Background
While searching for files on various topics, The Black Vault filed a request in March of 2019, seeking all records on the television show “Saturday Night Live.”
Although there were no files specifically on the show itself; there were cross references. Cross references, according to the FBI, are “mentions of the subject of your request in files to other individuals, organizations, events, or activities.”
The files released cross-referencing Saturday Night Live, were about a tape that was found in the room of attempted assassin John Hinckley, after he tried to assassinate President Ronald Reagan outside the Hilton Hotel in Washington, D.C. The tape had actors Dan Aykroyd and Jodie Foster on it from a SNL skit, the latter being an actress that Hinckley was known to be obsessed over.
Foster was brought in by the FBI to help identify voices found on audio tapes also found in Hinckley’s hotel room, along with determine the timeframe of the skit from SNL.
This document was an unexpected find! It also revealed additional files and file numbers that The Black Vault is going after. Additional FOIA requests were filed, and this page will be updated when they become available.
