This photograph was taken on Sol 3474 (May 17, 2022) on the surface of Mars.

Not long after another photograph on the Martial surface circulated that some said to be a “doorway on Mars,” another was captured that seems to give the impression to some of plant-life.

The photo was first found by Joe White from the YouTube channel ArtAlienTV on May 19, 2022. The official NASA source link is found below. In addition, special thanks to Paul Scott Anderson for alerting The Black Vault to the photo.

Possible Explanations

Beyond the hope by some this depicts plant-life of some kind, other explanations have circulated online.

1. A hard mineral vein: The theory here is that there is a mineral vein within the rock, and although the surrounding rock eroded over time, the mineral vein was harder and did not.
2. A fulgurite: Fulgurites are natural tubes or crusts of glass formed by the fusion of silica (quartz) sand or rock from a lightning strike.

The Black Vault endorses no theory, and this page is for information only. There was no formal investigation.

These photographs appeared on social media outlets Twitter and Reddit and began creating a stir on May 10, 2022..

There are two photographs that captured a mysterious area that some are saying is manufactured (like a doorway) while others argue it is just an illusion.

The photographs were taken by NASA’s Mars rover Curiosity on Sol 3466, or May 7, 2022.  They are below for analysis, and are the highest resolution photographs available.

Case File Status: Likely Explainable, See Below

The following photograph was sent to The Black Vault by an anonymous submitter. They are not a “source” but rather wanted The Black Vault to look into the photograph, available publicly for download from NASA/JPL.

The Black Vault put both photographs, both from the LEFT navigation camera, on top of each other to create a composite.

It is clear that the angle is completely different from the camera itself, but by doing this, it revealed that the “anomaly” was to the pixel in the exact same spot:

The Black Vault attempted to find the corresponding RIGHT navigation camera, which is usually taken at the same time as the left.

The closest match, would be photograph NRF_0317_0695075595_130ECM_N0090000NCAM00900_02_095J:

As you can see, there appears to be no “anomaly”. The caption indicates that the photo was taken at the same time:

The problem, however, is that numerous photographs listed on the NASA/JPL page for this day, displays the exact same time down to the second. Here is an array of both RIGHT and LEFT camera captures – all with the same time stamp:

So, the timestamp is problematic when matching photographs, but it appears by the composite, the most likely explanation would be a spec of dust temporarily on the lens. As the likelihood of an anomalous object flying in the air, taken in two different angles, would be in the EXACT same pixel-location.

The conclusion on this one, until further evidence is ever presented, would be dust that temporarily was on the lens of the left navigation camera.

To add one further note, it appears that the same effect also happened to the RIGHT navigation camera. This was discovered when sifting through the images to find corresponding evidence, should any exist.

While doing so, it was discovered that on two separate shots, both NRF_0317_0695075874_065ECM_N0090000NCAM00901_04_095J and NRF_0317_0695075595_130ECM_N0090000NCAM00900_04_095J:

… a spec of dust appears to have landed on the RIGHT navigation camera, as well.

When creating a composite, that “anomaly” as well, was in the exact same pixel-location:

The following case was submitted to The Black Vault. Although there was no formal investigation or conclusion posted, it is archived here for reference purposes.

The photograph was taken by the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter on 29 December 2006. It was originally posted and profiled by Jean Ward on YouTube. According to Mr. Ward:

Here I feature an anomaly I discovered at a new site in Ceti Mensa in the region Valles Marineris. The anomaly looks like a disc-shaped object which hit the surface of Mars at a very low angle and left a trench behind it. The disc-shaped object measures approximately 12 to 15 metres in diameter. Apart from removing a few sand dunes to highlight the object I didn’t change anything else in the photograph. To see the anomaly for yourselves please download the original JP2 from the NASA link provided below and download HiVIEW to open the JP2 (the anomaly is right there for anyone to see).

Alternatives: Could this possibly be a ramp leading into an underground entrance or is this an incomplete Project Ice-Worm structure? Or are we seeing a strange arc-shaped dune?

As always, until we get to see these anomalies up close and personal, I can only speculate as to what these objects might be.

In December of 2021, the image gained a lot of traction and was profiled on various sites making extraordinary claims. However, as Mr. Ward said, it is pure speculation at this point.

The below was written by Chris Okubo (8 December 2008). It explains the scientific breakdown of what we are looking at (with no note of the anomaly):

This image shows spectacular layers exposed on the bottom of Candor Chasma, a large canyon in the Valles Marineris system.

The floor here is approximately 4 kilometers below the canyon rim. The layers are made of sand- and dust-sized particles that were transported here by either wind or water. This canyon may have been filled to its rim by these sedimentary layers, subsequently eroded away, most likely by the wind. The elongate hills may represent areas of rock that are stronger due to differences in the size of the sedimentary particles, chemical alteration, or both.

One of the most eye-catching aspects of this scene are the intricate swirls that these layers form. Sedimentary rock generally accumulates in horizontal layers. These layers, however, have been folded into the patterns that we see today. Folding of the layers that are exposed here may have occurred due to the weight of overlying sediments.

Understanding the geologic history of this region may provide clues into the history of water on Mars, because these layers may have accumulated in shallow lakes and may have undergone chemical reactions with this water. The presence of certain kinds of chemical reactions between water and rock can release energy that could have sustained habitable oases in these areas.

Case File Summary

What are we looking at?: This is a photo taken by the Mercury Redstone 1A Mission launched on December 19, 1960.

Out of the 420 photos archived in ASU’s collection, there are multiple photos that capture, what appears to be, an unknown object, or possibly a craft, that shouldn’t be there.

In 1960, there wasn’t much in space, so what could this mysterious object be?

Photo #MR-1A-9186-266 – This appears to be the first photo of the object, and it appears towards the lower left side of the frame.

Photo #MR-1A-9186-267 – Nothing anomalous appears to be in this frame, but it is included for research.

Photo #MR-1A-9186-268 – Here, what appears to be an object, appears towards the top left. Although not significant, when coupled with the next frame, it seems like the object is flying towards the Mercury-Redstone spacecraft. Illusion?

Photo #MR-1A-9186-269 – Here is the most important, and clearest frame. The object now appears again towards the lower left side of the frame.

The Analysis

After posting this case file, I received a lot of feedback.  Those skeptical on the case proposed that it was a reflection of something inside the craft. So, I did a bit of analysis to see if that theory holds water.

I used 2 photos from the string above. Photo #MR-1A-9186-266 (B&W) and also Photo #MR-1A-9186-269 (Red Tint). I feel that you can discount this theory of a reflection, due to the fact the “reflection” does not appear in 2 of the photos in between these two frames in or near the spot, and also the theory ignores Photo #MR-1A-9186-268 which may show the object much farther in the background.

But, for sake of argument, we will dismiss those photos and deal with the two argued as a reflection. I used, what I believe, is the only constant (non-moving) object in the frame of photos – the reflection of the mission clock. The spacecraft is moving, so therefore, objects on the outside of the spacecraft would be moving their position in the frame as well.  Matching the clock on the photos, would show what was constant inside the craft as it would appear in the same exact position, and what was ‘moving’ outside the craft therefore being in different positions as the spacecraft moved.

By matching up the clock on the top left, you can see the “object” in question appears to be in a different position, therefore potentially ruling out it’s a reflection inside the craft of an object. If it was a reflection, once the clocks were lined up, the “reflection” would also be on top of each other.

About the Mission: Mercury-Redstone 1A (MR-1A) was launched on December 19, 1960 from LC-5 at Cape Canaveral, Florida.

The mission objectives of this unmanned suborbital flight were to qualify the spacecraft for space flight and qualify the system for an upcoming primate suborbital flight. The spacecraft tested its instrumentation, posigrade rockets, retro rockets and recovery system.

The mission was completely successful. The Mercury capsule reached an altitude of 130 miles (210 km) and a range of 235 miles (378 km).

The launch vehicle reached a slightly higher velocity than expected – 4,909 miles per hour (7,900 km/h).

The Mercury spacecraft was recovered from the Atlantic Ocean by recovery helicopters about 15 minutes after landing. Serial numbers: Mercury Spacecraft # 2 together with the escape tower from Capsule # 8, and the antenna fairing from Capsule # 10 were reflown on MR-1A.

Redstone MRLV-3 was used.

Flight time 15 minutes 45 seconds.

STS-75 Comparison

Although not much can be concluded from this, it should be noted. This is not proposed to be an exact match, however, multiple UFOs were seen on Space Shuttle mission STS-75. This is known as the “Tether Incident,” and the objects do have a similarity.

Objects of circular shape were also seen on STS-75, many with a notch of some kind out of the object itself. Again, not an exact match, but the similarity is interesting enough to be noted.

STS-75 and Mercury-Redstone 1A were separated by 36 years on their mission clocks. Keep in mind also with the below, the objects were shot with different camera and technology that was separated by decades.

Possible Explanation?

After posting this case file, The Black Vault received quite a bit of feedback. However, one stuck out as a well thought out, and sourced, explanation for what this could be.  Special thanks to Jon Hunter for taking the time to write in:

Hello,

I just found your site, and I enjoy the extra level of analysis applied to these kind of stories, but I think key points in the story about Mercury photographs were missed.

While there certainly not many objects to be seen in space in November 1960, there were three objects that were right along the capsule’s flight path: the single-stage Redstone rocket that rode all the way up to space, the abort escape tower, and the retro rocket pack.

The reflected mission clock in the pictures gives the information we need to decide if either of these objects could be captured by a camera in the window. According to the Wikipedia article for Mercury 1A, the launch occurred at 16:15 UTC and the capsule landed at 16:30. This fits with the clock: it’s apparently 4:23 when the pictures were taken, or about 8 minutes into the mission. By this point the craft had already rotated 180 degrees away from its forward path, to point the heat shield and retro rockets forward. The nose was angled down 34 degrees. Look at the placement of the window on the sloped surface of the capsule: rotated 34 degrees down, that window would be facing back along the path of the flight, right in the direction the Redstone booster should be.

When the capsule separated from the rocket at T+2:24 minutes, it gained 4.6 m/s of velocity over the rocket, but at T+5:15 minutes the retro rockets provided -168 m/s of total change in velocity, allowing the booster to “catch up,” though on different arcs.

I think the final piece of the puzzle occurred at T+7:15 minutes. The craft detected atmospheric reentry and began a 10 degrees/sec roll for stability. That explains the shifting view of Earth in the window and why the object outside disappears from view between 266 and 268. Then in 269 it is in frame again, flaring. Between 266 and 269 the Redstone booster hit the atmosphere uncontrolled and the visible flare could be hot gases or some other atmospheric effect.

The Redstone booster seems to be the answer that makes the most sense. At 8 minutes into the mission, the window would be facing the area of space the booster would be, right at the time that the booster would be hitting the atmosphere and beginning its uncontrolled and fiery descent. Trying to spot the boosters (like the larger Atlas ones on later missions) was a part of the standard tasks Mercury astronauts tried to complete. It was important for learning about how easily astronauts could orient themselves and targets in space. It was very difficult, but it would have been easier on the short, suborbital flights of Mercury when the capsule rotated 180 degrees just a few minutes into the mission and separation between capsule and booster was relatively small.

I hope this offers a reasonable solution to the mystery, and I’d be interested to know if it makes sense to others.

OUMUAMUA, an interstellar object has caused quite a bit of speculation, a stir and captured the interest of many an Astrophile.

The worldwide web is rife with various reports of this oddly shaped object. Some even thought it to be an Unidentified Flying Object (UFO). Scientists are certain it’s not.

Oumuamua (Hawaiian term for scout) was discovered at the Haleakala Observation in Hawaii by Robert Weryk using Pan-STARRS 1.

This oddly shaped 400 meters long by about 40 meters wide object was classified as a hyperbolic asteroid.

It’s origin still puzzles the astronomy community. Some suggest that it came from a nearby star known as TYC4742-1027-1, whereas others think it came from the Kuiper Belt. The asteroid is moving at quite a speed that have astronomers scratch their heads even more to determine its origin.

Heading towards the Pegasus constellation; Oumuamua will be visible to us for a while longer, before disappearing.

It’s the first of its type that has entered our solar system.

Will there be similar occurrences? Is there an unexplored part of the cosmos with unusual ‘geology’ that we have not yet discovered?

Additional Information

The following was published by NASA on November 20, 2017. 

Astronomers recently scrambled to observe an intriguing asteroid that zipped through the solar system on a steep trajectory from interstellar space—the first confirmed object from another star. 

Now, new data reveal the interstellar interloper to be a rocky, cigar-shaped object with a somewhat reddish hue. The asteroid, named ‘Oumuamua by its discoverers, is up to one-quarter mile (400 meters) long and highly-elongated—perhaps 10 times as long as it is wide. That aspect ratio is greater than that of any asteroid or comet observed in our solar system to date. While its elongated shape is quite surprising, and unlike asteroids seen in our solar system, it may provide new clues into how other solar systems formed.

The observations and analyses were funded in part by NASA and appear in the Nov. 20 issue of the journal Nature. They suggest this unusual object had been wandering through the Milky Way, unattached to any star system, for hundreds of millions of years before its chance encounter with our star system.

“For decades we’ve theorized that such interstellar objects are out there, and now – for the first time – we have direct evidence they exist,” said Thomas Zurbuchen, associate administrator for NASA’s Science Mission Directorate in Washington. “This history-making discovery is opening a new window to study formation of solar systems beyond our own.” 

Immediately after its discovery, telescopes around the world, including ESO’s Very Large Telescope in Chile and other observatories around the world were called into action to measure the object’s orbit, brightness and color. Urgency for viewing from ground-based telescopes was vital to get the best data. 

Combining the images from the FORS instrument on the ESO telescope using four different filters with those of other large telescopes, a team of astronomers led by Karen Meech of the Institute for Astronomy in Hawaii found that ‘Oumuamua varies in brightness by a factor of ten as it spins on its axis every 7.3 hours. No known asteroid or comet from our solar system varies so widely in brightness, with such a large ratio between length and width. The most elongated objects we have seen to date are no more than three times longer than they are wide.   

“This unusually big variation in brightness means that the object is highly elongated: about ten times as long as it is wide, with a complex, convoluted shape,” said Meech. We also found that it had a reddish color, similar to objects in the outer solar system, and confirmed that it is completely inert, without the faintest hint of dust around it.”

These properties suggest that ‘Oumuamua is dense, comprised of rock and possibly metals, has no water or ice, and that its surface was reddened due to the effects of irradiation from cosmic rays over hundreds of millions of years. 

A few large ground-based telescopes continue to track the asteroid, though it’s rapidly fading as it recedes from our planet. Two of NASA’s space telescopes (Hubble and Spitzer) are tracking the object the week of Nov. 20. As of Nov. 20, ‘Oumuamua is travelling about 85,700 miles per hour (38.3 kilometers per second) relative to the Sun. Its location is approximately 124 million miles (200 million kilometers) from Earth — the distance between Mars and Jupiter – though its outbound path is about 20 degrees above the plane of planets that orbit the Sun. The object passed Mars’s orbit around Nov. 1 and will pass Jupiter’s orbit in May of 2018. It will travel beyond Saturn’s orbit in January 2019; as it leaves our solar system, ‘Oumuamua will head for the constellation Pegasus.

Observations from large ground-based telescopes will continue until the object becomes too faint to be detected, sometime after mid-December. NASA’s Center for Near-Earth Object Studies (CNEOS) continues to take all available tracking measurements to refine the trajectory of 1I/2017 U1 as it exits our solar system. 

This remarkable object was discovered Oct. 19 by the University of Hawaii’s Pan-STARRS1 telescope, funded by NASA’s Near-Earth Object Observations(NEOO) Program, which finds and tracks asteroids and comets in Earth’s neighborhood. NASA Planetary Defense Officer Lindley Johnson said, “We are fortunate that our sky survey telescope was looking in the right place at the right time to capture this historic moment. This serendipitous discovery is bonus science enabled by NASA’s efforts to find, track and characterize near-Earth objects that could potentially pose a threat to our planet.”  

Preliminary orbital calculations suggest that the object came from the approximate direction of the bright star Vega, in the northern constellation of Lyra. However, it took so long for the interstellar object to make the journey – even at the speed of about 59,000 miles per hour (26.4 kilometers per second) — that Vega was not near that position when the asteroid was there about 300,000 years ago. 

While originally classified as a comet, observations from ESO and elsewhere revealed no signs of cometary activity after it slingshotted past the Sun on Sept. 9 at a blistering speed of 196,000 miles per hour (87.3 kilometers per second). 

The object has since been reclassified as interstellar asteroid 1I/2017 U1 by the International Astronomical Union (IAU), which is responsible for granting official names to bodies in the solar system and beyond. In addition to the technical name, the Pan-STARRS team dubbed it ‘Oumuamua (pronounced oh MOO-uh MOO-uh), which is Hawaiian for “a messenger from afar arriving first.” 

Astronomers estimate that an interstellar asteroid similar to ‘Oumuamua passes through the inner solar system about once per year, but they are faint and hard to spot and have been missed until now. It is only recently that survey telescopes, such as Pan-STARRS, are powerful enough to have a chance to discover them. 

“What a fascinating discovery this is!” said Paul Chodas, manager of the Center for Near-Earth Object Studies at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, California. “It’s a strange visitor from a faraway star system, shaped like nothing we’ve ever seen in our own solar system neighborhood.”

One particular upload, was from a NASA Ames consultant, which had the following description:

“On Sol 1450 Curiosity opened eyes wide and captured the entirety of the huge ruin mounds on either side of it as is was heading out of the main complex. This is perhaps the largest and clearest set of images taken within the area. The large one consists of 99 individual frames, the lower 53, for a total of 152 images compiled into this huge beautiful and totally anomalous gigapan full of artifacts. You can literally spend days scrutinizing closely and still not see everything within.”

One Anonymous Black Vault user submitted a find in this rather large array of photos.  He claims the array captured plant life or a tree on Mars, and NASA released it with the rest of the images not realizing.

Was this a mistake and does this really capture a tree or plant life on the Martian surface? Or is this simply a glitch or a trick of light and shadows?

LookNowTV Presents a NEW Nasa UFO Discovery! Nasa released new (4K) FOOTAGE and like most UFO related channels, I went over to check it all out! I saw a lot of reflections and of course, stunningly beautiful views from space.

In March of 2016, a “viral” story resurfaced about a UFO in a NASA photograph, that was mysteriously ‘deleted’ from NASA’s website.  After investigation, the original link that showed the photograph in question was broken, it is likely due to the fact that the database simply was moved. The new source, once located, verifies the photograph is still available for download.  So, the story about it being “deleted” is largely untrue.

However, what IS true, is the fact that the photograph does show an unidentified “formation” of UFOs, whatever they may be. This page was created to help make sense of a largely incorrect story being circulated.

What are we looking at?

The photograph in question, which is verified as a genuine NASA photograph, has an unexplained formation of UFOs in the frame. Above, you will find the zoomed in photograph, with no editing other than increasing the size / zooming in.

Other Anomalous Objects?

Upon investigation, there are other POSSIBLE anomalous objects, in the same frame. Although potentially just satellites, space debris or photographic artifacts caused by a multitude of factors – they should be noted:

Why are these important? Let’s say the original anomalous artifact is easily explained, like a satellite or other space debris that is floating around. On Earth, a long exposure of a moving object results in a long streak of light, vs. what appears to be multiple lights. Let’s just say this photograph was the result of multiple photos laid on top of each other, to bring out detail (which sometimes, NASA does of other planetary objects) well, these additional object prove that there is no movement on the camera, long exposure or multiple photos laid on top of each other. Because, if any of the aforementioned were true, you’d have the same effect on all of these, as you did the original object we are zooming in on.

What are we looking at?

In this photo from the surface of Mars, there is a mysterious and unknown looking creature or plant life on the wall of a rocky outcrop. Or maybe just an illusion and a trick of our eyes.

What exactly is it?

Although many photos on Mars are said to have “objects” like a squirrel, Nazi helmet, or Sasquatch, many are explained away by pareidolia, the psychological phenomena of seeing something that isn’t, like let’s say, a horse in a wisp of clouds. But could this one be different?

It appears to have a different shade of color than the surrounding rocks, indicating maybe it is something unlike the surrounding rocks.

What are we looking at?: In this photograph, beamed back from the surface of Mars, we can see an object that appears to look like a pyramid. Although usually objects seen on Mars are more or less easily dismissed as pareidolia (seeing things in clouds or photos that aren’t really there) by the nature of what is allegedly in the photograph (ie: a Nazi helmet, a squirrel, or Bigfoot have all been ‘seen on Mars’), this is a bit different. There really isn’t much to mistake in the photo, as it appears to genuinely show a pyramid, which are unnatural.

Background on the Curiosity Mission:

With its rover named Curiosity, Mars Science Laboratory mission is part of NASA’s Mars Exploration Program, a long-term effort of robotic exploration of the red planet. Curiosity was designed to assess whether Mars ever had an environment able to support small life forms called microbes. In other words, its mission is to determine the planet’s “habitability.”

Mars Science Laboratory will study Mars’ habitability

To find out, the rover carries the biggest, most advanced suite of instruments for scientific studies ever sent to the martian surface. The rover will analyze samples scooped from the soil and drilled from rocks. The record of the planet’s climate and geology is essentially “written in the rocks and soil” — in their formation, structure, and chemical composition. The rover’s onboard laboratory will study rocks, soils, and the local geologic setting in order to detect chemical building blocks of life (e.g., forms of carbon) on Mars and will assess what the martian environment was like in the past.

Mars Science Laboratory relies on innovative technologies

Mars Science Laboratory will rely on new technological innovations, especially for landing. The spacecraft descended on a parachute and then, during the final seconds prior to landing, lowered the upright rover on a tether to the surface, much like a sky crane. Now on the surface, the rover will be able to roll over obstacles up to 75 centimeters (29 inches) high and travel up to 90 meters (295 feet) per hour. On average, the rover is expected to travel about 30 meters (98 feet) per hour, based on power levels, slippage, steepness of the terrain, visibility, and other variables.

The rover carries a radioisotope power system that generates electricity from the heat of plutonium’s radioactive decay. This power source gives the mission an operating lifespan on Mars’ surface of a full martian year (687 Earth days) or more, while also providing significantly greater mobility and operational flexibility, enhanced science payload capability, and exploration of a much larger range of latitudes and altitudes than was possible on previous missions to Mars.

Arriving at Mars at 10:32 p.m. PDT on Aug. 5, 2012 (1:32 a.m. EDT on Aug. 6, 2012), Mars Science Laboratory will serve as an entrée to the next decade of Mars exploration. It represents a huge step in Mars surface science and exploration capability because it will:
demonstrate the ability to land a very large, heavy rover to the surface of Mars (which could be used for a future Mars Sample Return mission that would collect rocks and soils and send them back to Earth for laboratory analysis)

• demonstrate the ability to land more precisely in a 20-kilometer (12.4-mile) landing circle
• demonstrate long-range mobility on the surface of the red planet (5-20 kilometers or about 3 to 12 miles) for the collection of more diverse samples and studies.

The image, with a resolution of 1,400 feet (410 meters) per pixel, was taken on June 9, 2015.

What are we looking at?: While taking a photo of the dwarf planet Ceres, NASA’s DAWN spacecraft captured these mysterious and unexplained lights on the surface.

Of course, this could easily be a reflection on ice of something rather mundane, but, NASA scientists have yet to explain whatever it is these lights are. Usually, ice reflections could be somewhat easily proven, however it can not in this case.

Ceres Spots Continue to Mystify in Latest Dawn Images

The closer we get to Ceres, the more intriguing the distant dwarf planet becomes. New images of Ceres from NASA’s Dawn spacecraft provide more clues about its mysterious bright spots, and also reveal a pyramid-shaped peak towering over a relatively flat landscape.

“The surface of Ceres has revealed many interesting and unique features. For example, icy moons in the outer solar system have craters with central pits, but on Ceres central pits in large craters are much more common. These and other features will allow us to understand the inner structure of Ceres that we cannot sense directly,” said Carol Raymond, deputy principal investigator for the Dawn mission, based at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.

Dawn has been studying the dwarf planet in detail from its second mapping orbit, which is 2,700 miles (4,400 kilometers) above Ceres. A new view of its intriguing bright spots, located in a crater about 55 miles (90 kilometers) across, shows even more small spots in the crater than were previously visible.

At least eight spots can be seen next to the largest bright area, which scientists think is approximately 6 miles (9 kilometers) wide. A highly reflective material is responsible for these spots — ice and salt are leading possibilities, but scientists are considering other options, too.

Dawn’s visible and infrared mapping spectrometer allows scientists to identify specific minerals present on Ceres by looking at how light is reflected. Each mineral reflects the range of visible and infrared-light wavelengths in a unique way, and this signature helps scientists determine the components of Ceres. So, as the spacecraft continues to send back more images and data, scientists will learn more about the mystery bright spots.

In addition to the bright spots, the latest images also show a mountain with steep slopes protruding from a relatively smooth area of the dwarf planet’s surface. The structure rises about 3 miles (5 kilometers) above the surface.

Ceres also has numerous craters of varying sizes, many of which have central peaks. There is ample evidence of past activity on the surface, including flows, landslides and collapsed structures. It seems that Ceres shows more remnants of activity than the protoplanet Vesta, which Dawn studied intensively for 14 months in 2011 and 2012.

Dawn is the first mission to visit a dwarf planet, and the first to orbit two distinct targets in our solar system. It arrived at Ceres, the largest object in the main asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, on March 6, 2015.

Dawn will remain in its current altitude until June 30, continuing to take images and spectra of Ceres in orbits of about three days each. It then will move into its next orbit at an altitude of 900 miles (1,450 kilometers), arriving in early August.

Dawn’s mission is managed by JPL for NASA’s Science Mission Directorate in Washington. Dawn is a project of the directorate’s Discovery Program, managed by NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. UCLA is responsible for overall Dawn mission science. Orbital ATK Inc., in Dulles, Virginia, designed and built the spacecraft. Bright Spots and Color Differences Revealed on Ceres

Scientists from NASA’s Dawn mission unveiled new images from the spacecraft’s lowest orbit at Ceres, including highly anticipated views of Occator Crater, at the 47th annual Lunar and Planetary Science Conference in The Woodlands, Texas, on Tuesday.

Occator Crater, measuring 57 miles (92 kilometers) across and 2.5 miles (4 kilometers) deep, contains the brightest area on Ceres, the dwarf planet that Dawn has explored since early 2015. The latest images, taken from 240 miles (385 kilometers) above the surface of Ceres, reveal a dome in a smooth-walled pit in the bright center of the crater. Numerous linear features and fractures crisscross the top and flanks of this dome.  Prominent fractures also surround the dome and run through smaller, bright regions found within the crater.

“Before Dawn began its intensive observations of Ceres last year, Occator Crater looked to be one large bright area. Now, with the latest close views, we can see complex features that provide new mysteries to investigate,” said Ralf Jaumann, planetary scientist and Dawn co-investigator at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Berlin. “The intricate geometry of the crater interior suggests geologic activity in the recent past, but we will need to complete detailed geologic mapping of the crater in order to test hypotheses for its formation.”

Color Differences

The team also released an enhanced color map of the surface of Ceres, highlighting the diversity of surface materials and their relationships to surface morphology. Scientists have been studying the shapes of craters and their distribution with great interest. Ceres does not have as many large impact basins as scientists expected, but the number of smaller craters generally matches their predictions. The blue material highlighted in the color map is related to flows, smooth plains and mountains, which appear to be very young surface features.

“Although impact processes dominate the surface geology on Ceres, we have identified specific color variations on the surface indicating material alterations that are due to a complex interaction of the impact process and the subsurface composition,” Jaumann said. “Additionally, this gives evidence for a subsurface layer enriched in ice and volatiles.”

Counting Neutrons

Data relevant to the possibility of subsurface ice is also emerging from Dawn’s Gamma Ray and Neutron Detector (GRaND), which began acquiring its primary data set in December. Neutrons and gamma rays produced by cosmic ray interactions with surface materials provide a fingerprint of Ceres’ chemical makeup.  The measurements are sensitive to elemental composition of the topmost yard (meter) of the regolith.

In Dawn’s lowest-altitude orbit, the instrument has detected fewer neutrons near the poles of Ceres than at the equator, which indicates increased hydrogen concentration at high latitudes. As hydrogen is a principal constituent of water, water ice could be present close to the surface in polar regions.

“Our analyses will test a longstanding prediction that water ice can survive just beneath Ceres’ cold, high-latitude surface for billions of years,” said Tom Prettyman, the lead for GRaND and Dawn co-investigator at the Planetary Science Institute, Tucson, Arizona.

The Mystery of Haulani Crater

But the subsurface does not have the same composition all over Ceres, according to data from the visible and infrared mapping spectrometer (VIR), a device that looks at how various wavelengths of sunlight are reflected by the surface, allowing scientists to identify minerals.

Haulani Crater in particular is an intriguing example of how diverse Ceres is in terms of its surface material composition. This irregularly-shaped crater, with its striking bright streaks of material, shows a different proportion of surface materials than its surroundings when viewed with the VIR instrument. While the surface of Ceres is mostly made of a mixture of materials containing carbonates and phyllosilicates, their relative proportion varies across the surface.

“False-color images of Haulani show that material excavated by an impact is different than the general surface composition of Ceres. The diversity of materials implies either that there is a mixed layer underneath, or that the impact itself changed the properties of the materials,” said Maria Cristina de Sanctis, the VIR instrument lead scientist, based at the National Institute of Astrophysics, Rome.

Water at Oxo

Dawn scientists also reported in an LPSC scientific session that the VIR instrument has detected water at Oxo Crater, a young, 6-mile-wide (9-kilometer-wide) feature in Ceres’ northern hemisphere. This water could be bound up in minerals or, alternatively, it could take the form of ice.

Jean-Philippe Combe of the Bear Fight Institute, Winthrop, Washington, said that this water-bearing material could have been exposed during a landslide or an impact — perhaps even a combination of the two events.

Oxo is the only place on Ceres where water has been detected at the surface so far. Dawn will continue to observe this area.

The Big Picture

Dawn made history last year as the first mission to reach a dwarf planet, and the first to orbit two distinct extraterrestrial targets — both of them in the main asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. The mission conducted extensive observations of Vesta during its 14-month orbit there in 2011-2012.

“We’re excited to unveil these beautiful new images, especially Occator, which illustrate the complexity of the processes shaping Ceres’ surface. Now that we can see Ceres’ enigmatic bright spots, surface minerals and morphology in high resolution, we’re busy working to figure out what processes shaped this unique dwarf planet. Giant UFO Caught By Space Station NASA Cam Hovering Over Earth,
UFO Researcher Claims In New Video

A giant UFO was sighted hovering high above Earth — but within the planet’s atmosphere — by a NASA camera positioned on the International Space Station, according to a prominent online UFO researcher, who revealed his latest purported discovery in a new video posted Tuesday.

The UFO — if indeed it is an unidentified object and not simply a mistakenly identified object — is seen in the video apparently floating above a thick layer of cloud cover, but separated from any nearby clouds. In the video, Scott C. Waring of the popular UFO blog UFO Sightings Daily, says that the separation is what leads him to believe that the object is large “cigar shaped” craft of some kind.

“Of all the clouds, this object is floating above the clouds,” Waring says in his narration to the new video, which can be viewed on this page, above. “It’s even higher than the clouds, and it’s huge. Look at the size of that!”

Indeed, the object would appear to be massive to show up as prominently as it does in a photo taken from the Space Station, which orbits about 250 miles above the planet’s surface.

Clouds typically float at a maximum altitude of around 20,000 feet, or a little less than four miles above sea level. The object in the NASA feed image appears to have some degree of distance between the top cloud layer and its own position.

But even a mile or two of distance would place it in the lower section of the Earth’s atmosphere, given that the thickest section of the atmosphere, where about 80 percent of the atmosphere’s density is concentrated, extends about 10 miles up.

The atmosphere itself continues to thin out rapidly as it reaches upward by some estimates as much as 300 miles. But the alleged UFO in Waring’s video, given its massive size, would have been clearly visible from Earth, the same way that a commercial airliner flying between six and seven miles high can be easily seen with the naked eye.

Whether Waring’s sighting on the NASA space station feed coincided with any reports of a UFO sighting from points around the world, he does not say.

The live NASA Earth feed from the space station camera can be viewed at this link, for those who wish to hunt for UFOs on their own. Numerous UFO sightings have resulted from scrutiny of the space station online video feeds, though NASA has not commented on any of them.

A veteran NASA employee says he saw a nine-foot-tall alien hitch a ride on the space shuttle – and watched the creature have a quiet chat with astronauts when it thought  no one was looking.

UFO sites have seized on this as CONCLUSIVE EVIDENCE that there is a vast, global conspiracy where our leaders are in league with aliens.

Others are less sure.

Clark C. McClelland makes the claim in a video recently unearthed by paranormal news site Inquisitr.

He claims to have worked at NASA for 35 years, including work on the Apollo missions – and in his favour, no one has stepped forward to say he isn’t.

There’s also a picture of him actually ON the Space Shuttle, which is conclusive enough for the UFO sites.

McClelland says he was monitoring a Space Shuttle mission from Kennedy Space Centre when he saw something he wasn’t meant to – namely a gangly, slender alien chatting away with two astronauts in the Space Shuttle’s payload bay.

He also saw an alien ship ‘parked’ nearby.

Disclaimer: many people think McLelland is nuts.

Second disclaimer: UFO fans believe, of course, that this first disclaimer is disinformation, spread by the Men in Black.

McLelland says, ‘I know an ET and Alien craft when I see them.

‘Aliens are here on Earth, they walk among us. They may have been implanted into our various Earth governments.

In SUPPORT of MY FRIEND, Courageous, US NASA ASTRONAUT, Edgar Mitchell, Apollo 14.

I, Clark C. McClelland, former ScO, Space Shuttle Fleet, personally observed an 8 to 9 foot tall ET on my 27 inch video monitors while on duty in the Kennedy Space Center, Launch Control Center (LCC). The ET was standing upright in the Space Shuttle Payload Bay having a discussion with TWO tethered US NASA Astronauts. I also observed on my monitors, the spacecraft of the ET as it was in a stabilized, safe orbit to the rear of the Space Shuttle main engine pods. I observed this incident for about one minute and seven seconds. Plenty of time to memorize all that I was observing. IT WAS AN ET and Alien Star Ship!

To all who have faith in ME, I present you with this artists concept (See on top) of what I saw many years ago at KSC. It was a tall creature, about 8 to 9 feet tall. It had a humanoid body shape with two arms, two hands, two legs, two feet, a slim torso and a normal size head for its size. The color of its skin I could not determine. It appeared to have two what appeared to be eyes, but it was not detailed enough for any other comments.

How did it communicate? I have no idea. It did move its arms a lot. Almost like giving instructions! I heard no voice communications. The helmet was not as large as our two NASA Astronauts, and had a viewport to look forward. It had a small, perhaps a communication device, attached only to the right side of the helmet!

I saw no oxygen tank(s). It had a wide belt like wrapping around it.. It did not appear to be tethered as the two Astronauts were to the sides of the shuttle structure. I observed nothing that appeared to be a weapon. The time of this amazing scene was one minute and seven seconds, I timed it on my Astronaut chronograph watch.

A friend of mine later contacted me and said that this person had also observed an 8 to 9 foot tall ET INSIDE the SPACE SHUTTLE CREW COMPARTMENT! Yes, inside OUR Shuttle! BOTH missions were DoD (Pentagon) TOP SECRET (TS) encounters!

With my verifiable background, there is no Federal Government Agency that can say I am crazy.

I have been researching the Moon and Mars for many years.  It has already been proven that NASA covers strange areas with blurry blocks or out of focus images.  There are also numerous  X  marking on the Moon’s surface.  At first I thought it was markings on the film but this is not the case.

 These  X  markings are on the surface all have a Three-D effect.  I am not sure what the reason is for these markings but we should find out in the near future.  The secret is finding the best Moon and Mars web site from NASA and other sources.  Even Google Mars and Moon are great sources.  Having the patience to scan a very hi definition image is also the secret.

Some images may take hours to scan and investigate.  There are hundreds of objects that I have discovered but I only keep the best images that really look like something alien.

The top header image is the moon base I discovered on the Moon.  The date was  9-14-12 when I found this very strange image.  If you download the free google earth , you can then go to google Mars and the Moon.

What are we looking at? A mysterious object has been photographed by the spacecraft Rosetta, and experts have yet been able to give an explanation.

Sitting on the surface of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, is an object that many truth-seekers say, does not belong. When compared to the rocky outcrops that surround it, there appears to be no similarity, despite being in the same light casting the same shadows at the same angle.

This celestial anomaly even shows signs that the it is reflecting the sunlight back into Rosetta’s camera lens, very much like a metallic object would.

The photograph was taken on September 10th, and released by the European Space Agency (ESA). It’s caption reads:

Could this be an artificial structure caught on camera?  Or, is it just like NASA wants us to believe about the “Face on Mars,” a trick of lights and shadows?

A member of The Black Vault, MFranklin, decided to take the case file, and analyze the highest resolution photo available. His analysis was uploaded to the image gallery, and can be downloaded (higher resolution) below. It appears that the unknown object is floating above the surface of the comet.

Of course, it could be a trick of lights and shadows.

“I believe that these extraterrestrial vehicles and their crews are visiting this planet from other planets, which are a little more technically advanced than we are on Earth. I feel that we need to have a top level, coordinated program to scientifically collect and analyze data from all over the Earth concerning any type of encounter, and to determine how best to interfere with these visitors in a friendly fashion. We may first have to show them that we have learned how to resolve our problems by peaceful means rather than warfare, before we are accepted as fully qualified universal team members. Their acceptance will have tremendous possibilities of advancing our world in all areas. Certainly then it would seem that the U.N. has a vested interest in handling the subject quickly and properly. I should point out that I am not an experienced UFO professional researcher – I have not as yet had the privilege of flying a UFO nor of meeting the crew of one. However, I do feel that I am somewhat qualified to discuss them, since I have been into the fringes of the vast areas of which they travel. Also, I did have occasion in 1951 to have two days of observation of many flights of them, of different sizes flying in fighter formation, generally from west to east over Europe. They were at a higher altitude than we could reach with our jet fighters….If the U.N. agrees to pursue this project and lend the credibility to it, perhaps many more well qualified people will agree to step forth and provide help and information.”

The above message was given to the U.N. by Astronaut Gordon L. Cooper, one of America’s original seven Mercury Astronauts. Cooper orbited the Earth for a record 34 hour, 22 orbit flight in the spacecraft ‘Faith 7’, in May of 1963. He has been outspoken about the need for an open inquiry into UFOs – based on his own personal experience of sighting UFOs in space and the testimony of other Mercury, Gemini and Apollo Astronauts.

GORDON COOPER & UFOs: AN ASTRONAUT SPEAKS OUT

“One of the few individuals whose prominence is beyond question has, however, over the past few months, dared to open his mouth and challenge the status quo. Gordon Cooper was one of America’s original astronauts. He helped pioneer this country’s space exploration efforts when, aboard a tiny space capsule known as Mercury [Faith] 7, Cooper orbited the Earth for 34 hours, proving that man could live outside our atmosphere for prolonged periods. His patriotism, bravery and respectability go without saying… Cooper has recently made several public pronouncements concerning his strong belief in UFOs. While a guest on the Merv Griffin Show, Cooper shocked the viewing audiences by speaking for over five minutes on a topic that was only within the past few years often considered too bizarre for polite conversation. But there were some things that Cooper wouldn’t even discuss on the air in front of the curious multitudes. Luckily Lee Spiegel is a personal friend of Gordon Cooper. They have conferred on several occasions, and while in the company of the man who is bound and determined to crack the ‘Cosmic Watergate’ which he is convinced exists within the higher echelon of government, the former space traveler is more than happy to talk about his UFO experiences – and they are many. In the early 1950s, Cooper was assigned to a jet fighter group in Germany.

While stationed there, he remembers very vividly the week an entire formation of circular objects passed over the Air Base on almost a daily routine. ‘We never could get close enough to pin them down, but they were round in shape and very metallic looking,’ Cooper points out. UFOs were to continue to haunt him when the Air Force Colonel was transferred several years later to Edwards Air Force Base Flight Test Center in the California desert. What happened one afternoon while he was on duty at this military base is evidence enough that the government definitely does keep a lot of secrets when it comes to UFOs! The incident took place in the late 1950s, either 1957 or 1958 – as Cooper can best recall; and to this day, the photographic evidence of an actual UFO touching down upon the Earth is being kept under wraps. During this period, Cooper was a Project Manager at Edwards Air Force Base, just three or four years before entering America’s space program. After lunch this particular day, Cooper had assigned a team of photographers to an area of the vast dry lake beds near Edwards. In a taped interview with UFOlogist Lee Spiegel, the former Astronaut disclosed that while the crew was out there, they spotted a strange-looking craft above the lake bed, and they began taking films of it. Cooper says the object was very definitely ‘hovering above the ground. And then it slowly came down and sat on the lake bed for a few minutes.’ All during this time the motion picture cameras were filming away. ‘There were varied estimates by the cameramen on what the actual size of the object was,’ Cooper confesses, ‘but they all agreed that it was at least the size of a vehicle that would carry normal-sized people in it.’ Col. Cooper was not fortunate enough to be outside at the time of this incredible encounter, but he did see the films as soon as they were rushed through the development process. ‘It was a typical circular-shaped UFO,’ he recollects. ‘Not too many people saw it, because it took off at quite a sharp angle and just climbed straight on out of sight!’ Cooper admits he didn’t take any kind of poll to determine who had seen the craft, ‘because there were always strange things flying around in the air over Edwards.’ This is a statement Lee Spiegel was able to verify through his own research efforts, having obtained closely guarded tapes of conversations between military pilots circling the base and their commanding officers in the flight tower, tracking the presence of unknown objects. ‘People just didn’t ask a lot of questions about things they saw and couldn’t understand,’ notes Cooper, who adds that it was a lot simpler to look the other way, shrug one’s shoulders, and chalk up what had been seen to ‘just another experimental aircraft that must have been developed at another area of the air base.’ But what about the photographic proof – the motion picture footage – that was taken? ‘I think it was definitely a UFO,’ Cooper states, as he makes no bones about it. ‘However, where it (the object) came from and who was in it is hard to determine, because it didn’t stay around long enough to discuss the matter – there wasn’t even time to send out a welcoming committee!’ After he reviewed the film at least a dozen times, the footage was quickly forwarded to Washington. Cooper no doubt expected to get a reply in a few weeks’ time as to what his men had seen and photographed, but there was no word, and the movie *vanished* – never to surface again…. On coast-to-coast television, Cooper recently made a blockbuster statement that had the telephone lines tied up the next day, as viewers telephoned the stations which carried the syndicated Merv Griffin Show, anxious to find out if their ears had been playing tricks on them the night before. Toward the end of the talk-show host’s interview with the former Astronaut, Merv broke into a secretive tone of voice right on the air, and aimed a hundred-thousand-dollar question at his guest:

‘There is a story going around, Gordon, that a spaceship did land in middle America and there were occupants, and members of our government were able to keep one of the occupants alive for a period of time. They’ve seen the metal of the aircraft and they know what the people look like – is that a credible story?’ For all intents and purposes Cooper should have laughed for assuredly such a speculative story belongs in the category of science fiction or space fantasy. But Gordon Cooper kept a straight face when he replied: ‘I think it’s fairly credible. I would like to see the time when all qualified people could really work together to properly investigate these stories and either refute or prove them.’ The bombshell had been dropped. Cooper went on to say that from the various reports of UFO contacts and abductions he had been privy to, he was convinced that the occupants of this crashed UFO were ‘probably not that different from what we are,’ – that they are almost totally humanoid (i.e., have two arms, two legs, a torso and readily identifiable facial features) in appearance. Taken aback by what Cooper had said over the national airwaves, Lee Spiegel telephoned Cooper’s office the following morning and managed to get past his private secretary, though others in the media were getting the cold shoulder. ‘Cooper admitted to me that he could have revealed more on the air, but he decided not to play his entire hand because he felt certain that some ‘official eyebrows were going to get raised’.'”

What are we looking at? Outside the window during a photograph taken by the crew of STS-88, is a mysterious unidentified object.  Could this be space junk?  The famed Black Knight Satellite?

At about 24 minutes into his recording, multiple mysterious objects appears to be flying above the sun — which shocked even him. Well versed in astronomy, he could not quite pin point what these objects were.

I have edited the video to only the UFO sighting and a little beyond to give some context.  Note, when the video starts, he comments that the object “is huge”. He is only referencing the sunspot. Keep watching for the UFO that will appear a few seconds later.

I’m not convinced the mountain shape has actually changed, as that could be observed with telescopes. I’m sure the actual images of Area 51 are much different than what we see on Google Earth imagery.

Note: The above report was written by Photo Analyst David Mason. UFOs Northwest thanks him for this report. Through additional research I found that the same “artificial cloud” appears on a Google Earth image taken on June 28, 2010. The fact that the same cloud shows up on two individual Google Earth images taken nearly a year apart adds gravity that the cloud is not real and is a fabrication. The question is: What is the cloud concealing? Is it concealing a crash? As Dave Mason points out the sun doesn’t shine from the north in the northern hemisphere. The cloud measures two miles north to south and about one mile east to west.

Weather Conditions: It is not known the time that the images were taken. On Mar 13, 2011 a check of weather at Nellis Air Force Base showed that skies were clear for most hours of the day. There were a few clouds measured at 17,000 feet for some hours. Some clouds were first reported at 2 PM, but the next clouds were not seen until 6 PM. The cloud in the above photos probably is much lower than 17,000 feet. On June 28, 2010 a few clouds were measured at 10,000 feet later in the day. Skies were totally clear for most hours. On June 28, 2010 the clouds did not appear until around 6 PM. Satellite photos are generally taken earlier in the day when the sun angle is higher.

Bizarre UFO Spotted By Robot On Surface Of MARS

A UFO has been caught on camera – by a robot on MARS.

The bizarre celestial object, which looks like a spacecraft complete with vapour trail, was photographed by an unmanned Nasa rover at work on the surface of the Red Planet.

The weird shape can be seen in a video uploaded to YouTube by Ufologist Streetcap1 under the heading Mars ufo?

Some internet users offered potential explanations for the UFO.

Nix Nightbird commented: “It’s something on the lens of the rover camera.

“Ice, dust, whatever.”

Brad Parker said: “That’s obviously just a weather balloon.”

Meanwhile, Andrew Botha simply said: “Asteriod.”

What are we looking at? What appears to be multiple cylindrical shaped objects were photographed by the Apollo 9 astronauts while photographing the moon.  Plain and simple, if these are actual “objects” they are HUGE by the looks of it.  What could they be? They do not appear to be artifacts on the film/photo itself.  Add your feedback below.

The following UFO was seen, while collecting data on 7/19/12, from the Sun.  The still image will show you the object in question.  I then created a 1 day time lapse video showing the object move. It’s quick, and shows at 10 seconds, but clearly shows it was not a single frame glitch, that is shows in multiple frames, and presumably moves from screen right to screen left at a downward angle.
