Background

On August 29, 2017, a mutilated cow was found in Naselle, Washington. On September 6, 2017, the story was published in the Capital Press.
Heifer, bull mysteriously killed in SW Washington

By NICK NIKKILA, EO Media Group, Sep 6, 2017

NASELLE, Wash. — Two cattle killings and mutilations have been discovered recently in rural Southwest Washington.

On Aug. 29 Deep River resident Warren Anderson found one of his heifers had been killed and its tongue and heart cut out. The killing occurred within 120 yards of his parents’ house in Naselle, Wash., where Anderson has been pasturing a small herd of beef cattle. Anderson believes the 8-month-old Angus-Hereford cross may have been killed sometime the previous evening.

“I was over here Sunday and it hadn’t been done then, unless it was done Sunday evening. It looked pretty fresh on Tuesday, so I’m thinking it was killed Monday evening,” Anderson said.

On Aug. 19, Grays River resident Dan Zimmerman discovered the carcass of a young bull he was pasturing in a field. Its tongue had also been removed. The young bull was found lying in the fenced field not far from State Route 4.

This is the second time in two years this has occurred to one of his cattle, Zimmerman said.

“Both times, the animal’s tongue had been removed,” he said. “The first time, it occurred in September, around the time of the equinox.”

Anderson reported the killing of his heifer to the Pacific County Sheriff’s Office and a deputy responded to the scene.

However, by Sept. 1 the incident report had not yet been completed and, as a result, the office was unable to comment on the cause of death.

Anderson said he believes the heifer had been shot and the bullet removed. Zimmerman said he did not know what caused his bull’s death.

The Investigation

by John Greenewald, Jr., The Black Vault / TBV Investigations

Influenced by my interview with retired police officer Lt. Tim McMillan, I looked up some cases I could investigate through state level “Sunshine Laws.” This was one of the first cases I found, and decided to take a stab at it.

I believe after seeing the documents, it is clear that this was someone who came onto the property, shot the cow, and decided they wanted to cut out part of the bovine’s insides. However, this was a great lesson to see how the state level laws work, and what you can get.

After filing the records request to the Pacific County Public Records Center, I received the police documents regarding the case, along with the original 911 calls. I decided to redact myself some additional information, including personal addresses and phone numbers. I felt despite it being public record, as a courtesy to the ranch owner, I would not include that.

Conclusion

I believe after reading the police report, it can be determined this was not an anomalous event, but rather someone who went on the property and shot the cow, then decided to mutilate it, for whatever reason. Although the bullet wound was referenced at the end of the newspaper article, this was a bit of a test to see how much can be obtained via a state level request. Despite no anomalous evidence, this was a good lesson in how it all works! I have a feeling there will be much more to come in regards to these cases.

Background

A calf was found mutilated in the southern (inside) rim of a 33 ft. circle of dirt on October 2007 in Depuyer, Montana. The dirt was hydrophobic, and the stubble inside the circle was flattened. The rancher reported he found the calf the morning after an evening of rain and snow. The ground around the circle was muddy, making walking difficult. However, the dirt inside the circle was firm. The soil seemed to have a glossy surface that repelled the raindrops, and was of a lighter color than that of the surrounding area. The object is to determine whether there are any unusual materials in the soil.

Conclusions

Besides normal soil components, four samples contain less than 0.5 wt.% potassium nitrate. These are from 1’ south of the calf, 10’ north of the calf, 15’ north of the calf and 25’ North of the Calf. The sample from 25’ north of the calf contains less nitrate than the others. No potassium nitrate is detected in the soil 10’ south of the calf. The nitrate may be imparting the unusual properties observed in the circle soils.

There is a possibility that the source of this material may be from fertilizer. The fertilizer used by the farmer is 10 (nitrogen) 42 (phosphorus) 10 (potassium). However, no phosphorus is detected, and this is in higher concentration in the fertilizer than the potassium. This might suggest the potassium nitrate is from another source, which remains unknown.

Common uses for potassium nitrate, besides fertilizer, are: pyrotechnics, explosives, matches, reagent to modify burning properties of tobacco, glass manufacture, tempering steel, curing food, oxidizer in solid rocket propellants.1 Also, it is commonly used as the main component (usually about 98%) of tree stump remover; it accelerates the natural decomposition of the stump.

Normal levels of magnesium are in all soils. This is a common element found in soil minerals. This comment is included because of a theory by the submitter that magnesium may be a component of UFO craft propulsion.

Background

A cow (#8) was found mutilated on the morning of April 7, 2003. “….knife marks were found near the animal’s teat which was intact but partially removed. No blackening was noted around the animal’s mouth or tongue, but a bite shaped wound was apparent in the roof of the animal’s mouth as well as on the tongue, consistent with, according to the veterinarian, the animal biting down hard.

The animal was found dead in eight inches of mud, about 70 feet from the roadway. The owner and local law enforcement noticed both fresh vehicle tracks in the snow as well as three separate sets of footprints in the snow.”1 Vitreous fluid was removed from the animal’s eye and submitted for GC/MS analysis to determine if any foreign materials are present. Identification of foreign material could indicate whether the animal had been drugged before euthanasia.

Conclusions

1.) Analytical results do not confirm the presence of an unusual substance. However, the possibility of a brominated material is not ruled out. Expensive, additional analysis would be necessary to confirm its presence2. Additionally, tryptophan derivatives are present, which would be expected to be found naturally in an animal. However, forms of it are also known for their sedative properties. It may be speculated that a derivative might be used as a ruse to avoid drug detection. And finally, it is possible the animal was not drugged.

2.) No oxindole is detected. This is a foreign substance which had been found in another mutilated cow. Derivatives of oxindole are known for sedative properties.

3.) Other materials detected in the vitreous fluid are attributed to natural and possible decomposition products.

Background

A cow was found mutilated in northern Utah (near Logan) in the fall of 2001. The object is to look for any components that should not be normally present in the animal. To accomplish this, samples of liver tissue, blood, and vitreous fluid from the mutilated animal were submitted for analysis.

Additionally, the analytical results of the vitreous fluid from the mutilated animal are compared to that from a control animal as an aid to achieve this objective.

Conclusions

1.) Comparison of the analytical results from the vitreous fluids from a control heifer and the mutilated animal reveals differences in phenolic type materials. The vitreous fluid contains higher amounts of as well as additional phenolic types. It is speculated that these could originate from decomposition products of drugs and/or controlled substances. Many of these substances have similar phenolic functionalities as part of their structures. See Table IV.

2.) A trace amount of oxindole (ca. 0.6 pm) was also found in the vitreous fluid of the mutilated animal. The low amount indicates it is a byproduct of natural biological compounds found in the animal such as low levels of tryptophan.

3.) A specific drug structure is not identified by this analysis for the possible following three reasons: 1) it is totally deteriorated, that is, only the byproducts exist; 2) the chemical nature of the drug is not amenable to detection by the analytical procedure employed
2, 3) a foreign material (drug) was not administered to the animal before euthanasia. (This analyst feels the reasons are a combination of the 1 and 2 speculations. The 3 speculation is least likely because of the presence of high concentrations of phenolics.)

Background

A Red Angus cow was found mutilated in Conrad, Montana. There were no obvious tracks from vehicles, people, or predators around the animal. The mutilations consisted of very clean excisions of the left eye and eyelid, rectum, genitalia, and tongue. When the hide was cut away from the neck by law enforcement officers and the rancher, they found an area that was dark green.

They did this to determine whether the animal had been injected. Tissue samples were taken underneath the left jaw-bone from area of green colored tissue. Additionally, samples of vitreous fluid and a maggot mass were obtained. The object is to look for any components that should not be normally present in the animal.

Conclusions

1.) One unusual compound is present in both the green tissue and vitreous fluid of the mutilated cow. This is oxindole. This component is known to possess a sedative property. It is also a decomposition product of tryptophan, another powerful sedative. 1 The other materials detected appear to consist of the expected natural products or decomposition products from the animal.

2.) The dark tissue (mostly muscle tissue) is suggested to be in more advanced state of decay when compared to the pink tissue (primarily fatty tissue) from the mutilated animal. Furthermore, the analysis suggests the mutilated cow is in a greater state of putrefaction than the control heifer.

Background

The background on this mutilation event can be found in a letter dated October 6, 2000 by Louise Ashby who investigated the case.

This is included in the appendix along with a site drawing.

The object of this analysis is to identify dark substances observed on bovine feces found under a mutilated cow and nearby grass. Of particular interest is whether the dark substance is pure bovine hemoglobin, which has been found in two other animal mutilation events.

Conclusions

The residues found on the feces and grass are definitely blood derived. However, it does not appear to be whole blood. Some components seem to be missing, e.g. lipids and other unidentified components. It is highly likely that the material is primarily the hemoglobin component of blood, but this could not be positively confirmed by infrared analysis.

The residue could not be isolated adequately enough from the feces, grass, and dirt minerals for a more definitive examination. These materials produce additional subtle absorption in a pertinent spectral region which differentiates whole blood from hemoglobin.

The lack of some whole blood components would indicate a processing of blood has occurred.

Identify two samples of red-brown particles retrieved from the testicles and chest area of an excised bull. The bull was found on the Barton Ranch on 1-17-97, around 24 hours after the excision happened. A compass was reported to give a 20° deviation when held over the excisions.

Conclusions

Both residues are identified as bovine hemoglobin, a component of blood. It’s presence suggests a processing of the whole blood has occurred at the excision site. Additionally, the chest area sample has a very small amount of possibly a long chain glyceryl ester.

The usual procedure for isolating hemoglobin from whole blood is rather complex. It involves separating red blood corpuscles from the lighter plasma components by centrifugation. The plasma is siphoned off and ether is added to the corpuscle paste, causing the cells to burst. Another centrifugation removes the ruptured cell envelopes, and leaves a clear red solution of hemoglobin. It is unlikely that a procedure such as this would be done on site. It is unknown how or why this occurred.

BY MITCH WEBER, FoxNews Channel 4, Kansas City, Missouri

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police are investigating after a Northland farmer reported that one of his cows had been found dead and mutilated, apparently by someone who a veterinarian says knew what they were doing.

According to Kansas City Missouri Police, officers responded to a call on Thursday morning to a farm near 120th and Brightwell in rural Platte County, just west of KCI. There, officers said that they found the cow, which had its sexual organs and udder removed.

The cow’s owner, Casey Hamilton, told police that the cow had been ill, and had been moved to another pasture away from the rest of his herd. According to the police report, the cow was alive and recovering when it was last checked on Wednesday night, but was found dead the following morning.

A veterinarian examined the cow, and determined that it’s vagina and udder had been removed. According to the police report, the vet told officers that it was a precise cut and whoever did it “knew what they were doing.” He also stated that the cow was alive when the parts were removed.

“I couldn’t believe it happened so close to home,” said rancher Gordon Phillip, a friend of Hamilton’s and one of three ranchers in the area. The ranchers lease the land from KCI – the cattle herds keep tall grass down, which in turn helps keep deer off the airport’s runway.

“”It’s amazing, like how the vet said, if he had done a massive masectomy like that on a cow there would be blood all over the field, but there was no blood,” said Phillip.

Police say that when the cow was discovered on Thursday morning, the gate was still locked and there were no footprints or tire tracks leading to the dead cow.

“It’s somewhat amazing because the lack of evidence,” said Phillip, who says that he discovered one of his own cows mutilated 30 years ago. When he asked his vet for an explanation, Phillip says that he just looked towards the sky.

“He was just amazed when I showed him this cow 30 years ago, he went around and around looking for where a space machine had landed to see if he could find any burn marks in the pasture,” said Phillip.

The cow’s exact cause of death has not been determined, but the vet told police that the cow did not die from the mutilation. The lack of evidence is leading to a conundrum for investigators and ranchers alike.

“(It’s) just amazing how whoever does this terrible thing to animals seems to know what they are doing,” said Phillip.

By Zach Tecklenburg, KHSB

HENRY COUNTY, Mo. – A Missouri rancher is getting tired of making disturbing discoveries on her Henry County land. Lyn Mitchell said she is out of reasonable explanations for what’s to blame for killing her livestock.

Mitchell said she’s normally a private person, but the deaths of three of her cattle have her speaking out.

“It’s just something I want some answers to,” she said.

Mitchell found the first cow in December 2011.

“She had obviously been cut on the side of her jaw,” Mitchell said. “Her tongue was gone, her ear was gone.”

She initially assumed the animal had fallen victim to teenagers or was part of a sacrificial ritual, until earlier this month. Mitchell made the next discovery on July 9.

Close up of the wounds on the cow.

“I looked first to see her tongue was gone, then immediately noticed the udder had been completely removed,” Mitchell said.

The reproductive organs were gone too, Mitchell said. A char mark outlining the cow’s body – still visible today – made the death even more mysterious.

Finally on July 19, Mitchell found the third cow. She said its heart was exposed and its teats were cut off.

All three animals’ tongues were also cut out.

Mitchell said the cuts all looked surgical with clean, precise incisions. And in all three deaths, Mitchell said there was no blood despite the animals’ gaping wounds.

Since the cows graze in such an isolated place, nobody saw or heard a thing. Mitchell said the sheriff’s department and a veterinarian have investigated, but can’t come up with an answer.

“The more it happens, the more questions you get. And the more you learn, you find more and more things that make you ask more questions,” Mitchell said.

With all other reasonable causes debunked, Mitchell said she is open to the possibility that extraterrestrial life could be responsible.

Similar cases of animal mutilation have been reported in Missouri in the past few years. The FBI nearly investigated in the 1970s. With the unsolved mysteries looming, aliens have become a common answer.

Mitchell is considering installing cameras to catch the person or thing in action the next time they visit her ranch. She just wants the killing to stop.

“Something happened to these cows and it’s not something that you see every day, it’s not in your normal, so something else is going on,” Mitchell said.
