Might I suggest that the root cause of Muslim terrorism is that it is not actually an organized religion. There is no central authority that determines policies. In fact, the only religion I know of that does have a central authority is Christianity. Jews once had a central authority but it was temple-based and that temple no longer exists (god-in-a-box). And with the Muslim religion being distributed and disparate, we have no one to negotiate with, if we were so inclined. So, some Muslim leaders USE the Muslim religion as an excuse to subvert people to violent causes and can do so because no authority is around to stop them. Every Muslim country implements the religion to a different degree. Some Muslim countries are politically controlled by the religion (e.g. Iran) and some are not (Turkey, Syria, Egypt).
So Muslim leaders can use the religion for ANY purpose. See the problem?
I suppose you MIGHT be able to suggest the same for the Jewish religion but it does not seem to be provable. And, how Jews have been able to keep their religion intact for so many centuries without a central authority is quite amazing. One questions how this was possible. The reason this question has become important is that Christianity may be needing that answer soon.
And for those who suggest that we get rid of religions, I don't think you fully grasp what you are suggesting. Whatever they would be replaced with is likely to be much worse.
