										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<h3>Background</h3>
<p>Two witnesses observed barbell-shaped UFOs dispensing white filament-like material. The account as written by the principal investigator Bill Schroeder follows.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em><strong>“On November 4th, 2016 the Investigator was contacted by witness 1. He advised that he and witness 2 had observed a number of Barbell shaped objects in flight over his dwelling. The object first observed was silver metallic in color and 20 to 30 inches in length. When first observed the object was at rooftop level or about 35 feet over his head. The object was moving silently and laterally towards a small lake just south of the dwelling. At the time of the sighting witness 1 was in the company of witness 2. Witness 1 noted that there was no visible means of propulsion observed and no sound detected. As the object arrived to the center of the lake it stopped moving laterally and began to rise. As it started to rise it began exuding a white filament like material. The material was very fine and stretched all the way to the ground. After it had risen to several hundred feet is was joined by more than 12 other like objects that seemed to be circling it as it continued to rise. At this point in time the white material was spewing from the devices in such quantity it looked like rain. The objects rose together into a clear sky until</strong></em><br />
<em><strong>they were no longer visible. </strong></em></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em><strong>The white material that had fallen remained visible in trees for about 24 hours before dissipating. When witness 1 contacted the Investigator, he was requested to get samples if possible. The witnesses were able to obtain some samples of the material. Witness 1 also sent an email report of the sighting. Witness 2, who is a professional artist, painted a picture that depicted the sighting. The material was collected using a clean shish-kabob skewer. At the Investigators request the samples were placed in paper and plastic bags. The samples were sent to the Investigator via USPS Priority mail with tracking. </strong></em></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em><strong>The samples arrived intact on November 9th, 2016. Upon arrival the envelope was opened by the Investigator who was in the company of a second Investigator. The package and enclosed samples were photographed by the Primary Investigator. The samples were then placed in evidence bags and bottles by the Investigator. The bags and bottles were then sealed and initialed by the Investigator. The arrival, repackaging, and sealing of the evidence was recorded on video tape for later review. Witness 2 painted a picture that re-created the scene at the time of the sighting. A scan of the painting was forwarded to the Investigator. A partial jpeg image is included with this report. </strong></em></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em><strong>The evidence was placed in a safe at the Investigators residence. Part of the evidence was later sent to Robert Powell and Phyllis Budinger for examination and lab testing. </strong></em></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em><strong>Witness Information:</strong></em></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em><strong>Witness 1 is an adult male. The witness has been in the aviation industry for more than 30 years. He has designed military and civilian aircraft systems over that time. He is familiar with aircraft propulsion systems and overall designs. He has a PHD level of education related to the industry. This individual has been personally known to the Investigator over 40 years. Witness 2 is an adult female. The witness is a college educated professional. The witness is also a well-known artist (painter).“</strong></em></p>
<p>Following is a picture Witness 2 painted of the event;</p>
<p><a href="https://www.theblackvault.com/casefiles/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/2017-02-01_7-32-48.jpg"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-2989 size-large" src="https://www.theblackvault.com/casefiles/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/2017-02-01_7-32-48-1024x485.jpg" width="980" height="464" srcset="https://www.theblackvault.com/casefiles/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/2017-02-01_7-32-48-1024x485.jpg 1024w, https://www.theblackvault.com/casefiles/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/2017-02-01_7-32-48-300x142.jpg 300w, https://www.theblackvault.com/casefiles/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/2017-02-01_7-32-48-150x71.jpg 150w, https://www.theblackvault.com/casefiles/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/2017-02-01_7-32-48-450x213.jpg 450w, https://www.theblackvault.com/casefiles/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/2017-02-01_7-32-48-768x364.jpg 768w, https://www.theblackvault.com/casefiles/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/2017-02-01_7-32-48-600x284.jpg 600w, https://www.theblackvault.com/casefiles/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/2017-02-01_7-32-48-731x346.jpg 731w, https://www.theblackvault.com/casefiles/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/2017-02-01_7-32-48.jpg 1187w" sizes="(max-width: 980px) 100vw, 980px" /></a></p>
<p>This analyst heard about the incident from Robert Powell. He was sending the material to another lab and asked my opinion on which tests he should request. This analyst asked for a sample after having analyzed a number of ‘Angel Hair’ samples over the years.1 I desired to compare it to these previous samples especially since very credible witnesses saw the material being spewed from UFOs. I felt the identification of this material would be a clue and a step forward in understanding the UFO phenomenon and its purpose.</p>
<p>The objective is to identify the white fibrous material, compare it to samples from previous events, and offer speculations as to the reason for the UFO dispersions.</p>
<h3>Conclusions</h3>
<ul>
<li>The analysis shows the white filament like material is primarily a biologically derived silk typical of that produced by spiders. Additionally present are very small amounts of celluloidal material, i.e. plant derived substance, possibly inorganic nitrate and an unidentified rust/red material. It is unknown if these additional materials are part of the original composition or contaminants.</li>
<li>The fibrous spider silk compares to other purported fibers, aka ‘Angel Hair’, analyzed by this laboratory and other laboratories. Other laboratories have done very credible research and issued extensive reports involving spider silk fibers that fell concurrent with UFO sightings. (See page 10 for a partial listing.)</li>
<li>The above identification is particularly exciting because the UFOs’ deposition was observed by multiple, very credible, witnesses. Spider silk has definitely been identified/linked to UFOs. This is an important clue.</li>
</ul>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<h3>Background</h3>
<p>Following is the background regarding a white fibrous material observed floating from the sky. It is in Ed Gehrman’s words.</p>
<p><em>“I was driving from Quincy CA (hwy 70) in the northern Sierras to my daughter’s home in Ukiah. </em></p>
<p><em>A few minutes before 3:00 p.m. (11-9-01), I began to notice cobweb-like filaments floating in the air around me. I immediately began to realize that the air was full of this strange material. Some of the strands were as long as twelve feet and seemed quite large while in the air, but when they landed, they seemed to come together and lose mass. Some of the material landed on my car and attached itself to the antenna. </em></p>
<p><em>But then I noticed the most amazing thing. The long filaments were swinging in the air a good nine feet behind my car and would not come off the antenna, even at speeds of 70 mph. All this took place between Butte City (hwy 162), 15 miles as the crow flies, through Princeton, then west again to I-5, then continues down I-5 until Williams and then on for two miles west of Williams on hwy 20.” </em></p>
<p>This event is typical of other, similar phenomena which have been observed in the past and designated by many as “angel hair falls”. Two samples were submitted: one from the truck mirror; and the other from a rest stop. (See sample description in procedure section.) The object is to identify this material in order to elucidate its source.</p>
<h3>Conclusions</h3>
<p>1) The truck mirror “angel hair” appears primarily as bundles of fine strands combined in rope-like fashion. Some single fine strands are also observed. These have very fine droplets adhering to the surface. The strands are identified as a polymer containing secondary protein amide linkages typical of a protein structure. It is probable that a biological source is involved in its manufacture. However, at this point the specific source remains unidentified. The spectral data are close to that of silk made by caterpillars.</p>
<p>2) The rest stop sample is similar in appearance to the truck mirror sample. However, it is composed of at least three components. Prominent is the same protein type strands identified in the mirror sample. Some celluloidal material is also present, i.e. plant derived material such as cotton, paper, wood etc. This component is speculated to be contamination picked up by the sticky protein “angel hair”. Additionally, a small amount of ester, which could be a natural ester, is detected.</p>
<p>3) The protein fibrous material compares to that from “angel hair” falls in Los Gatos, California (October 19-20, 1977), Shenandoah, Iowa (October 4, 1981), Sacramento, California (November 11, 1999), and Burlington, West Virginia (September 19, 2000) which were also analyzed by this laboratory.</p>
<p>4) It should be noted that the suggestion the material is from a biological origin does not rule out a possible “intelligent” influence. The “jury is still out” on the specific source of this material until further research is completed.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<h3>Background</h3>
<p>On Sunday, October 4, 1981 between 12:30 &#8211; 6:00 p.m., globs of white, fibrous material were observed floating from high in the sky. There were copious amounts, and it was floating in giant spirals. It stuck to trees, bushes and telephone wires, i.e. everywhere in town and the surrounding country. This is typical of many other similar events in the past and present and the phenomenon has been designated by many as “angel hair falls”.</p>
<p>An intriguing coincidence about this “angel hair” sample is that at 12:30 p.m. a UFO was sighted just prior to the fall. UFOs have been observed in past angel hair falls, though not always. Yet the statistics involving UFO observation followed by angel hair drops are high enough to imply a connection. The UFO was observed in this event had the appearance of a silver dollar.</p>
<p>It was in view for approximately one minute and was about 60° above the horizon. It appeared to stand still, then suddenly sped up and disappeared. It was a bright day with a clear sky.</p>
<p>The object is to identify this material in order to elucidate its source.</p>
<h3>Conclusions</h3>
<p>1) The white fibrous material is identified as a polymer containing protein amide type linkages, i.e. protein. Therefore, it is speculated that a biological source is involved in its manufacture. However, at this point the specific source remains unidentified. The spectra data are close to that of silk made by caterpillars.</p>
<p>2) This material compares to that from “angel hair” falls in Los Gatos, California (October 19-20, 1977); Sacramento, California (November 11, 1999), and Burlington, West Virginia (September 19, 2000) which were also analyzed by this laboratory.</p>
<p>3) It should be noted that the suggestion the material is from a biological origin does not rule out a possible “intelligent” influence. The “jury is still out” on the specific source of this material until further research is completed.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<h3>Background</h3>
<p>On the morning of September 21, 2000 Retha Rutherford found white fibrous “spider-web” like material in her yard. It did not look like the usual webs. She took several pictures and her husband sampled the material. Mrs. Rutherford reports, “When trying to collect the samples of the stuff it turned to a clear goo somewhat like the slimy stuff you see when you cut okra.”</p>
<p>On the previous night at approximately 7:00 p.m. she heard a loud “droning” sound similar to that from a large airplane. This sound lasted about an hour. Yet the source of the sound was not visually obvious. Subsequent to the droning sound the dog became ill and vomited. Mrs. Rutherford also experienced a severe sinus attack. It is the objective of this analysis to identify this material in hopes it will provide a clue as to the source.</p>
<h3>Conclusions</h3>
<p>A white fibrous material and small amounts of other components were identified in the sample. Following are the identifications and some of the conclusions based on their analyses.</p>
<p>1) The white fibrous material is identified as a polymer containing protein amide type linkages, i.e. protein. Therefore, it is suspected that a biological source is involved in its manufacture. However, as this point the specific source remains unidentified. The data do show the fiber is close to that of silk made by insects and caterpillars. Also coating the fiber are droplets commonly noted in insect silks.</p>
<p>2) Other components attributed to the sample include a variety of fatty acid amides. The following are specifically “suggested”: 4-methyl-pentamide; hexadecanamide; dodecanamide; N-tetradecanoic acid amide. It should be noted that this particular “angel hair” sample is unique in that it is the first time fatty acid amides have been detected. Trace amounts of heavier hydrocarbons such as eicosane (C20H42) and 2-methyl hexadecane are indicated. Eicosane has been found in a previous sample1. It is suspected these components are part of the purported gelatinous material (goo) noted by the witness. Perhaps they are final degradation products. Any lighter volatiles, if present, were probably lost during sample transferal and the failure of Ziploc bag containers to adequately confine them.</p>
<p>3) The fibrous material compares to that from “angel hair” falls in Los Gatos, California (October 19-20, 1977)2, Sacramento, California (November 11, 1999)3, and Burns, Oregon (November 4, 1999)4 which were also analyzed by this laboratory.</p>
<p>4) Research is being done to more accurately pinpoint the source of the “angel hair” and other materials. It should be noted that the suggestion that the material is from a biological origin does not rule out a possible “intelligent” influence. The “jury is still out” on the specific source of this material until further research is completed.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<h3>Background</h3>
<p>Thomas Brewer was driving on I-5 about 30 miles north of Sacramento on his way to Alaska.</p>
<p>He observed strings of fiber-like material of varying lengths (from a few inches to 50 feet) floating at different elevations. This continued for approximately 10-15 miles, when he noticed some of it on the highway shoulders, trees, signs and lawn. He collected samples of the material and noted the material diminished in size over a period of time. His detailed description may be found in Art Bell’s website: http://artbell.com/stringy.html (now defunct).</p>
<p>No other unusual phenomena were noted in the sky. There were thin wispy clouds overhead. Brian Boldman forwarded three samples of this material to Frontier Analysis on recommendation of Mark Rodeghier. Thomas Brewer took photographs of the material at the site of the fall. Some selected pictures follow. These were obtained from the Art Bell website.</p>
<h3>Conclusions</h3>
<p>1.) Both the white fiber and volatile materials associated with the fiber were identified. The fiber is a polymer containing protein amide type linkages. This suggests an animal/biological source is involved in its manufacture.</p>
<p>Also coating the fiber are droplets which appear to be a natural long chain fatty ester type material. The volatiles are primarily composed of a mix of the following light hydrocarbons: 2-methyl propane; 2-methyl-1-propene; 2-methyl-1-butene; 2-methyl pentane; 3-methyl pentane; hexane; dimethyl-pentane; 2 C6H12 (MW=84) hydrocarbon structures (specific isomers unidentified); one C8H16 hydrocarbon (MW=112) (specific isomer unidentified). There are possibly trace amounts of heavier hydrocarbons such as two C20H42 components and a C23H43 component. Additionally, trace amounts of carbonyl sulfide (COS) and carbon disulfide (CS2) are indicated.</p>
<p>2.) No weight loss or physical degradation of the fiber was observed over a period of 4 months.</p>
<p>3.) The fibrous material is identical to that from an angel hair fall in Los Gatos California (near San Jose) on October 19-20,1977 (see <a href="https://www.theblackvault.com/casefiles/analysis-purported-angel-hair-collected-october-19-20-1977-los-gatos-california/">Frontier Analysis T.S.R. No.: UT002.</a>)</p>
<p>4.) The material does not originate from spiders, i.e. spider webs. It is more similar to that of silk from caterpillars, e.g. silkworms, tent caterpillars etc. While the material has been identified as being of biological origin, this does not rule out a possible “intelligent” influence. Spider web/silk properties are desirable for many applications.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<h3>Background</h3>
<p>Three stored “angel hair” samples were found November 1998 in the carport attic of John Timmerman, Lakeview, Ohio. They were preserved there for a number of years after closure of the CUFOS Chicago Office. All three samples seem to be from the same event, though documentation does not indicate any details of the event. One sample is clearly identified as originating from the late Paul Cerney and has a handwritten note from him.</p>
<p>This handwriting matches that from two other samples. And the information indicates all three samples were obtained at the same time (October 19–20, 1977) and location (Los Gatos, California). Two samples were very tightly sealed in glass jars and other was in an envelope. For many years this analyst has read tales of mysterious “angel hair” falls all over the globe and its purported unusual properties such as an ability to turn gelatinous and vanish (though not universally reported). John’s discovery of these samples provided my first opportunity for analysis of this material.</p>
<h3>Conclusions</h3>
<p>1.) The white fibrous material in all three &#8220;angel hair&#8221; samples is composed of a polymer containing protein amide type linkages. This suggests that an animal/biological source is involved in its manufacture. Trace amounts of a long carbon chain ester and carboxylic acid are also detected. It is unknown if these are contaminants or components coating the fiber.</p>
<p>2.) The material definitely does not originate from spiders, i.e. spider webs. The amide type peptide linkages are more characteristic of silk from caterpillars such as silkworms, tent caterpillars etc.</p>
<p>3.) There is no evidence for volatile decomposition products of the fiber. However, it should be noted that any volatiles probably dissipated after 22 years. The filaments are tacky/sticky and a large bundle easily compresses into a minute ball when rolled between one’s fingers. The fact that the material easily balls up into virtually nothing could, in part, explain the purported disappearance of the material or volatilization reported by witnesses of angel hair falls.</p>
<p>4.) The fact the material is of biological origin does not rule out an extraterrestrial source. Spider web/silk properties, especially strength, are desirable for many products and applications. According to a newspaper article, molecular engineers are trying to make spider silk out of goat’s milk. The article indicates a single bundle of strands of spider silk the thickness of a pencil could stop a Boeing 747 in flight! This article can be found in the addendum.</p>
<p>5.) Should more &#8220;angel hair&#8221; falls occur this analysis could well used for comparison even though adequate documentation and details of the case are not available.</p>
