unknown.” 

The witness stated additional, uncompressed videos, are being sent. To date, they have not been received.

The following case was submitted to The Black Vault / TBV Investigations on January 26, 2018.  It was assigned to team member Christopher Connelly for investigation.

Witnesses Testimony

UFO seen over Central Texas. This is a stop motion video I made by taking several long exposure photos of the sky and stitching them together in order.  My camera isn’t good enough in low light to capture a video, so this is the best I could do.

We saw it for 6 nights in a row, same location in the sky but moved slightly up each night. The lights were actually flashing a few different ways. Sometimes they would blink, sometimes they strobes, sometimes very bright, sometimes dim, etc.

No real pattern that I could see.

Same time each night adding about 20 minutes each night.

Checked every resource I know of to cross reference with satellite sightings and space station orbits and it didn’t match any.

It may have appeared more, but we got several days of cloud cover after that. Once the sky was clear again, we saw nothing.  This was about August 5th, 2017.

The Evidence

The Analysis

In this short video you are faced with the night sky, that takes the eyes a while to adjust to.

Once adjusted you are able to witness a small flashing light that pans across the line of sight in the video. No color changes noted. Direction is linear, with no changes. No sound can be heard in the video.

Conclusion

Unfortunately, I attempted to reach out to the original witness multiple times, through multiple outlets but with no return emails or messages.

With the evidence provided, I believe that the object in the video may be a satellite, based on the way that it moves and that directional pattern that it uses.

As stated in the analysis, there were no other pieces of evidence accompanying the video, such as sound or a witness statement.

Without additional contact with the witness, or an exact date (as it is noted the witness stated it was “about” August 5th, there is no way to cross reference satellite data or other information that may help identify the object.

Background

The following case was submitted to The Black Vault / TBV Investigations on December 29, 2017. 

The witness’ brother submitted the following:

“My brother filmed this UFO 12-17 in Detroit, Michigan at night at our uncle’s home, no airports nearby.

The UFO was yellowish in the center, circling around was yellowish in various colors moving like a jelly fish, but as he filmed this thing the circular UFO appeared white, and that field around the object broke up in box form as static, but its plain to see. 

It also made a right angle turn, then left before disappearing others witnessed it. I contacted local news fox2 here, no reply.”

The sighting occurred on the 4th, and the case was assigned to TBV Investigations’ researcher Dylan Santiso.

The Analysis

TBV Investigations received the original report from “Mike”, as he did not wish to disclose his identity in full.  After a calling Mike on January 4, 2018, it became apparent that Mike was reporting this case for his Brother, who we will refer to as “Hardy”.

I interviewed Hardy and asked for a better copy of the video that was submitted by his brother, Mike.   After numerous attempts to try to get a better quality and uncompressed version of the video, I was only able to obtain the following:

What I find interesting about the video is the first 3 seconds.  There seems to be two objects, one large and one small.  The small object jets away from the first one and is then out of the frame three seconds into the video.  Following, the object speeds up, then slows done at the 18 second mark, then seems to descend behind trees/buildings.

Witness Testimony/Interview

Harvey noted and answered questions regarding the before, after, and during recording periods:

1. What geographical location was the sighting at?: Palmer Park – Pontchatrain, and 6 mile Road, Detroit MI.
2. What direction was the witness facing at the time of sighting/recording?: Due East
3. What time of day was it?: Between 21:30 and 21:45 on December 17, 2017
4. What direction was the object flying?: East to also West
5. Did anyone else see the object?: Yes, there were “quite a few people filming on the street”, according to the witness. Also, people pulled over in their cars to view and film the object. Rough) 
6. What did you see before you started filming the object?: According to the witness, the object appeared to be a street light and was viewed by multiple people on Pontchtrain facing 6 mile road and eastward. The object was stationary, shot up, then down, then traveled toward the witness, slowly, in a westerly direction.
7. Style of Movement: Like a “jellyfish”. It had a “white membrane” with a point of orange light in the center.
8. Sound: None
9. Static Electricity: Phones seemed to be interrupted by some electric interference
10. Height: 1,000 ft.
11. The object was about 1/2 a mile away when filming occurred
12. Missing Time: No
13. Humming Noise or Feeling: No

Noted Airports in the vicinity: 

1. Coleman A Young International Airport (Due East of Witness)

It is important  to note that the witness felt that that this sighting was of “unexplained origin”.

Conclusion 

Unknown without better footage.  The video is highly pixelated and of poor quality.   However, the witness seemed honest, genuine, and lucid.

Background

The witness reported that while out observing and photographing the moon and several planets on November 4, 2016 at her home at approximately 7:20 pm, she noticed 2 bright red objects coming from the west in the southern sky.  Both objects were unwavering and flew in a controlled fashion while staying in a vertical position. The diameter of the objects appeared to be slightly larger than an aspirin held at arm’s length. Distance was hard to judge since the event to place with the sky as a backdrop. Due to the size of the objects, she assumed they were close.  Soon after, the witness noticed a large area of the sky in the same direction light up with multiple “flashing and blinking” lights, lasting several minutes. Part of the event captured on camera.

The event took place in Lewis Center, Ohio, approximately 20 miles north of Columbus and 12 miles from Port Columbus. Population 26,130, elevation 864’. The area in the direction of the sighting is mostly rural with small hills.

The temperature at the time was 51 degrees fahrenheit, the skies were clear, and the wind was north at 4 mph.

The website Stellarium showed the Moon, Venus, Mars, and Saturn all bright and visible in the south-southwestern sky. No satellites were visible.

The report was received over a year after the event took place. Searches were done by myself for correlating cases and other related reports that may have been shared, with nothing found. The witness is well educated, and as you will see in the following detailed report submitted by her, did an in-depth investigation herself before reporting it. She is an amateur astronomer and is well familiar with aircraft and their characteristics.

It is advised to watch the videos with lights off for more detail.

Witness Testimony

The following was submitted to TBV Investigations from the witness. It is published here unedited:

“The sighting, November 4, 2016, took place at approximately 7:22-7:26 pm EST to the south of my house. It began while I was standing in my back yard photographing astronomical objects. Thus, it was not some mistaken astronomical object as is often used to explain UFOs, because when it happened I was photographing Venus, Mars, Saturn, and the Moon and I labeled them on some of the photographs. I am an amateur astronomer, have worked professionally in photography, and because it was a clear night for good photography and several planets were visible at once, I had two cameras with me. The cameras were an iPhone 6s and a HiDef Camcorder that also records sound. I have made much wildlife, astronomical, and aircraft photography from this location and am very familiar with it. Everything I saw was against the sky, nothing was against background trees or anything.

The location is a family farm where I was born, lived for many years, gone out nearly every night after dark to check things, taken many photos and videos at this location, and have never seen anything like this.

It started when I was looking southwest at Venus and then saw two bright red glowing objects approaching from the west. They flew smoothly, were completely vertical in orientation to each other, were soundless, and there was no evidence of an airplane or aircraft lights. There were no strobe lights, green lights, sounds, or anything vaguely like an airplane. The object’s lights didn’t blink or change in intensity or brightness. The movements were in complete synchrony, and the objects looked exactly alike. From this first second of the sighting, I was mystified.

They approached Venus and because they stayed together so smoothly and completely, I thought they had to be connected. I watched for what would happen when they would pass Venus. They were in a position of one precisely above the other in a straight vertical line. When they went by Venus, it appeared that the top one was about a full Moon’s apparent diameter above Venus and the lower one about the same distance below Venus–the angular distance between the two was about a degree or more with Venus in the middle. They moved so synchronously that I expected them to be connected. Although I couldn’t see any connection, I thought they might be connected to each other by something thin in a barbell-like fashion.

But when they passed by Venus, I saw no dimming, so I didn’t know whether they could have been two objects moving in exact synchrony or whether they were like barbells and connected by a thin strand (that wouldn’t show up much when they flew past Venus). They didn’t even slightly sway in the wind and just moved smoothly and steadily together. They looked nothing like Chinese lanterns or any type of balloon.

They flew in a controlled fashion–they stayed in a vertical position. I don’t know how they flew–I didn’t hear engine noises, but they must have had some kind of power because they were red and glowing. I was amazed because they looked like something that couldn’t happen-like one would see in a cartoon or a computer simulation. Also because they took up such a large degree of arc, probably a degree or more, I thought they might have been close or of a huge object and expected a sound, but there was none. I don’t know their altitude, but they showed against the sky, not the background.

I had been taking photos of the planets with my iPhone in hand when I saw them. But I was so completely dumbfounded in amazement at first that I didn’t do anything except stand there frozen. When my brain finally re-activated, I realized I needed to take photos, so I took pictures–snapped three photos in very rapid succession at 7:22 EST each 5 seconds after the previous one. This was after the red objects had already passed. I think I didn’t see anything when I took these photos.

Then I noticed a huge area of the sky light up with all kinds of blinking, gyrating, dancing, flashing objects. This display took up a large area of the sky–maybe 20-30 degrees in width and height. It spread from the tree to my southeast to west of Venus, which was to my west.

Because the objects in this display were flashing and seemed to be moving around, I ran for the video camera to try to capture this motion. It took some time to run to the camcorder set it up, get it turned on in the dark, and wait for it to come on. It was mounted on a tripod. By the time, I had the camcorder going, most of the objects had flown behind a tree and a building to the east so I couldn’t see them. I thought the tail end of the objects was still there. I pointed the camcorder and tried to videotape the dancing objects. When I had seen them with my eyes they appeared to flash, move around–sometimes synchronously, blink, etc. All this was soundless. There seemed to have been a number of red and other objects that constantly changed configuration. These were definitely not like any standard aircraft lights. I took a 26-second video (although that doesn’t seem like much you can do a lot with it using a computer).

The size of this display of the group of objects was many, many times to large to be the lighting on an aircraft. A low aircraft (such as ones coming in for a landing at John Glenn Columbus International Airport–about 20 miles away) might to be about the apparent angular size of the Moon or smaller. The size of the Moon when compared to size of the display of the group of objects in the video images was very much smaller. Another estimation of the apparent size scale can be found at the end of a video. It shows the length of a car on the road in a wide-angle view. The car is approximately 0.13 mile away, but the length of the car is many times shorter than the display of the group of objects. If the group of objects had been the lighting on an airplane, the airplane would have been either tremendously large or so close it would be almost crashing into the camera.

There was nothing there that would cause a group of objects to appear. This is a large family farm area surrounded by agricultural fields with no one around. The neighbors are my relatives and I know what they are doing. I am very used to seeing airplanes, blimps, blimps with lighted sides, and all kinds of aircraft here and photographing them in the dark.

These objects seemed nothing like airplane lights or other commonly photographed objects. The sighting was nothing like viewing a drone–I have a drone, fly it, photograph with it, and repair it, so I am familiar with drones. The objects were nothing like lasers or flashlights, because these need something to reflect against to be seen (such as cats chasing a laser on a wall). What I saw were bodies against the sky. It was nothing like fireworks. I have recorded fireworks from this general position using this camera and they look nothing like this. This was nothing like Chinese lanterns–several Chinese lanterns have landed in the field I filmed in and I have them. They weren’t birds, because some glowed red, they blinked on and off, there was no wing motion, and birds don’t light up at night. I saw no green lights at all any time during the sighting and it is standard for aircraft to have green lights. I read that all aircraft built after March 1996 must have an anti-collision light system (strobe lights) turned on for all flight activities in poor visibility. There was no continuous track of strobe lights as is seen with an aircraft–just white flashes at random all over the sky. In addition, aircraft show a patterned sequence of flashing their lights and there was no form of pattern with these object’s blinking.

The white flashing objects were nothing like stars. When one looks at the sky, one can see stars and they often twinkle. But they do not completely disappear, and new stars do not appear in different places as they did in the video. The stars and planets have stable locations. Thus, the phenomenon wasn’t photographs of stars or twinkling. Both cameras can photograph stars at night. Also I have seen meteor showers and northern lights and this sighting resembled neither. I have also seen flares such as airplanes sometimes send out–I may even have one that I collected here years ago. These last longer than a split second and they travel downward, not in all directions.

The camcorder records sound very well, but there was no sound except for when I rustled the grass, fiddled with the camera, and from the road traffic.

I’m not sure about the colors–whether they were just red and white or whether there were more colors. The objects blinked in random patterns–nothing like an airplane.

The objects I watched by eye seemed to dart, dance, and gyrate, and because of that and the flashing, I had gone to the video camera to photograph the motion. In the video, the white objects seemed to just give very quick flashes and it appeared that what I captured of these were flashes. Occasionally, there appeared to be double white lights.

After I recorded the views, I brought the IPhone and camcorder into the house and e-mailed the camera photos to my computer, and downloaded the camcorder video tape recording in to the computer. I still have the original e-mails and camcorder tape. There was a game going on at the school several miles to the west, so I contacted someone there to see if anything had been released. The answer was no, and I didn’t think so to begin with but checked anyway. Later I called the airport to see if anything unusual had been flying here or if anyone had seen anything. They said no, and suggested calling the Bigelow organization that collects UFO information. I think I called them twice and left a message. They returned the call several days later, but I didn’t get back to them. I immediately on November 4 posted the video both on YouTube and Facebook and also did the next day in order to find out if anyone else had seen or knew anything, but I didn’t find out anything. The original November 4 YouTube videos and other posts are still on.

The wind was blowing from north to south. The objects traveled from west to east. If the wind were coming from the north, the group of objects would have been blown to the south and stayed in view if they had continued to be lit. Instead, the group flew behind the tree and building to the east and quickly disappeared. Thus, because they were not flying in the direction the wind would have blown them, they may have been operating under some form of power.

Because this was my backyard, I have taken many other videos in the same area, with the same lighting conditions, in wide and narrow angle views, with a tripod, including videos of different aircraft, and have not seen anything like this. For example, airplanes photograph as discrete continuous objects following a path; they don’t look like randomly scattered blinking lights. These other videos don’t show the white and red objects as seen in this one and could be used as control videos to compare normal videos to this one.

Immediately after I made the photography, I wondered if I had photographed anything, because this was difficult photography. It was dark, which made it difficult to use the iPhone and to even turn on the camcorder let alone focus it. But when I uploaded everything to the computer, I was amazed that everything had worked–the cameras had come on instantly and in focus.

I had taken three photos by iPhone immediately after the red objects had passed on 2016.11.04 at 19:22:27, 19:22:32, and 19:22:37. These three turned out well and although I thought I had photographed nothing because I did the photography after the 2 red objects had passed and I didn’t see anything when I took the photographs, the camera appeared to photograph some sort of splotches passing in front of the camera.

The videotape also turned out much better than I expected. I might have seen a few flashes when I made the video, but the actual video showed much more. When I clicked through it, one click at a time on full screen in the dark it showed many flashes and also a pair of red objects. I had set the camcorder to daytime photography to try to get the colors of the planets, this allowed me to photograph the objects in color, and it did photograph red and white flashes

When I uploaded the three photographs into the computer, I noticed bright spots in them that photographed the same way objects would. They were generally to the east of Venus. Although the photographs were taken only 5 seconds apart the spots were not in the same place, thus it appeared that they were moving (as the two red objects had done).

In order to check whether the spots were in the same place, I made computer transparencies and overlaid them. This showed that the spots were not in the same place in the photographs. Thus, they had been moving and this would make their outlines in the photographs less clear.

In order to find out if the spots were part of some natural background, I looked at the photos that were taken right before I saw the two red objects. There were several of these photographs and no such spots were visible on any of these photographs. Thus, the spots didn’t appear to be part of the natural background. They also wouldn’t be some form of camera artifact.

With this camera, I can easily photograph such objects as Mars and Saturn and have even photographed dimmer objects such as Neptune and asteroids, so I’m familiar with the camera’s performance. The stars and planets, of course, stand still whereas these objects were moving and thus more difficult to photograph-with less distinct outlines. I saw no airplanes at the time I took the photographs and I would have noticed them because I was looking at Venus. Moreover, it would be unusual to see three airplanes together at once, and I would definitely have noticed. The only things I had seen near Venus were the two red objects and that was a few seconds before I took the photographs. Also, I doubt if my camera would have taken photographs of birds or insects, because it was dark. The objects showed up as bright spots that looked like lit objects such as Mars. The trees photographed as dark bodies that were barely distinguishable from the background. In addition, the trees were much larger than birds and don’t more around.

Although the only objects I saw were the two red ones, it appeared that I had photographed several other things. Because I had seen the red objects with my eyes, I thought the spots might have also been objects traveling with the red ones. I think they weren’t the red objects because these had been exactly vertical and the spots I photographed were in more of a horizontal configuration.

Thus, it appeared that more unlit objects might have passed after I saw the two red ones. I didn’t see these when I took the photographs, so they might have been unlit but traveling with the red object/objects.

These spots were a bright color and this is how the illuminated objects, such as Mars had photographed. I think if I had photographed birds, they have appeared dark. Thus, I thought that the objects might have been emitting some form of light or other radiation that could photograph, but not be visible to the human eye.

I quit photographing with the iPhone, because the entire south part of the sky suddenly lit up with all kinds of flashing lights and I ran to the video camera. This also made me wonder if the bright spots were objects, because the flashing lights would have come from objects, but the only objects I had seen before this were the two red ones. Also, all I saw of the flashing lights were the flashes; I assumed the flashes were from objects that weren’t visible in the dark. Thus, perhaps the spots I saw were among the objects that flashed later but were not emitting radiation in the visible range or flashing when they passed Venus.

This photography suggests that some objects might have been traveling with the red ones, but I may not have seen them because they were not lit in a light frequency visible to the human eye. Immediately after this, however, the entire sky lit up with flashing, blinking objects. Thus, they may have changed their frequency (during the flashing) to one visible to humans.

Perhaps this could be a reason why it is sometimes reported that UFOs will suddenly blink out or disappear.

I was able to upload the video recording, which had photographed the tail end the group of dancing objects before they disappeared behind the tree. I was also able to click through this video one click at a time in full screen in the dark and also to modify the lighting on this video to study it further.

The video definitely showed some of the object’s flashing as distinct, obvious, bright objects with discrete boundaries. It also sometimes showed dimmer flashes, or bright flashes turning into dimmer ones

The video showed the blinking and color of the lit objects. These were red and white blinking objects, but no other colors were evident (but there may have other colors that just didn’t photograph). These objects appeared real because they showed up against the sky not against any background. The first two red objects that I had seen with my eyes shone a very bright red–sort of a blood red color. Two red objects that seemed to be together also showed up on the video, but these were not as red. However, a camcorder photographing in the dark might show a different color than the eye would see, even if it photographed the same thing.

The white objects would blink on and off at random times in random places over a wide area of the sky. (The photography was taken over the fields of a large farm. The neighbors were relatives, and no one was doing anything odd that would cause objects to appear at that time).

I had initially seen two red objects traveling to the east. Although I didn’t see this with my eyes when I took the video, it also captured two red objects that flew together and stayed on for a while–the video captured them three times. I don’t know if these red objects were the same ones I saw with my eyes at the beginning when they passed Venus. There were several rapid changes in configuration of the red objects and I don’t know whether this was caused by a red object darting from one place to another, or if there had been a larger object that turned on different red lights. I had seen no obvious connections between the two red objects in my original observation by eyesight but don’t know if these were what I was seeing in the video. Sometimes a third and maybe more red lights would be with the two that stayed together. Many of the flashes were very distinct and clear, whereas some were blurred. I don’t know if the blurring could have been caused by motion. I had very little time to film the trailing edge of the group, before they flew behind the tree (but it was still possible to slow down the recording on the computer and find a lot of detail).

The video showed red objects and it sometimes showed two that would stay on for a while and traveled together. I don’t know whether the two red objects that seemed to fly together in the video were also the first two I saw with my eyes (the possibly barbell-like ones that passed Venus). These were not vertical as the ones I saw by eye were, but were tilted and more horizontally oriented. These two red objects together showed three separate times on the video. Sometimes these two objects would be in different distances from each other and in different orientations. The two red objects that sometimes appeared together did not look like blinking airplane lights, because an airplane would travel away in a straight direction and generally have more than just red lights. If these were on an airplane, it was doing unusual gyrations.

I saw no strobe lights with the group of red lights that stayed together, such as airplanes have, and there was plenty of time on the video to see strobe lights.

At other times, I would see three bright, clear red objects on at once, like a triangle. I couldn’t tell whether there was anything connecting the objects. Sometimes I would see several red objects together and wondered if they could all be lights on one object. I also wondered if some of the objects had quickly moved from one location to another. There seemed to be brighter sharper red objects and some dimmer ones that were more like blotches, or maybe rapidly moving objects. I don’t know if there were other colors.

The red lights that traveled together in the video did not turn on or off at exactly same time (as seen in the slowed down video), although this timing was quite close to synchronous. In airplanes, such lighting would be synchronous. The first two views of the red objects that stayed together stayed on about the same amount of time, but the last one was shorter. And the time between views was less for the last one also. The distance between the red objects varied. Thus there had been no patterned sequence of blinking lights such as is on aircraft.

Other oddities were that the two red objects would completely disappear between flashes. Nearly all aircraft in the dark keep at least one steady light on all the time. Their blinking pattern wasn’t regular. Also, they were higher in altitude each time they appeared. They might have been traveling upward after they had passed me at what appeared to be a fairly low altitude. If aircraft are going over the horizon, they go down. These appeared to rise as if they had just taken off, traveled upwards, or were getting closer, but they didn’t look any larger as they would if they were becoming closer. And if these were the lighting on a craft, I should have continued to see them because there was a lot of time on the video for them to show up again. But I didn’t see them again–they slowed only three times.

In comparison to the red objects, when the white objects blinked, they would sometimes be on for just a tiny fraction of a second (they appeared and disappeared in one click), they generally seemed brighter and sharper than the red objects, and individual objects did not appear to move together as some of the red objects did.

These were nothing like strobe lights. Although a strobe light may flash on and off quickly as these objects did, a property of strobe lights is that they are regular. There was nothing regular in the flashing of these lights. In comparison, when one watches airplane strobe lights, the strobes continue in a smooth path along with the airplane. These white objects appeared and disappeared all over a large area of the sky. Their strobing wasn’t regular, nor did any strobes follow a continuous path.

There were some very distinct, bright red and white objects, but others also looked red and white, but dimmer and more blurred. I don’t remember from seeing them with my eyes if there were other colors. In general, they seemed stationary when they were lit up, but some were a little blurred as if they had started to move rapidly.

No object’s flashes were recorded in the same exact place, so I photographed nothing that was fixed or stationary. I think I taped only one blink twice in almost the same location.

There was no smooth movement like an airplane flying away from the camera. In several instances, an object would look double as if it were two objects together or had very rapidly moved while blinking on. The planets never appeared as double. Some of the object’s lighting seemed to have trails as if this were showing motion. Sometimes UFOs are reported as merging or coming apart. These double images suggest that the objects could be close together, or possibly even be merging.

There were several indications that these objects had some form of power. One reason is that the group took a definite direction and was not simply blown with the wind. The ability to move in a different direction from the wind indicates that some form of power is in use. Also, they glowed, and this glowing would take power. In addition, they were able to blink off and on. Blinking lights such as strobe lights use different forms of power and some form of control is needed to make the light flash on and off. The ability to light up and to flash indicates that some form of both power and control existed in these objects.

During the time the video was made, the camcorder was toggled between a wide (wide-angle) and a narrow (telephoto) field of view. The first portion shows a wide-angle view that includes the tree silhouettes below and to the left side of the picture. Venus and the Moon are a distance apart. Venus appears to move to the right, when the camcorder setting is changed from a wide to a narrow field of view (it doesn’t really move). A number of the flashes showed up in different places in the wide angle view and this showed how large a portion of the sky the flashes took up.

Because this wide view covers such a large angular distance, if this display of the group of objects had been of aircraft lighting, it would take up a much smaller angular distance. For example, the angle covered by the diameter of the full Moon is about 31 arcmin or half a degree. A close airplane would subtend about the angular size of the Moon. The display of this group of objects was many, many times the angular size of the Moon.

These object’s flashes could also be compared to the general background. I took the video of the tail end of a group of flashing objects that were headed east. Thus, there are more of these flashes on the left side. The background is dark with large irregular blotches of black, red, green, and purple that changed shape constantly and were dimmer and less defined than the flashes. The objects that flashed differ from the background because they are generally obvious, bright, and circular-shaped with well-defined edges, and smaller than the background blotches, rather than just large amorphous, changing blotches.

Because the background isn’t white, I think most of the white flashes are from objects. Unlike the background, the white flashes some are very clear, and sharp, although some are smaller and dimmer. The red objects that photographed the best were also circular-shaped with fairly well defined edges. However, both red and white objects could transform from well defined into less well-defined flashes. An instance here is where two of the red objects that traveled together began as sharply defined, but became less well defined later. At 00.08 – – 00.17 two sharply defined red objects and then three were seen at first. Then the third one blinked off, but the two continued together. But as they continued, they became less well defined. At 00:10 – -00.15 the two red objects that traveled together showed for the last time. On their last blinks, both objects showed as bodies that seemed to go to the left with trails to the right. Then they disappeared and didn’t show up together again, even through there was time on the video for this to happen. Perhaps they had sped off.

The white objects would often light up for only a small part of a second. They often would appear for only one click. Because they were on for such a small amount of time, it is best to go through the video one click at a time, else these very short flashes wouldn’t be seen.

The bright, clear objects with distinct outlines are most frequently on the left side and middle of the video images, because the group was heading east and few bright clear ones were on the right side by the time the video was taken. However, the right side could be used as a control to show what the sky would normally look like if no blinking objects were present. Although the sky is the same on the left and right side, the blinking white and red objects are generally visible on the left side. If these objects were some kind of camera artifacts, the objects would be visible on both sides. (When I had first seen the display it was to the west of Venus and heading east and then the flashing objects covered a wide area of the sky but they were drifting to the east and by the time I had the camcorder on, I was just photographing the tail end of the group. When I took the video, I thought it might be too late to get anything, but I did photograph some of it.) Thus, because the flashing was mainly on the left side of the video, the right side might be used as a sort of control for how the normal sky would appear. I have many videos that could be compared to this one and used as controls.

I disregarded the area at the bottom of the video, near the line of the tree silhouettes, when looking for object’s flashes, because there was some background lighting, which might have caused some form of photographic artifacts.

The video began with a wide-angle exposure. A white light appeared at 00:00 – -00.25. It was below the Moon and to the left of Venus. Because the camcorder was recording at the wide angle setting and shows both the Moon, Venus, and silhouettes of the trees, it demonstrations that even at this stage (as the group of objects flew east) that objects could appear far enough west to show that the display took up a considerable angular distance.

Two (or maybe 3) white objects appeared at 00:02 – -00:23, then more flashes appeared. Increased activity begins at about 00:07. One of several double appearing white blinks occurred at 00:08 – -00:17, another was at (00:08 – -00.07), and another at 00:015– -00:10. These may be two white lights that are near each other when they flashed. One white object flashed twice in about the same location (00:16 – -00.09 and 6 clicks later also at 00:16 – -00.09). At 00:11 – -00.14 four fairly dim white objects flashed; two of these were quite close together.

At 00:13 – -00.12, a white object appears in a wide view above a tree silhouette, and 3 clicks later another white object appears to its right and some distance away compared to the tree silhouette. Nothing was visible during further clicks. One trailing, dim white object appeared to show on the right side as late as 00:19 – -00.06.

The first two red objects appeared at 00:07 – -00.18, they then continue to appear together through 8 clicks until the furthest left one blinked out at (still at 00:07 – -00.18), then another one appeared below the former position of the left one (still at 00:07 – -00.18). After that two red objects appeared together again at (00:07 – -00.17), and then after another click a third red object appeared ((00:07 – -00.17). The two red objects appeared together again at 00.09 – -00.16. Sometimes a red object would appear by itself such as at 00:09 – – 00.16. At 00:08 – -00.17 two red objects that have stayed together are visible, in one click the one on the left becomes fainter and sort of appears as if it is moving down, in the next click a red object appears under the right red object that is still on, as if the left object moved to the right and under the right object which stayed lit. Because several red objects sometimes came on together, possibly they were lights on a larger craft. Sometimes they would form a triangle.

Both white and red objects sometimes appeared to have trails, for example white one at 00:03 – -00.22.

These red objects were sharp, but others sometimes appeared that were less sharp and I don’t know if these were just photographic artifacts, or objects with dimmer lights, or red objects in motion. Some of the white flashes were much clearer and more distinct than others. When I am recording stars or airplanes with this camera after dark, I see no flashing objects like this, so they weren’t camera artifacts. The main time there are camera artifacts on this camera’s videos is when the battery is low. These artifacts are normally rectangular-shaped and sometimes they contain colors or designs. They aren’t flashing objects like these. I just watched the video portions that were above the tree line at the bottom. There may have been artifacts along the tree silhouettes and higher because of background lighting.

I posted this video on YouTube on that day and have posted more several more times. Because one could see a lot less on YouTube than on the HiDef video, I just posted several slowed down, enhancements of the video to show what some of the blinking objects looked like and a general view: https://youtu.be/P1Cge5TpIyc. I also tried adding a HiDef video, but the YouTube ones didn’t have enough pixels to show much and I received no comments.

I think my iPhone was pointing in the general area of the southwest when I took the photos and the photos were in full high definition.

The camcorder was mounted on a tripod and pointing south. It was a Sony HDR-HC5 HDV 1080 4MP MiniDV Hi with 10x Optical Zoom and digital zoom. The recording was made in 1080p full high-definition video on DV cassette tape. The camera has night vision, but I had it set for day vision, so I could see the color of the planets. The video was transferred to an iMac computer using iMovie. The video is large, 425 MB, and I do not know how to send it. The YouTube video upload shows much less than the actual video.

I have the original photographs that I sent from my iPhone to my computer and the tracking information. I think I had GPS turned off, but the coordinates were latitude: 40.174204, and longitude – 82.964062. I also have the original videotape. My camera taped over the video, but I had downloaded it before this happened, and I have heard also that an original video can be retrieved even if something is taped over it.

A second reason I have not yet reported the sighting was that I had the photos on my iPhone, but then purchased a new iPhone. The technician assured me that everything would transfer from the old phone to the new one. But later I discovered that everything had transferred except these three UFO photos and several before. I felt terrible because I thought I couldn’t verify the photos. But I just (2017.10.11) found out about EXIF data and tried this with the photographs. This worked, and I was able to extract the digital information from the photographs, as shown below:

I used the Internet program camerasummary.com to extract the EXIF information and that for the first iPhone photograph is: “The image on the left is your original image and the image on the right is the thumbnail stored within the image file. The photographs that I had originally mailed to my computer provided a complete EXIF. However, another portion of the photographs (not the UFO ones) did transfer from my old iPhone to the new one and these are still on my iPhone.

Several people looked at the photography. One person wanted something else called the raw data on the iPhone photos. I looked for this, but it was lost during the transfer because the three UFO photos did not transfer. Since everything on the old phone was transferred at once (not separately) by an electronic process, it is strange (and very irritating) that just the UFO photos didn’t transfer. It might be interesting to try to investigate this; I still have the receipt for the new phone.”

Conclusion

At this time, I am unable to determine what the witness saw that evening, and for now, it remains tagged as “Unidentified.”

Background

The witness states that he was spending 3 days on the beaches of North Myrtle beach. He states that one the first night he began to see lights about a mile out at sea acting in ways that were unbecoming of any aircraft that he had witnessed in the past. The second night continued as such and on the third night, he states that the activity had increased significantly. This led to the witness grabbing his camera that had night vision capabilities and he filmed a 4 minute long video, capturing only a part of the encounter.

He describes the event as being totally quiet, except for the background noise of the local city and lasting approximately 15 minutes.

He describes the objects as “balls of light” and that they would burn bright for a while before dying down to a blinking like state. Witness was unable to visualize any shape or form to the objects. Witness states that he is of sound mind and body and that he has no experience in the aviation field.

The Evidence

• As the video begins, the light can be seen above the water and at 0:06 there are 2 lights visible, one being right below the other. About 3 seconds later, we see the light fade out into a blinking pattern and appears at about 0:22. Around this time, a second light can be seen in extreme proximity to the first light, as if attached. This light fades once again at 0:33 and returns to a blinking state.
• At 1:06, the witness pans around looking for the object only to find that it is now much close to the water than it was before the lights went out. At this time, multiple adjacent lights can be seen. It then dims back out.
• At about 1:51, it reappears and begins to make a vertical rise until about 2:00, when the witness pans to his left to see that there is another light over the ocean. Above this new light, you can see an obvious aircraft.
• The object is lost visually at about 2:48 and reappears at 4:10, at the same height above the ocean.

The Analysis

This video really grabbed my attention when it first hit my desk, as it was just an odd piece of evidence.

Unfortunately, being in night vision, it leaves a lot to be questioned in regards to the shape of these objects and that the video presented with no sound attached to it.

The maneuvers that were being demonstrated by these lights were almost helicopter like, for example the HH65 Dolphin, which is used by the US Coast Guard.

Vertical rises are common in helicopters and so are night operations at sea. The lights seemed to be going in and out, which was very unlike night time rescue operations, as it is extremely dangerous for both the aircrew and the pilots. However, pilots are trained to fly “blind” and learn to not depend on their computer systems or lights, which would explain the flickering that can still be seen, as the tail light would still be on.

As someone who has performed Search and Rescue (SAR), I know that swimming in darkness is not an uncommon thing and especially among the Coast Guard Rescue Swimmers, who are the best of the best in their fields. These operations would be common. 

It is unusual to have multiple Dolphins operating in one sector, due to our sector only having one attached to it.

The Coast Guard does perform large training operations but not near extremely small sectors such as Georgetown, where the Dolphin would have been stationed.

It could have been another Dolphin that may been attached to a visiting cutter and training operations were underway. The thing about these helicopters though, is that they are loud and not designed to be stealthy.

According to witness’ testimony, the area was silent and no helicopters were heard.

Conclusion

I turned to the Navy performing training operations, however, the Navy has no ports in the area.  Cruisers and destroyers do make regular visits to the port of Charleston.

This is where I began to straddle the fence between these being helicopters or something that I may not recognize. I contacted the USCG sector that was in charge of the area via their Public Affairs officer, but due to OPSEC, no information could be released about any past operations.

I spent a few hours watching and rewatching the video, but my military experience is guiding me towards the possibility that this may have been a Coast Guard or Naval night operation.

Of course, this is an educated guess and is formed solely on my interpretation of the evidence and the statements of the witness, so it should not be considered an “answer.”

Background

On December 29th, 2017 RT News Channel, reported on what some social media users in Lipeskt, Russia called a, “UFO”. Please see the RT Article titled, “UFO Traverses Night Sky”in Western Russia”: https://www.rt.com/news/414244-ufo-lightball-spotted-russia/

“First, there was a bright spot in the sky, then came the light – similar to that of a spotlight – and then it exploded. What was it?”, a witness to the Lipetsk sighting asked, as reported by RT.

A similar sighting was noticed and reported by many in Los Angeles, California and surrounding areas.

As reported by the New York Post and others news media on December 22, 2017, “A space satellite launch sparked a brief UFO scare in Los Angeles Friday night after startled viewers gawked at an unidentifiable streak of light soaring across the night sky.”

It turned out that the Los Angeles sighting was a Space X Falcon 9 Rocket Booster. The Los Angeles sighting is near identical in description and video accounts to the Lipetsk sighting and shares many of the performance characteristics that have been seen, videoed and photographed in sightings of similar nature around the world, which are usually near military and corporate launch pads.

The Analysis

In this case the videos and pictures say it all. This is some type of rocket that was seen under the correct circumstances that caused the object to illuminate. The “bright spot” followed by the “explosion” was almost certainly caused by the jettison of a Russian Rocket Booster. 

Further evidence is shown by a post on the popular Space.com website, archiving the space launch activity throughout the globe on specific dates.  On the day this sighting took place, Space.com reports on their Space Calendar:

Dec. 26: A Ukrainian Zenit rocket with a Russian Fregat upper stage will launch Angola’s first satellite, the AngoSat communications satellite, from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

The Conclusion

The position of Kazakhstan in relation to Russia, coincides with the location of the sighting (just south of Western Russia) and potentially the flight path of the rocket.  The exact path and direction of this launch was not found for this report, but we feel confident that this solves this case, as the time and dates (and physical descriptions) match.

We believe that given the above evidence, we can mark this case as solved.

This video was captured within two miles of my home in Las Vegas, Nevada on the night of March 19, 2016.

What an awesome sight this was to see.

I saw a light in the sky just above the closest mountain to my home which is less than two miles away and began to film it because I could tell it was a UFO immediately. This is also the same mountain that shows up in many of my videos of UFOs just above a rooftop of a building near my home. This time, I saw where the UFO came from and caught it in the air just before it began to descend and eventually land.

As it was descending the lights went out but the moonlight was strong enough to where I could still see it in the camera lens.

It lurked in the darkness at the base of the mountain and eventually showed itself again briefly. Several minutes later it showed up again just above the rooftop of a building you see in many of my videos.

As it was leaving I noticed that it was, in fact, two objects now. I saw it for a second or two more back in the same spot it landed and then it disappeared.

Amazing!

Witness Testimony

Filmed in Chiclayo, Peru February 27, 2017 – 12:30 am to about 1:30 am: I do not know what this is, only that this is what I am filming.

I went outside to look at the sky to see if it was going to rain, since it was raining on the other side of town.

When I first looked up, I could not see the sky well due to street lights, so I used my hands like binoculars and saw what looked like 2 lights; 1 over top of the other. I asked another person to look at it; they thought it was funny looking also.

So I went and got my HD Video Camera and started filming. I ended up seeing this for the next 3 nights, the 3rd night I saw a total of 4 of these in different locations in the sky.

Lynchburg, Virginia – 03-04-17

I had been seeing these for days in Peru, Feb. 27, 2017 – Mar. 1 2017. Then on March 2, 2017 I returned home to Lynchburg Virginia. When I looked up in the sky on March 3, 2017, I saw them again.

On Mar. 4 2017 about dark there was a very bright looking star setting in the west. (See Video 1)

Video 2 is same object with lights on. Video 3 and 4 more of them overhead. I finally stopped filming because I am very tired and worried, looking at them all the time.
