Uzbekistani security services report a crisis that has begun after numerous terrorist groups were driven out of the Middle East. Since Islam is the main religion in Uzbekistan, Daesh and other international extremist organizations were successfully recruiting new members there. After the situation in the region has changed the leaderless militants chose to seek self-realization in some other places closer to their homeland. Many of them come from Central Asian countries, among which Uzbekistan's border is the easiest for the terrorists to cross. According to official statistics, over 5,000 well-trained professional killers have already moved into that country both legally and illegally. Those people have got vast combat experience against various military units including NATO forces. So, Uzbekistan's Deputy Foreign Minister Abdujabar Abduvakhitov shared his concerns about this in his letter to the US Ambassador to Uzbekistan Pamela Spratlen.
As can be seen from the letter, US security services are aware of the developments. However, they are no less confused than Mr. Abduvakhitov and are doing nothing to hinder the process. For this reason, the US and Uzbekistani counter-terrorism units cannot coordinate their efforts. As a result, they are losing valuable time, which allows the scattered militants to unite into well-organized cells while Uzbekistan turns into a new base for Islamic terrorists.
