Doorway on Mars or Just An Illusion? Mysterious Mars Photo Intrigues Social Media

These photographs appeared on social media outlets Twitter and Reddit and began creating a stir on May 10, 2022..

There are two photographs that captured a mysterious area that some are saying is manufactured (like a doorway) while others argue it is just an illusion.

The photographs were taken by NASA’s Mars rover Curiosity on Sol 3466, or May 7, 2022.  They are below for analysis, and are the highest resolution photographs available.

The first photograph was taken by Mast Camera (Mastcam) onboard NASA’s Mars rover Curiosity on Sol 3466 (2022-05-07 07:58:16 UTC).

The second photograph was taken by MAST_RIGHT onboard NASA’s Mars rover Curiosity on Sol 3466 (2022-05-07T07:57:46.000Z).
