This case was sent to The Black Vault for ideas on what may have happened. Along with the case, a ton of scientific data was sent over, as tested by various labs and scientists. It was decided, that the best course of action may be to post everything online, and collect a “community feedback” session to gather ideas. Everything related to the event, and analyses, are below.

This case file begins with the final report by Nicholas Reiter, a scientist at a solar research facility and the director of an anti-gravity technology group in Toledo, Ohio, before he passed away in 2013.

The witness “SD” was put in touch with Reiter after his encounter for analysis. His report is below, which offers a good overview of the case with the primary analysis. Additional information is below.

Analysis of an Unknown Glassy Substance Found in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, 2004

N. Reiter – 29 January 2012

Background:

On Thanksgiving night, 2004, a farmer in Lancaster County, PA, hereafter known as “SD”, witnessed an unusual explosive light event near his home, over an adjacent field.  In the days following, SD examined the field soil in the vicinity of the event however no visible disturbance or alteration was evident.  Approximately one year later, after the field had been turned, SD discovered an unusual black glossy “rock” at the site of the light event from the year before.  Over the course of the next few years, SD had a variety of experts look at the material he found, and one round of compositional analysis was performed by meteorite identification specialists in Canada.  Other professional opinions were tendered by local community college faculty.  The material was determined to not be a match to any known meteoric composition however it did not closely resemble any known iron or steel industrial slag either.  SD continued to consult with both engineering professionals as well as meteor and UFO researchers about the matter.  In late 2011, by way of Barbara Becker of the Missouri Investigators Group, I was placed in touch with SD, and discussed the matter with him.  SD was generous and supplied me with about 30 grams of the black obsidian-like material, for any analysis I could either perform or facilitate.

In November and December of 2011, I performed physical and chemical testing on pieces of the sample, as well as arranged for SEM and EDS analysis to be performed.

Much information was obtained, and is presented here in a compiled form.  However at the time of this reporting, the ultimate nature of the material in question remains unknown.

The Light Event:

On Thanksgiving night, 2004, SD had stepped onto his back porch to get some air after a long day.  As he scanned the clear sky, an amber colored star-like light glided over, at an apparently high altitude.  SD at the moment was struck by the unusual color and movement however felt that it had likely been a meteor or a satellite.  He returned inside for a few minutes, and did some quick checking on-line to see if any meteor showers had been predicted for that evening, SD returned to his back steps to scan the sky once more.

Suddenly a short distance away, a brilliant white fireball of light approximately 15 feet across exploded.  The blast of light was completely silent, and appeared to be at or very near ground level, over the field adjacent to SD’s home.  The white burst collapsed into a flicker, and then all was dark once more.  SD was convinced a meteorite had landed in his field.  The sky was otherwise clear, and so it did not seem to be possible that the light burst was a lightning event.

Over the following days, SD walked his field examining the location of the light burst.  He had anticipated finding a crater, or some fused or burned region on the soil surface.  However no trace of any disruption could be found.

In November of the next year, SD had not thought of the light event for some time.  However one day, after the soil of the field had been turned, he found himself wondering if anything from the 2004 event had been plowed up.  He wandered out to the location for the light burst, and circled around, scanning the ground as he went.  At first, he found nothing unusual however on a return pass SD saw a large black shiny object on top of the plowed earth.

The slightly curved piece of black rock-like material was about the size of two fists placed together.  SD carried it back to his house, and the quest to uncover the nature of this material began.  See PHOTO A.

Early Analysis:

SD’s primary suspicion was that the light explosion and black stone were meteoric.  He eventually found a meteorite identification lab in Canada that agreed to run Fusion ICP mass spectroscopy on some of the material.  As the primary interest of the lab contacted was to identify and catalog meteorites, their involvement was short lived, after it became apparent that SD’s material did not match any classical meteoritic composition. It was discovered that the material was primarily SiO2, Fe2O3, and also contained oddly high levels of Zn (zinc) and Pb (lead).

The following is a summary of the Fusion ICP findings:

While the Canadian analysis provided a “zero’th order” look at the rock, a sizeable percentage – roughly 18% – of the material composition was not accounted for, due to the constraints of Fusion ICP analysis.  What was this missing component of the unknown material?

When I received the samples of SD’s stone, this matter was still in question, as well as the essential identification with (or not) any known terrestrial mineral or form of industrial slag.

As analytical resources were being lined up, I personally was able to confirm a number of physical and chemical properties of the sample material.  See PHOTO B.

Initial Physical and Chemical Testing:

SD related to me that he had determined early on that the black stone material was attracted moderately to a magnet.  This was a key observation.

When I received the sample pieces, I began a series of very basic examinations.  From my notebook:

Approximate density of the material (simple Archimedian test) ~3.1

Approximate hardness of the material (scratch testing) ~6.5 on the Moh’s Scale

No fluorescence in visible wavelengths under long or short wave UV.

The material was indeed attracted to a magnet, though not isotropically.  A region of slightly lighter color and coarser texture exists on the original material in a way suggestive of a surface or crust zone.  One of the sample portions provided contained a small area of the “crust”.  The attraction of this piece to a magnet, through the crust zone appeared attenuated.

Using a thermocouple, torch, and strong magnet, I was able to establish that the material appeared to have a Curie temperature and hysteresis of magnetic attraction – with force disappearing at about 150C and re-appearing at about 80C.

The material was not visibly attacked by HCl, HNO3, or aqua regia.

A Fluke multimeter was used to establish that the material actually appeared to possess an electrically conductive nature.  Between random points on samples, electrical resistance values of between 8K ohms and 400 K ohms were found.  The “crust” region appeared to have a higher resistivity.

A very thin and small flake of the material was examined with a high intensity light source, to determine the color of transmitted light.  The thin cross section (a few microns) appeared greenish.  Another thin flake appeared violet.

A small portion of the sample was heated with a torch to around 1000 degrees C on a ceramic fixture.  No deformation or vitrification was noted, thus implying that the melting temperature of the material is over 1000C.

SEM and EDS Analysis:

Several smaller chips of the material sample were taken to the local university Physics Department, for some basic SEM and EDS analysis.

Two primary objectives were kept in mind:

Could the missing 18 to 20% of the material composition be confirmed and identified?

Was the material a true glass (amorphous) or did it have a micro-crystalline nature that would in turn allow meaningful X-ray diffraction analysis?

Wide area low resolution and high resolution views with the SEM disclosed that the surfaces examined were (except for minor inclusions discussed below) without any crystal or granular nature, up to the meaningful limit of the microscope.  Thus the bulk material could be accurately called a glass, and it appears fully vitrified.  See PHOTO C below:

This photo disclosed a set of interesting complex dendritic forms embedded in the glassy undifferentiated background matrix.  We eventually found references describing these forms as being micro-crystals of iron oxide, and they could be considered as minor inclusions.

EDS analysis also confirmed our prediction that the initially “missing” percentage of composition was carbon.  See PHOTO D below:

EDS additionally was able to specify more accurate figures for the % composition of zinc and lead in the sample material.  We find evidence of zinc content up to 5% atomic and lead to around 1% atomic maximum.

Slag Properties:

With the added knowledge of the sample material provided by SEM and EDS, could we be more certain in our considerations of whether or not the unknown material resembled any industrial slag form?  A literature search was made across mining and metal refining archives, for compositional profiles of typical slags.  Slag, of course, is a cross-disciplinary term, and requires specification of the essential metal or alloy being processed.

Slag variants investigated include, iron, steel, zinc, and lead.

Given the range of material constituents found by both the ICP and EDS methods, one could presume that the general “industry” that would potentially generate a slag resembling SD’s sample could be deduced.  For example, iron and steel processing generally is intolerant of the presence of any observable amounts of zinc or lead.

We discover, however, that in zinc and lead processing, the presence of high amounts of carbon is nonexistent.

After our literature search, we can conclude the following:

1. Iron and steel slags are highly variable in composition, and may easily contain amounts of SiO2, CaO, and FeOx that might match SD’s sample. However iron and steel slags do not contain significant amounts of Zn and Pb.  They also likely do not contain as much carbon as SD’s sample.
2. Lead and zinc processing slags are also variable in composition, and may easily contain the amounts of these elements as found in SD’s sample, as well as FeOx and SiO2. However they do not contain carbon.

It is our opinion that the closest “man-made” material match to SD’s samples is zinc slag fuming residua.  However the presence of a large amount of carbon appears to invalidate this.

In summary – the black glassy stone-like material found by SD is not a comfortable or workable match to any easily identifiable man made industrial metallurgical slag.

Conclusions:

For now, little more can be said about the mysterious material found by SD in 2004.  It does not match classical composition profiles for meteorites.  It is not a likely match for any one of a number of industrial slag types.  The general form of the original “rock” as-found is itself suggestive of some artificial process – a distinct and differentiated crust along one side, and hints of a rounded profile for part of the piece.  It is unknown.

It is what I personally have come to call, after years of examining Fortean residua, “naggingly unusual”.  It is not a UFOlogical smoking gun piece of evidence.  It is an enigma.

One other topic needs to be addressed in this case.  Mr. SD has been extraordinarily open and detailed about the chronology and peripheral elements of the event – elements that would promise a deeper understanding and that “aha! moment” if only we could understand their context.

SD shared his opinion that one of the most curious aspects of his finding of the black stone was the “presentation”.  On the day in 2005 that he felt compelled to wander out into his field, to the site of the light event from the year before, SD found it highly strange that as he initially walked past the epicenter, the black stone was not there.  It was only after he circled around and returned on his footsteps through the light event spot that he saw the black rock sitting on the turned soil.  An eerie sense of “here you are, take it” came over him.  In the world of silent light balls, UFOs, and crypto-artifacts, these sorts of nuances are not uncommon, even if they may never be understood.

In late 2004, Mr. SD of Lancaster County, PA, had an intersection with the high unknown.  A year later, he was gifted a souvenir for his troubles.  While we may never comprehend the origin of the souvenir, or how it related causally to the light ball explosion, it does remain, and is tangible evidence of a mystery.

In closing, I would like to thank Mr. SD and his family for providing me with the opportunity to explore yet another vector of the unknown.  Gracious thanks also to Ms. Barbara Becker of the Missouri Investigators Group for connecting Mr. SD with me, and for her excellent initial documentation of SD’s case.

Additional Comments From The Witness

Would like to clarify a couple of things.  The bright ball was more than 15 feet. I would estimate between 20-30 feet with a bright 6-8 foot wide beam coming off an angle to the ground and then scattering  of electric. It was less than 100 feet from my back door. I estimate the ball was maybe 20 feet off the ground.

I live in Cochranville, PA, about 30 min from Lancaster, PA.

I do believe that this object connects with the phenomenon that I witnessed. I was obsessed with this finding something for many months until corn was planted. Then as soon as he cut it down I was back out there. Once I found this object the search obsession was over. Every year since, in October thru November, I get the urge to find answers about this. Usually send emails to see if any “supposed UFO researchers” want to look at this.

Note from witness: I went to AlienCon in Baltimore a couple years ago and brought the object. It had broken into two pieces. I had it in my car in the summer and it got very hot. I tapped with a hammer and that’s when it split in two pieces. Very clean break if you’re look at where it broke it is as if they are two separate pieces that melted together. So back to AlienCon, I was leaving and I put objects in a plastic grocery bag . Stupid I know. I put it in back seat of car, got home saw that bag had hole in it and the biggest piece was gone. It’s mind boggling why I would have done that. And now I’m not even sure where the other piece is. I cared for this thing for 13 years, then go to a convention and lose my prized object. I’m so mad at myself for that. Now I need to search my house for the other piece. I knew where that thing was always. Kept it in same spot always ready to show anyone. Now . I have no answer for it.

All in all, between the Canadian analysis, the SEM and EDX that I had done at University of Toledo, and the IR that Phyllis is doing – that covers most of what I think can be done.  Any further analysis would be say isotopic ratio work, but there you are talking about $600 or so, and that’s with a fellow I know doing it.  Plus, said fellow has to have a sample that can be dissolved in an acid.  Your stone material is resilient to dissolving, and so someone else would have to do it, who has ICP fusion.  XRD would be of no use, since we now know it is an amorphous glassy material, not crystalline.

The EDX pretty much filled in the question left by the Canadian lab in” what is the missing 20 – some %” by saying its probably in the zinc, lead, and quite a bit of carbon.  We found the material is mostly glassy.  Phyllis may be able to find some proof that the carbon portion is or isn’t from a melted and superheated polymer.  That should be neat.

I have not yet found a match to any form of common industrial slag.  It resembles zinc fuming slag a little, but not really.

Robert Taylor, a forester from West Lothian, Scotland, encountered a strange object and equally strange smaller objects or “entities”. The rounded larger object, 20 feet in diameter, hovered above the ground. Then, two small objects, which were round but had appendages, “rushed” toward him. These objects each attached itself to one (each) of his trouser legs and tugged him towards the larger object, at which time Taylor lost consciousness. Ground marks were discovered at the scene of the encounter.

Robert Taylor, a possible victim of alien abduction, died on March 14th, aged 88

WHAT was it about Bob Taylor? He was an unassuming man, steady, phlegmatic, with a thick brush of white hair and a craggy outdoorsman’s face. He liked a pint, and a dram too, but not when he was working. He smoked, but not too many. In his house at the edge of Dechmont Woods near Livingston in West Lothian, where he had worked all his life as a forester, there were very few books. And certainly there was none that could explain what happened to him on November 9th 1979, and why his trousers, of thick navy serge like a policeman’s and with useful pockets in the sides, should have ended up in the archives of the British UFO Research Association. 

Mr Taylor set off that morning, with his red setter Lara, to check the woods on Dechmont Law for stray sheep and cattle. It was a damp day and, after he had parked the van and set off down the forest track, even the noise of the Edinburgh-Glasgow motorway was muffled by thick, dark fir trees. The dog ran, and Mr Taylor’s trudging wellingtons made the only sound. Then he turned a corner into a clearing filled with light, and saw it. 

It was a “flying dome”, 20 feet wide, hovering above the grass. No sound came from the object, and it did not move. It seemed to be made of grey metal, shiny but rough, like emery paper. About half-way down it had a circular platform, like the brim of a hat, set with small propellers. There were darker areas on it that might have been portholes, but the strangest thing was that the dome would be solid one moment, transparent the next, so that Mr Taylor could see the fir trees through it, as if it was trying to camouflage itself. 

Both he and the dog stood stock-still with surprise. But then, suddenly, two smaller spheres dropped out of the dome and came trundling across the grass, one to his right, one to his left. They were covered in long spikes, like navy mines, that made a ghastly sucking sound as they dug in and out of the mud. They grabbed his trousers, one on the right leg, one on the left, ripping right through to his winter long johns, and giving off a foul choking smell like burning brakes. Mr Taylor felt himself being pulled towards the craft; then he blacked out. When he came to, the visitors had gone. 

So far, so impressive a story to explain a dishevelled homecoming on a Saturday night. But it was in mid-week and at midday that Mr Taylor crawled home, with the dog but without the van, with a graze on his chin and his trousers torn, covered in mud and with a thumping headache. His wife called a doctor and the police. Mr Taylor felt no need for the doctor, and after two days of a wild, craving thirst and the weird brake smell, he felt fine. But he took the police to the scene. 

And there was the evidence. A large circle and inner “ladder” marks, which had flattened the grass but not dented the ground, as if a heavy craft had hovered but not landed. Forty little round holes, leaving the circle clockwise and anticlockwise, as if spiky “mines” had indeed rolled out of it. But no track entering or leaving the clearing, making the machine’s arrival impossible unless it was a helicopter or something dropped by a mobile crane; and nothing of that sort had been seen in the area that day or the day before. 

Lights over Livingston 

The detective sergeant in charge of the case did not believe in space visitors. Mr Taylor’s boss at the Forestry Department did not believe either, and thought it was probably some secret device being tested by the government. UFO debunkers thought Mr Taylor might have seen a magnified image of Venus distorted by the earth’s atmosphere, which had made him fall down in an epileptic fit. The press came; and by the time the story reached Edinburgh, it was “small furry creatures” that had poured from the spacecraft to attack him. “I know what I saw,” said Mr Taylor. So doughtily and drily did he stick to his tale (and kept a camera with him ever after, to take the aliens’ pictures if they ever came for him again) that the police opened a criminal investigation for assault, the only one in Britain to arise from a UFO “sighting”. It remains open. 

Mr Taylor’s neighbours proving much more sceptical, he eventually moved away to an undisclosed address. But he also became the most famous “witness” to aliens in Britain. His trousers were taken to spiritualist meetings to be analysed by psychics (“I feel pain from these trousers”), and on anniversaries of the sighting UFO-spotters would gather in the clearing, just on the off-chance. 

The aliens, meanwhile, did not give up. Since that November day they have filled the skies of West Lothian with glimmering discs, strange lights and bouncing balls of fire. The “Falkirk Triangle” now registers more UFO sightings, around 300 a year, than any other spot on Earth. A good many happen outside the Forge restaurant in Bonnybridge, where fireballs sail over the trees and “wingless planes” are seen in the fields. Some experts say West Lothian may be a “thin place”, offering a window from the Earth into another dimension; others say the sightings are linked to the lack of jobs locally, and cheap liquor. But some know the aliens are just looking for Bob Taylor, or his dog, or his van, in the place where they last saw him, suddenly amazing them in a clearing among the trees.

On the afternoon of January 8, 1981, a strange craft landed on a farm near the village of Trans-en-Provence in the Var region in southeastern France. Physical traces left on the ground were collected by the Gendarmerie within 24 hours and later analyzed in several French government laboratories. Extensive evidence of anomalous activity was detected.

Renato Nicolai; Trans en Provence, France

Summary

The Trans-en-Provence UFO event occurred on January 8, 1981 and was observed by a single witness. Due to the French privacy laws, the case was originally published with the witness name replaced with the pseudonym Renato Collini; however the witness name is by now well known to the UFO community as Nicolai.

The account provided by the witness to the police authorities is as follows:

I have lived in Trans-en-Province at my current address for nearly 14 years. My wife and I live alone. She is the cleaning lady at the social security office in Draguignan. I have not worked since November 1979. I was previously an employee of the SCNI company. This firm went out of business and I was laid off. I recieve a disability pension because I suffered from a heart problem since 1973.

Yesterday, January 8. 1981, I was busy around the house as I am practically every day. I was behind the house, which is built over a restanque (raised level). I was building a concrete shelter for a water pump. Behind my house on the same level is an expanse of flat ground. It is reached through a path along the base of the house.

It was about 5PM. The weather was turning colder. My attention was attracted by a slight noise, a sort of faint whistling. I turned around and saw a device in the air at the height of a big pine tree at the edge of the property. This device, which was not spinning, was coming lower toward the ground. I was only hearing a slight whistling sound. I was not seeing any flames, either below or around this device.

While it was continuing to come down, I went closer by walking towards the stone cabin above my house.When I placed myself against the wall of the cabin, I could see very well over the roof, since this cabin too is built over a raised level. I was on the higher level, about 1.2 m from the roof. From that position, I clearly saw the device resting on the ground. Right away it lifted off, still emitting a slight whistling sound. Reaching a point above the trees, it left at high speed toward the forest of Trans, that is, towards the northeast.

When the device lifted off, I saw four openings below, through which neither flame nor smoke were escaping. The device kicked off a little dust when it left the ground. At that instant, I was about 30 m away from the landing site. Later I went to the spot and I noticed a circle about 2 m in in diameter. At certain places along the circumference of the circle were traces like abrasions…

The device had the shape of two saucers, one inverted on top of the other. It must have measured about 1.5 m in height. It was the color of lead. This device had a ridge all the way around its circumference. Under the machine I saw two kinds of pieces as it was lifting off. They could be reactors[1] or feet. There were also two other circles which looked like trapdoors. The two reactors, or feet, extended about 20 cm below the body of the machine.

I have not felt any disturbance of the sense of vision or hearing.[2]

Parts of the account obtained by a civilian investigator are also relevant:

There [the witness]discovers a sort of ovoid vehicle, with the general shape of two half spheres of unequal volume, clearly separated by a flat ledge, extending at least 15 cm and forming a ring around the metallic mass which has a… height of between 2 and 2.5 m/… The machine lifts off, making a slight amount of dust and with a soft whistling. Then it seems to tilt, exposing its underside, and it takes off at lightning speed, passing exactly between the two tall trees, at the exact spot from which it had seemed to fall.

The witness has noted that the landing trajectory is not identical to the takeoff trajectory.[3]

GEPAN (a department of the French Space Agency responsible for the investigation of UFO reports) also reconstructed the trajectory and duration.

Trajectory The witness states he began to perceive the phenomenon in the sky above the trees at the back end of the large platform, more precisely between the two tall conifers that tower above the wood. Mr. Nicolai states that the motion was fast and continuous, without sudden changes in speed, and that there was no stop until the time when contact was established with the ground… The departure path is described by the witness as similar to the path of arrival…

Sound … He compares it to a wind blowing fairly strongly. He does not say[4] whether or not the sound stopped during the landing. The shock at the impact point was recalled like that of a stone falling to the ground[5]…

The Takeoff Phase … the object was resting on the ground for several seconds[6] before it suddenly rose vertically over several meters, tilted… continued to rise in this position and disappeared in the sky.[7]

Note that this object is engaging in the behavior I have termed “drop-in”, where the object arrives on a steep trajectory and departs on a steep trajectory, with only a short period in the landing or near landing location.

Detailed Sequence Of Events

Of importance to determining the point or range of events in the sequence which might correspond to the creation of the trace, is a detailed and measured sequence of events, which, based on the reference, seems to be as follows:

0-3 secs	Witness first sees the object which appears to be above two tall conifers approx 35 m from the impact point.	Distance estimate is based on map and statement that the cabin is 35 m away from impact point; comparison of that distance on the map[8] with the distance to the tree suggests an additional 35 m to the tree.
3 secs	Object strikes the ground with a sound like a stone falling. The motion from the trees to the impact point is fast and continuous.	Assuming the distance from the impact point to be 35m for the top of the tree, and assuming the altitude to be above the tree (stated to be “dozens of meters high”[9],[10]); because of the error in translation, resolved to 10 m, we take 10 m as the altitude of the object; the distance traversed between first sight and impact is therefore 14 m. The following assume a constant deceleration: The deceleration based on a 3 second time to cross this distance is -0.32G from a speed of 34 kph. According to Velasco, an upper limit to the weight based on the ground trace is 700 kg. To accomplish the noted deceleration at that weight would require a thrust of 7,171 kg.
4-25 secs	Object is on the ground and the witness is continuing to move to a new location.	Assuming 8 secs to walk 10m (a reasonably brisk walk), walking 30 m takes 24 secs, of which it is assumed 1-2 secs are used while object is descending, since the report refers to “while it was continuing to come down, I went closer by walking”.
25-28 secs	Witness observes the object on the ground.	According to the statement: “several seconds”; also, “From that position I clearly saw the device resting on the ground.”
28-35 secs	Object lifts from the ground, tilts, and departs.	Altitude appears to be that of the tops of the trees, here estimated to be 10 m (“it lifted off… reaching a point above the trees, it left at high speed”[11]). It took from 1-3 secs to accomplish this. The following assume a constant acceleration / deceleration: If it took 3 sec, then it accelerated at approximately 0.45 G for 1.5 sec to 5 m and then decelerated at -0.45G to 10 m; the thrust required in the acceleration phase is 10,204 kg assuming a 700 kg weight. If it took 1 sec, it accelerated at approximately 4G for 0.5 sec to 5 m and then decelerated at -4G for 0.5 sec to 10 m; the thrust required in the acceleration phase is 91,840 kg, assuming a 700 kg weight. The GEPAN account differs somewhat, claiming “it rose vertically over several meters, tilted above the platform, continued to rise in this position and disappeared in the sky.” Hopefully “several” is 10 or so.

An analysis of the formation of the trace is available below.

Trace Evidence Analysis Report

Introduction

While several analyses of the Trans-en-Provence UFO landing trace have been performed, no analysis is known to this author which attempts to constrain when in the sequence of events the trace was formed, or the implications of that formation time for the possible energy output levels and falloff rate of the force which created the trace. This paper describes a rationale for considering that the trace was formed on departure, and that the energy output which formed the trace has a relatively rapid falloff with distance.

Description Of The Trace

The trace was found by the witness immediately after the departure of the object. The trace was circular, 2.4 m in diameter, and had the form of a ring, 0.2 m in width (it is claimed that there is a “crown” to the trace which is only 0.1 m in width[12],[13]). Note that the witness reported the object surrounded by a shelf approximately 0.15 m in width[14].

Photographs[15] show the trace as lighter in color than the surrounding dirt. Vegetation remains (leaves and sticks) from the edges of the path where the object landed are seen to cross the trace (as of the next day). There does not appear to be any preferential orientation for this material, nor does it appear affected by pressure or heating. In combination, this indicates the possibility that either a) the force which produced the trace had no outward and no inward components, or b) the material was swept back over the trace either at or after the object departure. Note that the witness mentioned the object’s departure as having raised some dust.

The soil of the trace is lighter than neighboring soil, appears to be slightly raised or crusty, and bears radial striations. These striations are not perfectly radial, but are slightly curved in a clockwise direction, and are slightly irregular. The trace ring shows these formations most prominently on the directly east and west sides of the ring. The north side of the trace shows a slightly lower degree of the same effect.

The width of the ring as photographed and diagrammed shows no notable deviation, nor does the circularity of the ring show any notable deviation.

Hypothesis Concerning The Time When The Trace Was Formed

The following hypotheses are possible with regard to when the trace was formed:

1. The trace was formed at the time the object decelerated.
2. The trace was formed when the object impacted the ground.
3. The trace was formed when the object was resting on the ground.
4. The trace was formed when the object rose from the ground.
5. The trace was formed when the object hovered before accelerating away.

For the purpose of these hypothesis it is presumed that the trace is a side effect of a force exerted by the object.

Discriminators

There are discriminators which can help select the most likely of the hypotheses:

1. Geometric discriminators relate to expectations of the geometry of the trace based on the dynamic behavior of the object.
2. Energetic discriminators relate to whether a given hypothesis can, from the present or required kinetic energy, generate the temperature change expected based on the trace analysis.

Important Facts

1. The trace is circular, in the form of a ring. No notable deviation from circularity appears to be present. No other traces are visible.
2. Most prominent trace effects are E, W, and slightly less to the N on the ring.
3. The trace shows the effects of heating to below 600 degrees C. This heating was thought to be due to friction or impact[16],[17].
4. The trace is a ring either 0.2 or 0.1 m in width. The outer diameter is 2.4 m. If the inner diameter is 2.2 m, the area of the ring is 41.4 sq m. If the inner diameter is 2.3 m, the area of the ring is 21.15 sq m.
5. The trace shows effects to a depth of 1 cm in the thickest area of the trace.
6. The volume of the trace is thus 0.04 cu m.

Assumptions

1. The object mass is 700 kg. The acceleration due to gravity is 9.8 m / sec / sec, and the speed after falling 10 m is 14 m / sec or 50 kph. The kinetic energy of the 700 kg mass at the end of that fall is 6.86 x 10^11 ergs (6.86 x 10^6 joules).
2. The object engaged in forward motion during descent. It was first observed 35 m from the impact point. The forward speed is 34 kph, assuming a constant deceleration over 3 secs to a speed of 0. The forward kinetic energy is thus, at first appearance, 3.07 x 10^11 ergs (3.07 x 10^6 joules).
3. The total energy of the object (kinetic and potential) at its first appearance, is 9.93 x 10^11 ergs (9.93 x 10^6 joules). This is, in essence, the energy budget of the object, which it is assumed must be dissipated prior to or at the time of intersection with the ground.
4. A force was emitted as a cylinder with a wall 0.1-0.2 m thick and that cylinder extended perpendicular from the rim of the object, and this force was the means by which the trace was formed. This is supported by the correspondence between the width of the rim and the width of the circle.
5. The material of the object has a specific heat similar to magnesium (1.01 / g – degree C or 1001 / kg – degree C)[18]
6. The ground has a specific heat 1/5 that of water (838 joules / kg – degree C)[19].

Evaluation

1. The trace was formed at the time the object decelerated

This is not supported, since

1. Forward motion would smear the trace away from circularity, which is not observed.
2. Forward motion with the force cylinder pointed toward the trace would cause the force cylinder to have an oval intersection with the ground, which would approach circularity as the object approached the trace site. This is not observed.
3. There is no preferential effect on any part of the trace which is along the line of travel (incoming WNW, outgoing ENE). Preferential effects do not show a correlation with the line of travel.

2. The trace was formed when the object impacted the ground

This is not supported, since:

1. If the object retained any forward motion, the objections raised to the previous hypothesis still hold.
2. If the object had dissipated all forward motion, the only remaining motion would be downward. If all of the vertical potential energy, now kinetic, were dissipated into the trace, a temperature increase of only 1.36 degrees C would be the result. This is insufficient to cause the observed effect. Addition of the forward motion only increases the temperature by 0.61 degrees C.
3. The imprint of an impact would show an the “feet” rather than the shape of the rim, unless the feet were not extended until departure. If the feet were not present, the imprint would take the form of the bottom of the object. In either case, the expected imprint is not observed.

3. The trace was formed when the object was resting on the ground

This is not supported, since:

1. The imprint of the object resting on the ground would show an imprint of the feet rather than the shape of the rim, unless the feet were not extended until departure. The expected imprint is not observed.
2. A weight of 700 kg undergoing gravitational acceleration cannot produce the levels of heat observed.

4. The trace was formed when the object rose from the ground

This is supported by the shape of the trace, which indicates that the force was applied in a nearly circular pattern; if released from the rim of the object, which is suggested by the dimensions of the trace, there are no apparent variations in geometry which might be attributed to wobble or to a sweep of the force cylinder to one side or the other.

There are several possibilities as to how the trace might have been formed at this time:

1. The full force of the thrust was expressed as pressure on the ground within the area of the ring. If this is the only contributor to trace formation, this pressure must be sufficient to heat the ground to some affective temperature below 600 degrees C.
2. The thrust was expressed in the kinetic energy of particles which dissipated their energy as heat upon impact with the ground. These particles might be molecular, atomic or subatomic (i.e. electrons, protons, etc.)
3. Electromagnetic radiation was dissipated as heat within the area of the trace. This radiation might be a side effect of the thrust.

Subhypothesis 1 is not supported, since the maximum suggested thrust (91,840 kg in the 0.5 sec to 5 m scenario) creates a pressure of only 2 atm, or 23,000 kg / sq m. This is not sufficient to produce the indicated heating.

Assuming the kinetic energy of the particles of subhypothesis 2 to be the same as the kinetic energy of the object at the end of the acceleration phase, the highest degree of heating produced would be near 3 degrees C. Thus, subhypothesis 2 is not supported.

Insufficient information is available to assess subhypothesis 3. Since we do not know much about the spectrum of possible radiation, it is difficult to make any estimates as to how much energy might be needed to created the observed heating.

All of these hypotheses and figures should be examined, keeping in mind that the weight estimate is based on the weight effects on the trace, and if the weight of the object did not cause the trace, the trace forces may simply reflect the weight of the object combined with the force of the thrust. Under these circumstances, thrust, energy and weight estimates used above would be much less meaningful, except insofar as they provide upper limits to the actual values.

5. The trace was formed when the object hovered before accelerating away

Given that the thrusts and energies of hypothesis 4 (except for subhypothesis 3) are insufficient to produce the trace, the forces in a hover at a higher altitude would also be insufficient. Further evidence that this is the case comes from a geometric analysis, which shows that the subsequent tilt of the object would have produced an elongation of the trace, or a variety of parabolic or hyperbolic secondary traces, none of which were observed.

Findings

Geometric evidence indicates that the trace was not formed on approach, impact or during the tilt to final departure phase.

Kinetic energy to heat conversion evidence indicates that the trace was not formed on impact or by the object resting on the ground, or by the thrust of the object on departure expressed either as pressure or as the kinetic energy of particles ejected from the rim of the object.

These findings support the idea that the Trans-en-Provence trace represents an unconventional event.

These findings also place certain limiting conditions on the forces used by the Trans-en-Provence object. For instance, it seems that the object did not generate trace-producing force on the ground during the approach phase, despite the need to dissipate apparently considerable kinetic energy in the downward and forward direction. Furthermore, it apparently did not generate trace-producing force on the ground during the tilt to depart phase. In both of these phases, the altitude appears to have been approximately 10 m.

This indicates an extremely localized force. A similarly sized helicopter, for instance, hovering at 10 m would create a large disturbance on the ground due to the downward flow of air from the rotors.

Suggestions For Future Trace Investigations

1. Weight measurements are critical. Even an upper or lower bound weight can be helpful in dynamic simulations. But no information about the weight of the object can be inferred without measurements of the resistance of the soil to penetration. Depth of the trace or pressure resistance of the trace is meaningless without control measurements outside and at some distance from the trace.
2. Dimensional measurements need to be precise. The area around a trace must be checked for subsidiary traces. These geometric characteristics need to be able to be checked for the slightest irregularity or deformation.
3. If possible, core samples should be obtained across the trace and in control areas outside the trace. Sample depths of up to 1 foot are preferred. These allow analysts to infer more about the nature of the cause of the trace, and also preserve information which can otherwise quickly decay.
4. If evidence of heating can be found, it can assist in dynamic modeling.

Conclusion

The Trans-en-Provence UFO observation lasted under a minute. However, in that minute, information was gained by an alert witness and extracted by focused and experienced investigators which allow an analyst to form and validate hypotheses about the nature of the object.

The Trans-en-Provence UFO was able to dissipate considerable kinetic energy without affecting the ground beneath it. This may have resulted in the observed “whistling” sound, which indicates a motion of air away from the object. The object was then able to create close to 600 degrees C of ground heating on departure, despite the apparent insufficiency of mere thrust pressure to produce those temperatures. It then departed after tilting, and did not produce any further effects on the environment at that time.

Many previous observations have indicated that the UFO rim is a source of energetic phenomena. The Trans-en-Provence case continues to support that pattern.

Related Work And Observations

One analysis of the effects of the Trans-en-Provence UFO[20], based on samples taken at a variety of radial distances from the trace seems to indicate an effect on plant metabolism which varies with the reciprocal of the square of the distance.

A similar trace was observed at Delphos, KS, in 1971[21]. That trace, however, was not as focused as the Trans-en-Provence trace, and was wider. Also, the object was seen to hover for some period on a “skirt” of luminosity which was directed toward the location of the trace – this was not observed in the Trans-en-Provence case. There is, however, some indication that some UFOs emit a field which is not visible to the human eye, well as twilight reports which may indicate that UFO luminosity is present at all times, but is insufficiently bright to be seen in the daytime.

The event of a UFO impacting the ground and making a noise occured at Marignane (1952), where the object landed on a metal runway grating.

Background

This case is from the Henry McKay UFO Archives and involves a UFO landing in a field of tobacco plants, as well as a greenish-blue residue found at the site.

The incident was investigated by pioneer physical trace ufologist Henry McKay. The late Henry McKay (1927-2007) was the first director of MUFON Canada and also investigated for CUFOS (headed by Dr. J. Allen Hynek), NICAP (headed by Maj. Donald Keyhoe of the U.S. Marines), APRO (headed by Jim and Coral Lorenzen), and many others. He also served in the Air Force.

On Sunday, July 6, 1975, at approximately 4:30 or 5:00 P.M., a tobacco farmer by the name of Joe Borda observed a silver domed-shaped UFO in his field of tobacco plants in Mount Pleasant, Ontario, Canada. The object was approximately 400 yards away from where he was standing and Borda assumed it was just a neighbour’s stainless-steel irrigation truck or tank. It was later reported that none of the neighbours had their work vehicles out that day.

Two days later, on July 8, Borda found a circular-like depression, approximately 20-30 feet in diameter, of damaged tobacco plants at the spot where the object was seen two days earlier. Some of the leaves from the tobacco plants within the depression were burnt brown. Other tobacco plants within the depression were flattened, and some were found broken at the stem.

A greenish-blue oily residue was also found among the damaged tobacco plants.

Samples from the site were collected by the county’s Crown Attorney, Charles Borda, who was also Joe Borda’s brother. Charles handed the samples over to the Brantford detachment of the O.P.P. (Ontario Provincial Police) who in turn sent them to the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto for lab testing.

By the time pioneer ufologist Henry McKay arrived on the scene, every trace of the greenish-blue residue was removed by police.

Henry later contacted the Brantford detachment of the O.P.P. to obtain the results of the lab tests conducted on the samples by Forensic Sciences.

In a letter to Henry from the Brantford detachment of the O.P.P., dated August 12, 1975, it states they were informed by Forensic Sciences that “the tobacco samples appear to have been struck by lightning”.

Not fully buying into the lightning explanation, Henry asked the Brantford detachment of the O.P.P. for a copy of the Forensic lab results. They told Henry he would need to contact the Centre of Forensic Sciences.

Henry tried relentlessly for over ten years to get a copy of the Forensic lab results from various Canadian government agencies who kept referring him back and forth between agencies: Centre of Forensic Sciences, the Canadian Department of National Defence, the Office of the Premier (Ontario), the Attorney General of Ontario, members of parliament, the Solicitor General, and others.

If this was just a simple case of tobacco plants struck by lightning then surely there should have been no issue with releasing the report — especially considering that the property owner (Joe Borda) and the Crown Attorney (Charles Borda) gave full permission to Henry to gain access to the report. Charles also tried on his own, as Crown Attorney, to get a copy of the Forensic lab results and not even he could gain access to the report.

40 years later, in 2015, ufologist Bob Mitchell, a well-respected retired Toronto Star journalist and executive for MUFON Canada, attempted to carry the torch for Henry’s quest of obtaining a copy of the lab results after Henry passed away. Mitchell contacted the Forensic Science Centre in Toronto, the O.P.P., the Canadian National Research Council, and the R.C.M.P. (Royal Canadian Mounted Police). According to Mitchell, none of them had information about the incident ever happening.

Fortunately, The Henry McKay UFO Archives has a letter dated August 12, 1975, from local police indicating that yes indeed the Borda samples were analyzed by Forensic Sciences. A digitized copy of this letter, along with another letter and a sketch by Borda, have been released to Black Vault. Additional Information

For what it’s worth, it should also be noted that according to the book titled, “Gateway to Oblivion”, by Hugh Cochrane, three unknown men barged their way onto the Borda property in a limousine with Arizona license plates. They apparently drove straight to the damaged area, knowing exactly where they were going without any direction from Borda, and took samples of the damaged tobacco plants. When Borda went out to his field to question them they reportedly told him that it was none of his business and to go away.

In 2015, Mitchell visited the area to research the case 40 years later and spoke to one of Joe Borda’s descendants. Mitchell told The Henry McKay UFO Archives that during his research he discovered that the limousine with the Arizona license plates arrived a few hours before Borda even notified police.

The following information was provided by Kathleen Marden.

“The twin sisters involved in this case report that their contact experiences have been occurring since childhood, when “bald men” would enter their bedroom and carry them off during the night. They described the beings as diminutive figures with oversized craniums and black glistening eyes. From age 5, the girls filled notebooks with sketches of the “bald men”. When they were old enough to write, they documented their experiences in notebooks and diaries. Their experiences have been investigated by various researchers dating back to the 1970’s, in the Bridgewater Triangle of Massachusetts. There is evidence that early investigators believed in the veracity of the case.

Kathleen Marden began her case investigation in 2008, and in 2010, submitted a tooth and vegetative matter that was found on the elder twin’s bedroom floor, following an alleged experience. The witness reported that she had awakened during the night and observed a non-human entity at the foot of her bed. She stated that she thought her dog had bitten the intruder and lost a tooth in the struggle.2 The tooth turned out to be a puppy tooth and the vegetative matter could not be connected directly to the intruder.

Marden (MUFON ERT Director) participated in the investigation of another incident, involving the same twin, in January 2013, in conjunction with MUFON FI Valerie Schultz (Now NH MUFON Director). It is listed as a Category 3, CE4 in MUFON’s case files. The witness reported that she believed she had been abducted the previous evening around midnight after she was awakened by a light that filled her bedroom–the type of familiar light she observes prior to an abduction. She immediately perceived the onset of paralysis throughout her body. Her next memory was of experiencing a falling sensation and dropping onto her bed. She discovered that she was bleeding and, the following morning, was taken to the hospital and treated for substantial blood loss.

Since 2013, the witness has sent Marden photos of unusual marks on her body, fluorescence on her body following a consciously recalled event in which she thought her injured knee had been healed, a photo of what the experiencer suspected was an implant traveling up her arm, a photo of a glittery substance that she said appeared on her skin, sofa and coffee table during an interview that took place at her mother’s summer house, and reports of other unusual activity at her mother’s summer home. She also submitted photos of close-up unmarked black helicopters that she states hovered low over her home on mornings after her abductions. This case is mentioned in “The Alien Abduction Files” by Kathleen Marden and Denise Stoner (2013).”

Objective

This particular event involves both 42-year-old twin sisters. The names in this report, except Denise Stoner (Investigator of the twin’s abduction experiences), are kept confidential. It took place in September 2015 in the home of the twin’s mother which is in southern Maine near Oxford. It was break time for a filming of a TV show for a Japanese production. Multiple witnesses saw a white material which appeared to materialize on the twins’ faces and arms, on the sofa, and on the coffee table. Following is the detailed description of the ‘materialization’ in Denise Stoner’s own words.

“The home has what I would call – two small living rooms. I was in one that was close to the kitchen. I was sitting in a chair facing the other room where the twins were sitting on a sofa facing me. There was a coffee table in front of them and a few other small tables in the room also. (twin’s Mother) was sitting on the sofa in front of me and did not see the substance until her daughter came into the room and sat down next to her. I was watching the filming of the interview and questioning session but not listening because (mother) and I were talking. I noticed one of the (twin 1) pointed at the coffee table and then a member of the film crew pointed at the twins. I don’t recall which one had the largest amount of the “stuff” on her. On the coffee table, there was a mound about 3 inches, from my perspective, tall and like a small mountain coming to a point at the top. From where I sat it was whitish in color. I kept my eye on it when I believe (other twin 2) came in and sat down next to her mom. She was covered with this white, glittery, plus some other substance. It was on her hair, clothing, face, hands, and so on. She brushed some of it off but it did not come off easily.

It was really stuck to her. I got up and from my purse, I took an empty amber-colored medicine container (I carried clean ones just in case I wanted to collect evidence of some kind) removing the cover. ‘Twin 2’ was already gathering some things to collect samples and talking about what to do. I can’t recall if another friend had arrived – I’d have to look up his name but he said he wanted a sample. I used the container to scoop some of the substance into mine and held it up so I could see it was half full (about a heaping teaspoon). I placed the lid on and taped it shut with scotch tape. I then went into the kitchen to get a baggie, put the bottle in there, zipped it shut and sealed it with silver duct tape. I then put it upstairs in my carryon luggage and locked it. When I arrived home, I put the bag in our safe.

I want to say that I did pick some of this up from the table in my hands and sorted it out to see what it looked like. At the time, what I discovered in my hand was – several octagonal shaped (tiny) pieces of glass like substance with an opal-like color to them. Also, there was a pure white, very soft, powdery “stuff” that was not rough to the touch but did not feel like your normal talcum powder either. It appeared more cottony/fluffy to look at but very tiny and almost as it wanted to stick together. There were darker shiny pieces of tiny rock-like items that seemed to be just that. Then other grainy items that could have been sand but I’m not sure and there wasn’t much of it. In the thimble full I put in my hand, I did not see any sticks, leaves, or other of that type debris. It could be the heavier material had fallen to the bottom though. The twin’s mom did not move from the sofa. She more or less felt what was on her daughter and watched from her seat on the sofa. If she collected any, it was not something I witnessed.

It was quite a while later, maybe 2-3 months, that I decided to take it to a meeting where I knew there would possibly be a couple of scientists attending. It was my meeting and Kathleen (Marden) was going to be there. I was particularly interested in doing this (hold the meeting) because another individual, who lives near me, had been having a white substance appear in her living room and was going to bring some of that to compare with what I had. I had requested that anyone who would like to, and had an unusual item, to please bring it to the meeting. I don’t recall how many others brought something but there were perhaps 3 or 4. I removed the tape from mine, took the medicine bottle out and removed the tape and cap. I tipped the container over onto my hand and nothing came out. I looked inside and was totally surprised to see there was not a sign anything had ever been inside. I handed the container around the table for everyone to see. I don’t recall exactly when I did this but at one point, I scraped the inside to see if I could get at least a tiny bit of what had been in there as a sample. It was clean. I have no explanation for it.”

The sample that was submitted to this laboratory was collected by ‘twin 2’ and stored in a plastic bag which is shown below. This did not dematerialize. The object is to identify the white substance.

Conclusions

• The white material is mostly composed of clear platelets which are identified as glass. A smaller amount of powdery particulates are also glass. These materials appear to contain a small amount of quartz. There are trace amounts of environmental debris, thought to be contamination introduced when the sample was collected, which consist of: insect exoskeletons, plant particulates, possibly calcium carbonate (a common soil mineral), and an ester containing material which is not specifically identified.
• The visual appearance of the white material seems similar to clear glitter and confetti. However microscopic examination, along with infrared analysis, clearly rules it out as source of the white material. Both are polymers identified as polystyrene (glitter) and poly(ethylene terephthalate) (confetti).

The Travis Walton abduction is well known to most people reading this. Suffice to say he was part of a logging crew on November 5, 1975 in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest. The abduction site is in the east central Arizona mountains, and is accessed only by old logging roads. After calling it a day, and with the sun going down, the crew of seven got in the truck to head home. As they traveled down the road, a UFO was spotted hovering off to the side. Travis got out, approached it, and was hit by a beam. The crew panicked and drove off, but quickly returned to find Travis missing. He was gone five days, and then reappeared just outside Heber, Arizona. For details on this event, see his site www.travis-walton.com or read Travis Walton’s book “Fire in the Sky”.

Though the event happened 40 years ago, soil samples were collected from the site, along with nearby control samples. It should be noted that besides 40 years of weathering, a massive forest fire occurred in 2002 which devastated the area. Still, it was hoped that if a permanent change was made to the soil due to the UFO’s proximity, it would be detected.

This laboratory is also in possession of wood core samples from the site. The trees were cored 24 years after the event in winter 1998/1999 by Mike Rogers before the forest fire. He sent cores to W. C. Levengood. Levengood passed them along to this laboratory September 2012. The core samples are intriguing because of the tree rings. Wide rings from the site trees show that from the time of the abduction in 1975, and for 15 years afterwards, they experienced rapid growth. Cores of trees just outside the site show no rapid growth. Furthermore it was observed in January 2012 that the wide rings are not concentric around the trunk. That is, they are elliptical and even wider where they faced the UFO. Some testing has been done on selected core samples and is not completed. This analysis will not be addressed in this report.

The objective of this project is to determine whether the analysis of the soils will detect any anomalies which can be related to an unknown craft (UFO). Also it hoped to be informative to other scientists/investigators that may be able to add input and further interpretation to build on what is found. It is also desired that the information and testing serves as a protocol for future testing of soil samples related to UFO events. That is, which procedures and tests should be done.

Note: While this project was personally generated and primarily financed by this laboratory, we must acknowledge and thank our friend and colleague Dr. Sampath Iyengar for discounting and partially donating his services for EDX elemental analysis and XRD characterization of the soil samples and magnetic particles.

Conclusions

• The composition of each the soils consist of primarily quartz, mica and feldspars (microcline) minerals with some humates (organics). Small amounts of metallic particulates are present which contain iron oxide permutations of hematite (Fe2O3), ilmenite (FeTiO3) and magnetite (Fe3O4). Quantitatively the amounts of these components vary between the samples.
• It is revealed that iron containing particulates amounts are higher in the site soils compared to the control soils. Furthermore, there is indication that the levels tend to be higher in the surface soils compared to the sub-surface soils of the site samples. This laboratory speculates that the hovering craft propulsion system has a powerful electromagnetic effect thereby drawing (and concentrating) these iron particulates toward the surface. This has been observed in the analysis of soils from other sites where UFOs landed or hovered close to the ground.1 It was more specifically noted that sample 2 contains less particlulates compared to the other site samples, but slightly more than the controls. Soil 2 is approximately where Travis landed after the beam hit him. Perhaps this suggests that the UFO was not influencing the metal content as much at this location.
•  The exchangeable cations (calcium, magnesium, potassium) are significantly higher in the site samples than the control samples. This would indicate some chemical changes in the site samples. The detection of the differences in cationic activity in the soils is intriguing. However, compositional differences, e.g. such as clay (microcline) content may affect the CEC values.  (The amounts of minerals were not determined.) It very speculative that the effect is due to a UFO, because the samples were collected 40 years after the event. But, it should be noted that this laboratory has analyzed substances from other events which were in proximity to a UFO. And, there is indication that while hovering an electronic force field surrounds the craft, causing an ionizing effect to materials in close proximity. For example, in the famous Delphos Kansas event, a craft was observed depositing what turned out to be mostly fulvic acids which chemilumenesced for almost two days. In Poland, a hovering/landed craft deposited vitrified soil chunks which glowed for months.
• We believe this analysis justifies additional examination of soil samples from the site. It was under sampled and more metal particulates analysis is needed for confirmation of their relation to the UFO effects.

“June 17, 2013 – White Powder, found inside Florida home by (Experiencer), on marble window-sill & behind electric fireplace

DETAILS: (Experiencer) has been interested in UFOs/ETs, etc. for many years; is (or has been) a “Field Investigator” for Florida MUFON. She has visually seen light-balls (BOLs) from time to time in her house, once in 2016 after a hurricane when there was no electric power in neighborhood & her house totally dark. Has done a lot of “sky watching” last several years and has videotaped “craft” & has found “puncture marks” on her body & strange bruises which look like “3 fingers” in recent years.

On June 17, 2013 she was looking for her cat behind her big flat-screen TV which sits on a wooden bookcase-like stand in front of a wide, heavily-curtained window in the living room, and found piles of white powder along the inside marble window-ledge. She associates no particular anomalous incident to this discovery.

From photos of very crowded living room I suspect this window is perhaps never opened & is usually (or always) heavily curtained.

On the same day or shortly thereafter, after seeing her cat staring at electric fireplace (off) which sits on floor under the TV (& therefore under same window), she pulled unit out and found more white powder behind it also.

She reports that before she disturbed a few of the piles of powder on the window-sill, it had all been deposited in more-or-less separate rounded piles. The powder dissolves in water & apparently dissipates (either is absorbed by, or leaks out or turns to a gas) in plastic bags, which is how she first stored it. The approximately 6 teaspoons she still has left is now stored in a glass container.

She says she sent a sample (apparently in plastic bag) to the Dept. of Agriculture (Florida State?, I didn’t ask) some time ago, but got no response back.

In discussions with friends (who are “experiencers,” or “psychics” or “mediums” they have told her it was a “gift” (from ETs, I gather), which she then felt meant it had “healing” properties, which made her “think of her husband” (who is quite ill). She has allowed one friend who has a bad knee to rub his knee with the glass bottle containing the powder she still has, after which he claimed he felt heat, first in his knee & then through his whole body, after which he tells her his knee problem has disappeared—and has not returned.

On September 17, 2016 she went to a lecture by (Name Withheld), a MUFON Field Investigator TRAINEE, whom she gave another sample. He had heard of me and BLT and so contacted me to see if I could help get the material analyzed.

I’ve told (Experiencer) to mail you directly 1 teaspoon, in a sterile (if possible) glass jar, along with a sample of the type of plastic bag she kept material in previously, (when it “disappeared”).

The object is to identify the white powder.

Conclusions

• The white powder is identified as a hydrated form of magnesium sulfate (MgSO4●xH2O x=ca.7).
• Magnesium sulfate is primarily used for therapeutic purposes. It is commonly referred to as ‘Epsom Salt’. It’s used in bath soaks, hydrotherapy, in formulas this salt has been hailed as one of the easiest solutions to some common health ailments.1 Other uses include: fireproofing, textiles (warp-sizing and loading cotton goods, weighting silk, dyeing, and calico printing), mineral waters, catalyst carrier, ceramics, fertilizers, paper (sizing), cosmetic lotions, dietary supplement.
• After considering the uses of magnesium sulfate it is not clear as to why the powder appeared in the locations it did. Mediums/friends told the Experiencer that the white powder was a gift from ETs which she felt had healing properties. This analysis cannot confirm the source, but as noted above it does have therapeutic properties. However, this analysis does suggest that the source of the white powder magnesium sulfate is not from ‘Epsom Salt’. The physical forms are different, i.e. the white powder is very fine particles, while ‘Epsom Salt’ consists of larger granular aggregates of particles.
• The magnesium sulfate was purported to disappear when stored in a plastic bag. However, microscopic examination of the same plastic bag revealed that there are white particulates present.
• ’Epsom Salt’ was ground into white particulates to simulate the white powder and placed in an unused plastic bag supplied by the ‘Experiencer’. It did not dissipate/disappear over a three week period. The weight remained constant. So it is unknown why the magnesium sulfate stored in the ‘Experiencers’ plastic bag disappeared.
• The Experiencer’s sample is not the same as the white powder found in a number of Robbert van den Broeke events which was a hydrated form of magnesium carbonate, specifically with formula (MgCO3)4•Mg(OH)2•5H2O.3 This white powder mysteriously appeared in several crop circles, on a small table in a home, and outside a balcony door.

Two witnesses observed barbell-shaped UFOs dispensing white filament-like material. The account as written by the principal investigator Bill Schroeder follows.

“On November 4th, 2016 the Investigator was contacted by witness 1. He advised that he and witness 2 had observed a number of Barbell shaped objects in flight over his dwelling. The object first observed was silver metallic in color and 20 to 30 inches in length. When first observed the object was at rooftop level or about 35 feet over his head. The object was moving silently and laterally towards a small lake just south of the dwelling. At the time of the sighting witness 1 was in the company of witness 2. Witness 1 noted that there was no visible means of propulsion observed and no sound detected. As the object arrived to the center of the lake it stopped moving laterally and began to rise. As it started to rise it began exuding a white filament like material. The material was very fine and stretched all the way to the ground. After it had risen to several hundred feet is was joined by more than 12 other like objects that seemed to be circling it as it continued to rise. At this point in time the white material was spewing from the devices in such quantity it looked like rain. The objects rose together into a clear sky until
they were no longer visible.

The white material that had fallen remained visible in trees for about 24 hours before dissipating. When witness 1 contacted the Investigator, he was requested to get samples if possible. The witnesses were able to obtain some samples of the material. Witness 1 also sent an email report of the sighting. Witness 2, who is a professional artist, painted a picture that depicted the sighting. The material was collected using a clean shish-kabob skewer. At the Investigators request the samples were placed in paper and plastic bags. The samples were sent to the Investigator via USPS Priority mail with tracking.

The samples arrived intact on November 9th, 2016. Upon arrival the envelope was opened by the Investigator who was in the company of a second Investigator. The package and enclosed samples were photographed by the Primary Investigator. The samples were then placed in evidence bags and bottles by the Investigator. The bags and bottles were then sealed and initialed by the Investigator. The arrival, repackaging, and sealing of the evidence was recorded on video tape for later review. Witness 2 painted a picture that re-created the scene at the time of the sighting. A scan of the painting was forwarded to the Investigator. A partial jpeg image is included with this report.

The evidence was placed in a safe at the Investigators residence. Part of the evidence was later sent to Robert Powell and Phyllis Budinger for examination and lab testing.

Witness Information:

Witness 1 is an adult male. The witness has been in the aviation industry for more than 30 years. He has designed military and civilian aircraft systems over that time. He is familiar with aircraft propulsion systems and overall designs. He has a PHD level of education related to the industry. This individual has been personally known to the Investigator over 40 years. Witness 2 is an adult female. The witness is a college educated professional. The witness is also a well-known artist (painter).“

Following is a picture Witness 2 painted of the event;

This analyst heard about the incident from Robert Powell. He was sending the material to another lab and asked my opinion on which tests he should request. This analyst asked for a sample after having analyzed a number of ‘Angel Hair’ samples over the years.1 I desired to compare it to these previous samples especially since very credible witnesses saw the material being spewed from UFOs. I felt the identification of this material would be a clue and a step forward in understanding the UFO phenomenon and its purpose.

The objective is to identify the white fibrous material, compare it to samples from previous events, and offer speculations as to the reason for the UFO dispersions.

Conclusions

• The analysis shows the white filament like material is primarily a biologically derived silk typical of that produced by spiders. Additionally present are very small amounts of celluloidal material, i.e. plant derived substance, possibly inorganic nitrate and an unidentified rust/red material. It is unknown if these additional materials are part of the original composition or contaminants.
• The fibrous spider silk compares to other purported fibers, aka ‘Angel Hair’, analyzed by this laboratory and other laboratories. Other laboratories have done very credible research and issued extensive reports involving spider silk fibers that fell concurrent with UFO sightings. (See page 10 for a partial listing.)
• The above identification is particularly exciting because the UFOs’ deposition was observed by multiple, very credible, witnesses. Spider silk has definitely been identified/linked to UFOs. This is an important clue.

A specimen which included a small fiber was removed from the back of an Experiencer on April 4, 2012. There is also a crystalline material included with the specimen. The object is to determine the composition of the specimen and crystal, and whether it could be related to an alien implant. Another specimen from the same experiencer was recently analyzed.

Conclusions

• The specimen is a multi-component mixture. In order of approximate concentration these include calcium carbonate (calcite), ester type material (possible glycerol type or sorbitan monooleate) and quartz. Visually noted is a fiber which is a minor part of the specimen. It could not be identified because of the interference of the other components. However, it is speculated to be of plant origin.
• The crystal is identified as sucrose which is commonly known as sugar.
• The specimen and crystal are not related to an alien implant. The above components are very common with many uses. Quartz (possible sand) and calcium carbonate (calcite) are common minerals in soil. There are other uses. The ester appears to be of natural origin, i.e. it’s commonly found in plants, human respiratory products, animals.

A fibrous material was removed from the right shoulder blade of an Experiencer on August 15, 2015. From email exchanges this analyst understands that at least one other ‘fiber’ was pulled from the Experiencer’s back in 2012. The object is to determine the composition of the specimen, and whether it could be related to an alien implant.

Conclusions

• The specimen is not an alien implant. It is of plant origin and has a composition typical to splinter from a piece of wood, i.e. cellulose, lignin, and hemicelluloses. This is confirmed by microscopic and infrared analysis. A small amount of blood is detected on the specimen.
• The shoulder location of the specimen is curious. It is certainly not a common place for a splinter to be found. If connected to an abduction, this along with a second fibrous material removed from the back in 2012 might suggest a clue to the environment or location surrounding the event.

Two boys ages 9 (Jose Padilla) and 7 (Remigio Baca) set out on a search to find a cow that was calving. After locating the cow, which was fine and nursing her healthy newborn, they sat down to a small lunch when they noticed smoke coming from a draw. They headed toward it, and as they topped a rise saw a gouge in the earth and circular object at the end of it. Reme said, “It was the color of the old pot my mother was always trying to shine up, a dull metallic color.” Moving closer, they found intense heat from the wreckage which had ignited the greasewood nearby.

They retreated from the heat to wait for it to diminish.

Around the periphery they picked up a piece of thin, shiny material which was folded up and lodged underneath a rock. It was reminiscent of the purported Roswell material, which had a memory. That is Reme said: When I freed it, it unfolded all by itself. I refolded it, and it spread itself out again.”

They worked their way back to the wreckage. As they approached they saw entities inside under stress. Jose said: “They were running back and forth looking desperate. They were like children. They didn’t have hair.” Frightened, they quickly left the scene and told Jose’s father about the crash. Two days later a state policeman friend and Jose’s dad went to the crash site. The crashed UAO was there without entities.

Subsequently, the military began to remove the wreckage, while Jose and Reme spied on them with binoculars. This took a number of weeks. At one time the site was unguarded for a short time. The two boys took advantage of this, and went inside the craft. There was a piece protruding from the inside wall, and the boys used a crowbar to break it loose. They hid the piece under the house by burying it. They did not tell Jose’s father. The military did ask the father if he knew about the missing piece which he did not.

The metal piece had been in Reme’s possession for many of the 70 years since, and a year ago Reme gave it to Jose who has kept it hidden at his home in San Antonio, NM. Two samplings of it were submitted to Frontier Analysis for analysis. The object is to see if there are any anomalies which could be related to an extraterrestrial craft. Anomalies would be an alloy composition unknown on earth and elements that have different isotopic ratios then their terrestrial counterparts.

Conclusions

• The two metal samples have identical compositions. They are aluminum primarily alloyed to copper and silicon. Small amounts of other elements are present.
  This composition is known and compares with cast aluminum in the 3XX.X series (possibilities: 301, 302, 308, 318, 319, 320, 328 322) and the 2XX.X series (possibilities: 208, 222, 238, 296).
• These alloys have a wide variety of uses. Some include: engine crankcases, gas and oil tanks, engine oil pans, typewriter frames, and engine parts.
• Isotopic ratios determined for nickel, copper and zinc compare to terrestrial values.
• Even though the isotopic ratios are terrestrial, an extraterrestrial source for the metals is not ruled out. Following are reasons that they are normal values.

1. The aliens may be time travelers. So if they are from Earth’s future, their craft are “Earth-made” and there would be no isotopic differences.
2. The aliens may have bases on Earth and construct their craft from materials found on Earth.
3. The physical processes involved in the formation of elements in other worldly solar systems may be exactly the same as in our solar system. So the isotopic ratios of the elements would be the same.
4. Finally, the metals could be from ‘our’ craft.

• The metal pieces were coated with environmental debris (dirt). Sample 1 had humate (organic soil component) with smaller amounts of minerals such as silicate and calcium carbonate (calcite) on its surface. Sample 2 also had typical dirt components on its surface, i.e. humate, calcium carbonate (calcite) and silicate mineral. In addition, there was a mineral resembling sanidine.
• The purposes of the metal pieces are unknown. Sample 1 is reminiscent of a fastener. The coarseness of a grooved surface on this piece indicates very fine machining was not required.

The witness of this event is an experiencer who has had multiple paranormal events most of his life. A strange occurrence happened February 6, 2014 around 4:50 a.m. He woke up quite early (4:30), retrieved the newspaper from the mailbox, poured a glass of water, and sitting on the edge of the bed began to read the paper. The next conscious memory was waking up at 8:30 or 8:45 feeling disorientated. Shaking and trembling went on for 5-10 minutes.

When he went to the bathroom he noticed that the tee shirt he was wearing was turned inside out and backwards. It was placed in a paper bag and stored in a dark warm closet. He also noted a red v-shaped mark on his scalp. Also his cell phone with camera was on. The 1 minute 2 second video recorded a blackened dark room with neon blue/purple lights at the very end. The sounds, besides the television and his heavy breathing, included ruffling, static, clicks and noises of some kind. He noted there was pink discoloration on the shirt. Some of it appeared to fade over time. The shirt was sent to Kathleen Marden and she noted that it faded even more. Also, there was no fluorescence under UV light.

There are two objectives. The first is to look for any anomalous substances on the tee shirt which can be related to an alien experience. The second is to compare these results to those reported in the analysis of the dress worn by Betty Hill during her abduction.

Following is Kathleen Marden’s report of the T-shirt history.

“I asked him if the shirt had been bleached and he replied that it had not been. He stated that the shirt had definitely changed color and was not pinkish prior to the event on 2-6. I asked him to take photos of the shirt and gave him instructions on how to mail it to me in the paper bag. I worried that the evidence might be lost if the package was lost in the mail, so I asked him to cut a 2” swatch from the pink discolored portion of the shirt and a 2” swatch from the tan part of the shirt and retain them at his home. He mailed the shirt to me inside the paper bag that he had placed in a large, padded plastic post office mail bag. It was probably exposed to the cold during transport.

3-13-2014: I received the tee shirt in the mail. I removed it from the bag and laid it out on the paper bag that I placed on a towel. I noticed faint pink discoloration on the front shoulder areas and near the emblem on the shirt front, and two short lines of intense pink discoloration on the sleeve. I had anticipated seeing more discoloration than I observed, as the photos I’d received showed a definite pink discoloration. I turned the shirt inside out and inspected it. Pink staining was visible near the shoulders, on the sleeves and on the lower part of the shirt.

I wrote an inquiry to the witness and he replied as follows: “As I mentioned, when I took pictures it really stood out. I put it back in the bag and when I pulled it out again it didn’t seem as stained as before. The pictures were normal, untouched photos. Try taking some pictures and the areas should come out on film. When I took it out of the bag after 2 weeks it was visible almost everywhere, I took my photos right then and there.” (*I decided not to take photos of the pink stains, as I feared that the flash might destroy whatever evidence might be on the shirt.)

3-20-2014: I inspected the shirt again, before I mailed it to the chemist, and the pink discoloration seems to have faded even more. It did not fluoresce under a UV light. I mailed it to analytical chemist Phyllis Budinger in hopes that some of the pink substance has remained on the shirt.”

When the tee shirt arrived at Frontier Analysis very faint indications of pink remained. Over time, ‘almost’ all the tee shirt restored to its original color. Photographs were taken of the shirt, and it was secured in a resealable plastic bag for several days. A trace of gray material seemed to deposit on the bag. On opening the bag it quickly disappeared/evaporated. Therefore, no testing could be done on it. It was most likely moisture, because it was cooler when the shirt was sealed, and then placed into a warmer environment.

Conclusions

No physical substance could be identified as the cause of the fading/staining on the tee shirt. If a physical substance is the cause, it is either below the detection limits of the testing (trace amounts) or not there at all. It could have dissipated. Another cause may be exposure to some sort of a high energy source. Perhaps the source effected ionization to a higher energy state, on returning to a lower state over a period of time most of the original color of the tee shirt was restored. It was noted a cell phone, which happened to be on during the experience, recorded neon blue/purple lights at the very end of the recording.

The tee shirt is made of cotton. Mostly respiration products, such as perspiration (urea derivatives, acid salt) and skin oil (glycerol fatty acids) are on the shirt. There are indications of detergent residue (carboxylic acid salts, sulfate). Trace amounts of contaminants, such as paraffinic oil and a possible food crumb (particle comprised of protein, carbohydrate plus other components) are also present.

It was noted the respiratory products are more prevalent on the inside of the tee shirt. And, there were more on the inside back than the inside front. It is known that the witness found he was wearing the tee shirt inside out with the back in front of him when he regained consciousness. This suggests that major perspiration occurred prior to when the tee shirt was removed, i.e. in the beginning of the event.

There is no connection to the cause of the staining between the tee shirt and the Betty Hill dress. Something different happened to the tee shirt. Following is a table comparing various features of the tee shirt and the dress.

• Finally, this report really presents on-going research that should be built on in future testing of experiencer clothing. Future testing can be related back to the findings of this report.

The background as reported in the posted CMS file on the MUFON website1 reads as follows. “Witness contacted Oregon MUFON Asst. SD regarding an apparent implant removed from right adenoid or other glandular passage in his throat. Object has been secured by Oregon SD and will be submitted for analysis. Additional sighting experiences related dating back to approximately 1946 or 1947. These will be described in the complete report.” The objective is to identify the AFO.

Conclusions

• The sample is composed of primarily calcium phosphate and a small amount of calcium carbonate. Possibly a very small amount of calcium oxalate could be present. It is 3 millimeters in diameter and weighs 0.0524 grams.
• These types of calcium deposits (calcifications) can be found throughout the human body and caused by a variety of medical problems. The source is not from a foreign implant.

Four witnesses of the event include a man, his wife, and two tenants who rent an upstairs room in their house. The tenants were outside about midnight on June 29th smoking cigarettes when they observed multiple orange-red unidentified aerial objects descend over their neighborhood. At the height of the event there were up to 24 objects. They were silent and floated irregularly. One of the tenants filmed the event using his SamSung Galaxy S5 phone. Toward the end, the objects appeared to slowly and silently move off into the distance in sort of a formation.

One orb was still floating behind the others and acting irregularly as if it were malfunctioning. It seemed to drop/jettison something that burnt wildly the whole way down to earth. This was now about 1 a.m.

Then the object instantly “darted” out of sight going in another direction than the other objects. (It went back “in the direction it came from.”) The ‘fireball’ dropped straight down, being a fairly windless night, taking about 10 seconds. It landed four houses up the street.

The yellow flame reached about 2’ in height, which was eventually stomped out. The residual fragment was retrieved and kept in a small Styrofoam container until MUFON investigators arrived. The objective is to identify the composition of the fragment to determine whether it is anything anomalous. Following is a photograph of the fragment.

Conclusions

• The sample is composed of greater than 50 wt.% palmitic acid (a long chain carboxylic acid also known as hexadecanoic acid) which is dispersed in fine glass fibers. Small amounts of other components are present, which are mostly comprised of other long chain carboxylic acids. These are probably impurities that come along with the palmitic acid, i.e. not refined out. There are also trace amounts of quartz which are commonly seen in glass fibers and an unidentified ester-type impurity.
• There are research publications on the use of palmitic acid as a phase change material (PCM)1 for thermal energy storage.2 More specifically, one recent publication discusses palmitic acid/SiO2 (SiO2 in fibrous glass form) composites for this purpose.3 There is visual indication that the glass fiber in this fragment may be one that is used in situations where it is exposed to high temperatures.4 So a possible speculation is that this fragment is from some sort of energy storage process related to the UAO.
• The most common use of material containing glass fiber is insulation. And, in fact the fragment has the appearance of insulation. However, the presence of palmitic acid appears be unusual. Though one of palmitic acid’s properties is waterproofing, no reference was found for it being used in insulating products.
• This fragment does not originate from Chinese Lanterns. Lanterns are made a myriad of recyclable and indigenous materials, none of which are of the composition noted above. In China they are traditionally made from oiled rice paper on a bamboo frame. The source of hot air may be a small candle or fuel cell composed of a waxy combustible material.5 Numerous websites describe many construction materials for making homemade lanterns. Indigenous materials like tree bark and fruit shells are used in some locations. Recycled materials are common such as: magazines, newspaper, plastic bottles, ribbon and string. Usually candles are the fuel source.

Fragments were gathered from a purported crashed unidentified aerial craft in the Plains of San Augustine, which occurred the first week of July in 1947. One fragment found by Chuck Wade (Wade-1) was previously analyzed by this Laboratory.1 A second fragment also found by Wade, called “I-beam”, was submitted for analysis. It is designated “I-Beam” because of its similar appearance to one. The object is to determine if there are any anomalous properties of the sample that could be related to an extraterrestrial craft. Specifically, one such anomaly would be the presence of fragment elements that have different isotopic ratios than their terrestrial counterparts.

Conclusions

• The I-Beam appearing fragment is mostly composed of aluminum coated with very small amounts of aluminum oxide (Al2O3) corrosion and environmental debris. The environmental debris include a protein-type material (animal, insect, mold or bacteria derived), calcite (calcium carbonate) and unidentified oxidized organic material which could be humate derived.
• The analysis shows the fragment, excluding any environmental debris, is greater than 97% aluminum which appears to be alloyed with small amounts magnesium, silicon and possibly iron. This alloy is in the 6000 series classification by the International Alloy Designation System3. Specifically, 6060, 6061 or 6063 could be the aluminum grade. These, especially the most common 6061, have many uses: architectural and structural applications; automotive components; boats; aerospace; aircraft; etc. A search of the internet reveals many companies who manufacture I-Beams in these three aluminum grades, and they come in many sizes.
• The analytical testing of this fragment does not reveal an indication of an extraterrestrial origin. Isotopic analysis done on nickel, copper and gallium are consistent with terrestrial values for these elements.

A small fragment with a ‘black’ side and a red side was found 1,000 feet southeast of the main Roswell 1947 crash debris field. There is nothing manmade, not even a road, for at least ½ mile in every direction from where the fragment was found. Previous SEM-EDS analysis was submitted with this sample. Detected were Al, Si, Mg, Ca, Fe and Ti. Ti was only detected on the red side of the sample. The object is to determine the composition of the fragment.

Conclusions

• The sample is covered with typical environmental debris. It is a non-homogeneous mix of primarily clay mineral (montmorillonite/smectite like), quartz mineral (sand), calcite (calcium carbonate), protein derived material (mold, bacteria and/or animal origin) and possibly plant derived products.
• The elemental analysis of Al, Si, Mg, Ca and Fe reported above are typical of elements found in dirt/soil.1 Ti is sometimes found in dirt, but it can also be from a paint additive.
• The fragment is very brittle and composed of mostly an epoxy resin ester based on bisphenol-A with a quartz filler. It has red paint which is a polyacrylate/styrene copolymer with a kaolinite-like filler. There may be another coating under the red paint composed of an alkyd resin and calcite filler. Additionally, on the ‘black’ side, olivine is on the surface. The olivine could be part of the fragment, though an environmental debris source cannot be ruled out. Materials like these are used as insulating components for the electrical and electronic industries, for aircraft and automobile components, machinery and chemical apparatus.
• Bubbles observed in the resin show the fragment has been exposed to heat. It is not known whether or not this occurred as part of a manufacturing process.
• There is a small amount of protein-type material in the resin. This may indicate mold/bacteria have established a presence on/in the fragment.

A witness claims to have seen a vortex in the sky from which shiny particles fell onto his property. This occurred in Newtown, Pennsylvania on January 21, 2014.There was no mention of an unidentified object observed. The objective is to identify the shiny particulates.

Conclusions

• The shiny particulates are identified as common glitter. They are composed of a man-made common polyester specifically identified as poly(ethylene terephthalate). Glitter is commonly made from this polyester.1 This conclusion is confirmed by both microscopic and infrared analysis.
• Analysis of the soil was not done because of the positive identification of the particulate as a man-made product. Furthermore, there was no observation of an UFO so no physical evidence commonly observed when these craft are in proximity would be detected. However, the soils will be permanently stored for possible future analysis if it becomes warranted.

A resident of Sutton farm observed an orange orb almost land in a bean field. Two days later a nine foot circle appeared in the field with the foliage flattened out. No significant radiation was detected at this site. That same night the witness also observed a blue orb directly across from her house in a wooded area. It did not touch the ground, but hovered in the trees. A slightly elevated radiation reading was noted at this site. The object is to determine whether there are any anomalies in samples of soil and foliage gathered from the two sites.

Conclusions

• The wooded area, blue orb site does have an anomaly. The soil contains burned vegetation. Its origin is unknown. Other substances common to soil are also detected such as: quartz, olivine-type mineral, another mineral, amide (animal derived material, maybe mold). Substances detected on the leaf foliage from this site consist of: insect droppings, calcium oxalate, mold, natural plant ester, possibly inorganic nitrate. It is unknown if the calcium oxalate, and possible inorganic nitrate, are abnormal at this site.
• They are commonly found in nature. However, this analyst has also noted they are present in many samples in contact with UFOs.
• No unusual anomalous materials are detected in the bean field orange orb site. Common materials are found in the soil such as: quartz, natural ester (like balsam), another mineral, olivine-type mineral, amide(animal derived material, maybe mold). The foliage contains usual substances which include: calcium carbonate, calcium barium carbonate, mold.
• A sampling protocol should be established for collection of soil and foliage samples that come into contact with orbs or UFOs. More site samples and control samples should have been collected. The soil and bean foliage samples from the bean field orange orb site (A) could be compared to the control samples from the edge of the field (B). However, the control samples could not be compared to the soil and foliage from the wooded area (C). Another control, at minimum, from the wooded area near the C site should have been collected.

In the early 1980s a witness observed the landing of an unknown circular craft. It landed next to a tree which resulted in broken limbs. The witness removed bark from the tree in the early 1990s. It had been sitting in his garage ever since. The object is to identify black and white substances on the bark.

Conclusions

• The white substance on the bark is identified as calcium oxalate. This substance is often accumulated as a metabolic end-product in plant decay and in fungi.1 So, it is not unusual for this to be present.
• The black substance is a common fungal material. There is no evidence for carbon, i.e. charred material.

Identify a plastic fragment from the Roswell debris field.

Conclusions

• The specimen is identified as polystyrene. This is a common plastic first commercialized in the 1930s. The shape of the fragment suggests it is part of a plastic eating utensil. This is a very common use for polystyrene.1 The earliest patent for a polystyrene eating utensil is February 21, 1950. 2 So, it is unlikely related to a crash retrieval team in 1947.
• The outside surface has suffered oxidative degradation i.e. suffered weathering due to exposure to sunlight under atmospheric conditions. Polystyrene is normally designed for a one time use,3 and is not weather resistant.4 It is difficult to estimate how long the sample was in the ground not knowing specific exposure conditions. A speculation, based on the appearance of the infrared spectrum and polystyrene’s poor weathering properties, is that it was no more than 10-20 years.

On June 24, 2011, 1:21 a.m., the witness was driving eastbound from Flagstaff, AZ to Leupp AZ. The account in his words follows:

“While driving east bound from Flagstaff, AZ to Leupp, AZ, I noticed a red light in the sky. It was approximately 800 feet in the air and at first I assumed it was a helicopter because of the low flying distance. I rolled the window down to see if I could hear any type of noise; no sound was present. The time was 1:21 a.m.: and as I drove onward, the light descended and flew parallel to my vehicle and just about kept the same speed as my vehicle (65mph). The orb itself was red, and emitting a red glow – darker red in the center, brighter red around the edges. It was to the left of the vehicle, approximately 50 yards away. At this point I was feeling panicked, afraid and curious.

As the road turns, I broke sight of the light and while I was turning the bend, a bright light caught my attention in the corner of my eye. The orb, now bright white, and approximately 8 inches in diameter, was now flying alongside my vehicle, no more than 8-12 inches above the road. It was flying on the shoulder of the on-coming lane and kept perfect speed with my vehicle (65mpg). The time was now 1:24 a.m. While viewing this object, I had no feelings of emotion and I was calm and collected. No noise, besides engine noise was noted, the only notable difference was the presence of cell phone signal (there usually is none). It followed my vehicle for a quarter mile, and it sped up 2 car lengths in front of me and abruptly made a 90 degree turn, upward into the sky, at which point, I leaned forward to see it shoot across the sky, like a shooting star toward the East. It was not as bright when I saw it disappear in the sky.

I arrived at my destination at 1:36 a.m. As I was pulling into the driveway, my headlights shown upon a rabbit, sitting where I was about to park. I stopped within 3 feet of the rabbit, which did not move, flinch, and blink, of any sort. It was very large and from the ground to the top of the head (not including ear length) about the height of my hood (approximately 37 inches tall). Its width was approximately 20 inches wide and it was brown and white mixed color with no distinct pattern or spots. Its eyes were black and it was sitting upright, like that of a cat. The ears were very stiff, long and together, and they were slanted back at an angle, like that of a jackrabbit. At this point, I began to panic, and I called a 2nd party to tell them of what I was seeing. The car remained running with the headlights on and I sat staring at this huge rabbit for about 5 minutes. After talking, I turned my engine and headlights off, and with the outside light from the house, I was able to keep eye contact with the rabbit as I exited the vehicle and proceeded to walk slowly around the rear of the vehicle and into the house, not breaking sight. The area seemed to be still and calm; I did not hear any unusual night noises (bugs chirping, dogs barking, etc.). Once inside, I remained on the phone until 2:12 a.m.”

The witness determined that there were no magnetic effects on the car. The oil filter was removed and sent to this laboratory for analysis. The objective was to examine the oil filter contents for any anomalies which may have resulted from the close UFO encounter.

Conclusions

• The used oil from the oil filter has normal additive depletion. There is no significant oxidation.
• A small amount of solids isolated from the oil filter paper consists mostly of sodium nitrate, and small amounts of inorganic sulfate and carbonate. The sodium nitrate is clearly a contaminant. Its source is unknown. Uses of this material include: oxidizing agent; solid rocket propellants; fertilizer; flux; glass manufacture; pyrotechnics; reagent; refrigerant; matches; dynamites; black powders; manufacture of sodium salts and nitrates; dyes; pharmaceuticals; an aphrodisiac; color fixative and preservative in cured meats, fish etc.; enamel for pottery; modifying burning properties of tobacco.1 The inorganic sulfate and carbonate are normally found in used oils.
• Further investigation by the Field Investigator is suggested to determine the source of the sodium nitrate. If no reasonable explanation can be found, such as ruling out vehicle contact with the above-mentioned materials containing sodium nitrate, the source may be related to the UFO close encounter.

On January 2, 2011, 6:30 p.m. a glowing metallic sphere was observed to shoot up to the sky from the witnesses back yard. On the ground two circular marks approximately 9 inches in diameter and side by side were noted on the grass where the object had apparently been in contact. The eastern spot (Site A) appeared to suffer a bleaching effect, i.e. was an off-white color. The western spot (Site B) appeared to be burned from top down.

Conclusions

• No unusual anomalies were detected in the vegetation and soil samples from contact site A. They are similar to the control vegetation and soil samples, and no differences were noted.
• Some vegetation from the contact site B was found to be burned. However, the soil was normal, showing no heat effects. So, the heat was localized and not hot enough to cause any changes to the soil. The source of the heat is indicated to originate from the sphere. It is speculated that either the sphere was hot, or that there was an energy field around it that induced the vegetation to burn. There was more inorganic nitrate in this soil sample, but this may be from uneven fertilizer application. Another possibility is that if the sphere had an ionizing energy field around it, then interaction with the air may have produced nitrates.
• The so-called ‘ash’ is actually plant/grass fines. No unusual anomalies are detected.
• No radiation above background was detected for any of the samples. Additionally, no material was observed to fluoresce under UV light.

A wheat crop formation was “seen” by Robbert van den Broeke in a vision, as it was occurring. This formed on August 2, 2010 in Holland. Roy Boschman went to the location described by Robbert as soon as it was light. He indeed found a formation. He also noted some of the seed-heads appeared to be partially burned. These were at the very end of a partially completed ring, or “arc”, which was part of a formation. The objective is to determine whether the cause of the blackening was burning or ustilago fungus. Following are photographs with a graphic of the formation, the formation, and the blackened seed-heads.

Conclusions

The analysis shows the seed-head top is burned. The heat it experienced appears to be localized because the bottom part of the seed-head is normal. The source of the heat is unknown. A logical speculation is that it was involved in the creation of the crop formation. The source was either hot, or there was an energy field around it that induced the seed hulls to burn.

A cigar-shaped UFO was observed in Memphis, Tennessee in April 2010. The witness claims a jelly-like substance had fallen from the sky after sighting the craft in the sky. The jelly-like material is sodium poly(acrylic acid/acrylamide) copolymer and water. This polymer is noted for taking on water many times its own weight. This material has many uses. It is commonly used in agriculture/farming because of its water retaining ability. Several companies distribute this material. One is Hydro-Gel (Finn corporation). It usually comes as a solid and water is added to it.
