You are receiving this email because you submitted a FOIA request to the DC Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency concerning the insurrection on January 6, 2021. The DC Government received overlapping FOIA and investigatory requests about the attack on the U.S. Capitol. We are providing all relevant investigatory bodies and FOIA requesters the opportunity to receive the results of an all-encompassing search of District-wide emails concerning January 6, 2021. The details of the search that was conducted are listed below. We are offering to provide the results of that search in place of the FOIA request you submitted. The results of this search will almost certainly be broader than your initial FOIA request, and it will include an in-depth review of the District emails concerning the attack on January 6, 2021.

In addition to the search results conducted we are also providing the following documents that were provided to the U.S. House of Representatives Oversight Committee which concern the insurrection:

  • Search #1: Involves a search of documents and communications received, prepared, or sent between December 19, 2020, and January 6, 2021, by employees or officials in the Office of the Mayor or any of its components, offices, or directorates, including the Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency (HSEMA), Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and Office of the Deputy Mayor for Public Safety and Justice (DMPSJ) relating to the counting of the Electoral College vote on January 6, 2021, or the potential for demonstrations, violence, or attacks in the National Capital Region on or around January 6, 2021;
    • Date Range for Search #1: 12/19/20-1/6/21
  • Search #2: Involves a search of documents and communications received, prepared, or sent between January 7, 2021, and January 20, 2021, by employees or officials in the Office of the Mayor or any of its components, offices, or directorates, including the Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency(HSEMA), Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and Office of the Deputy Mayor for Public Safety and Justice (DMPSJ) relating to the aftermath of January 6, 2021.
