Background<\/h3>\n

In June 2013, former National Security Agency (NSA) contractor Edward Snowden\u00a0perpetrated the largest and most damaging Public release of classified information in U.S.\u00a0intelligence history.<\/p>\n

In August 2014, the Chairman and Ranking Member of the House\u00a0Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI) directed Committee staff to carry out a\u00a0comprehensive review of the unauthorized disclosures.<\/p>\n

The aim of the review was to allow the\u00a0Committee to explain to other Members of Congress-and, where possible, the American\u00a0people-how this breach occurred, what the U.S. Government knows\u00a0about the man who\u00a0committed it, and whether the security shortfalls it highlighted had been remedied.<\/p>\n
