On December 6, 1950, at 10:30 Eastern Time, an estimated 40 unidentified craft traveling at 32,000 feet, were seen on radar. Within minutes, the White House was notified. Within the next 20 minutes, the CIA, JCS and many others were also updated on the situation.

Then, approximately 35 minutes after the alert began, the original 40 unidentified tracks faded out, and one C-47 flight in the area remained. Fighter jets were scrambled, and intercepted the one plane they were able to identify, which was an American flight out of Otis Air Force Base.

Were the blips simply the product of the radar malfunctioning and “seeing” objects that weren’t really there? Or was this something else?

Superviolence is defined as the illegitimate use of nuclear, chemical, or biological mass destruction devices by domestic agents for attack or threat against U.S. civil society. Political extremism, sever mental imbalance, and criminal gain are examined as possible motivations. Since the nuclear industry constitutes the primary source of fissionable material for fabricating an illicit weapon, its policies, practices, and diversion safequards program are investigated. The threat process is analyzed in five phases: idea conception, group formation, weapon fabrication, application (attack or threat), and consequences. The steps of each phase are described for various weapons, with emphasis on the human factors, skills and resources involved. Potential failure modes are identified, and assessed as more severe in the nuclear than in the chemical or biological case. The important distinctions between direct attack, coercive threat, and sham are analyzed in detail. Actual nuclear superviolence is held to be an extremely unlikely phenomenon due to its dependence on the coalescence of specialized motives, high commitment, inhibition of restraints, technical skills, and significant resources in a risky, failure-prone process of inapparent utility. Chemical or biological superviolence is deemed more practicable, with the latter having an anit-personnel potential greater than the nuclear case. Provisions for controlling and responding to superviolent incidents are examined.

Project Megiddo was a report researched and written by the United States’ Federal Bureau of Investigation under Director Louis Freeh.

Released on October 20, 1999, the report named followers of white supremacy, Christian Identity, the militia movement, Black Hebrew Israelites, and apocalyptic cults as potential terrorists who might become violent in reaction to the new millennium.

The report’s purpose was to warn other domestic law enforcement agencies to “the potential for extremist criminal activity in the United States by individuals or domestic groups who attach special significance to the year 2000.”

The report also stated:

“The threat posed by extremists as a result of perceived events associated with the Year 2000 is very real.

The volatile mix of apocalyptic religious and (New World Order) conspiracy theories may produce violent acts aimed a precipitating the end of the world as prophesied in the Bible.”
