{"id":4942,"date":"2018-06-19T22:00:10","date_gmt":"2018-06-19T22:00:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.theblackvault.com\/documentarchive\/?p=4942"},"modified":"2018-06-20T05:01:07","modified_gmt":"2018-06-20T05:01:07","slug":"jonathan-jay-pollard-espionage-case-damage-assessment-30-october-1987","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theblackvault.com\/documentarchive\/jonathan-jay-pollard-espionage-case-damage-assessment-30-october-1987\/","title":{"rendered":"The Jonathan Jay Pollard Espionage Case: A Damage Assessment \u2013 30 October 1987"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Background<\/h3>\n<p>According to this document:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><em><strong>&#8220;This study, undertaken by the Foreign Denial and Deception Analysis Committee (DDAC) at the direction of the Director of Central Intelligence, is one of two assessments of damage undertaken as a result of Jonathan Pollard&#8217;s espionage on behalf of Israel during 1984-1985, which are being issued almost simultaneously.&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Back in 2007, the CIA released the below document, heavily redacted.<\/p>\n<p>Since nearly a decade had passed, in June of 2017, I requested a Mandatory Declassification Review (MDR) of the record, believing that since so much time had passed, and there had been significant changes in politics and the world, I felt additional information could potentially be released to the public.<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, on 1 August 2017, the CIA decided to simply send a copy of the previously released record reviewed in 2007. \u00a0What is frustrating, is that my letter clearly stated I was not seeking a copy of this previously released record, but rather, was requesting another review in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>I have archived the document below for reference, however, I have submitted an appeal, as I consider this not responsive to my actual request, which asked for the following (in part):<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em><strong>This is a request for a mandatory declassification review (MDR), under the terms of Executive Order 12958, as amended, of the following document(s):<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em><strong>THE JONATHAN JAY POLLARD ESPIONAGE CASE: A DAMAGE ASSESSMENT \u2013 30 October 1987.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em><strong>I believe the record has been partially released before, but it has been many years since it has been reviewed. I requested an MDR and they re-sent me a 2012 version (see below this one) which I have archived here for reference. My appeal was granted, and they released this &#8220;new&#8221; version. However, although I did not go character by character in a line review, it appears to be the same document with a different MORI ID number.
