On 21 May 1951, the United States Air Force established the Air Technical Intelligence Center (ATIC) as a field activity of the Assistant Chief of Staff for Intelligence, HQ USAF. Operation Mount Hope III was a secret operation conducted by the United States in 1988 with the goal of retrieving a crashed Soviet-made Mil Mi-25 “Hind D” attack helicopter.
