The below document was released in response to a Mandatory Declassification Review request filed by The Black Vault on November 15, 2021. This request pertained to the re-review of testimony on the Persian Gulf for the Senate Armed Services Committee, documented under CIA-RDP90B00017R000300720003-0. An older, more redacted version, can be seen here.
The CIA reviewed the document and determined that additional information could be released, although some portions remained classified under Executive Order 13526. These classifications include Sections 3.3(b)(1) and 6.2(d), which protect sensitive national security information and statutes under the Central Intelligence Agency Act of 1949 and the National Security Act of 1947.
The document itself is a memorandum from 1987, detailing a briefing for the Senate Armed Services Committee about the Persian Gulf situation. Various Senators and CIA officials were present, and the discussion touched on Soviet influence in the region, among other topics.
