1935-1940 is the longest the US hasn't been at war.

Yes, math would dictate that from 1920-1930 would be one decade, and 1930-1940 would be two.

But you're right, I missed that one. Most sites call it an occupation, but it has 'war' in the title.

War is an extension of economics and diplomacy through other means.

Economics and diplomacy are methods of securing resources used by humans.

Securing resources is the one necessary behavior for all living things.

War = Life

Woah there CodeBlack2 ! (And hello :))
The World can be a dangerous place. It doesn't have to be.
Like anyone, anywhere, if you keep yourself to yourself, don't brag, don't steal, don't threaten, you'll get along just fine.

History has proven this very wrong. What were the Kurds doing when Saddam gassed them? What was Chekloslovakia doing when Hitler invaded? What were the Hawaiians doing when they got bombed by the Japanese? What were the Afghans doing when they were invaded by the Soviet Union? What were the French doing when they were invaded by King Harry?

"Life is nothing but a competition to be the criminal rather than the victim." --Bertrand Russell

So, nigfis, in your opinion, when should the US have stopped fighting for freedom?

"Nigfis" wrote: When the US became free. Americans generally can't wait to tell us all about how free they are.

Americans believe that freedom should be shared by all people.

I'm a bit surprised to see an American raise the issue of Iraqi Kurds, seeing as it was America, in the form of former President GW Bush, that repeatedly urged the Kurds to rise up against Saddam Hussein on the promise of support and protection. So when they did rise up, with whatever they had to hand, and neither the promised help nor protection materialised, Hussein's troops slaughtered them. Not only with gas either.

What was Czechoslovakia doing when Hitler invaded?

Hitler invaded Czechoslovakia because there were 3 million Germans living in the newly expanded Czechoslovakia, after the Treaty of Versailles. he also wanted the Czech army and any resources available.

What were the Hawaiians doing when they got bombed by the Japanese?

Hosting a massive American fleet of warships...

..and so on.

Codeblack2, we're getting a long way from the point here....

Funny how freedom and democracy all seem to be deliverable by bombing nowadays, eh?

Oh give it a break Nigfis, and ask some of those who remember the days of V-2's. Did the Falklands require what you did?

Yes I did add something, evidently you just ignored the link to the UK also having wars. You are not exactly a neutral country, and you had no problems with a little confrontation over the Falkland Islands, like they matter to the UK at the southern tip of South America. The mainland of the UK, was not exactly hit by 4 airplanes crashing into London, killing 3500 people on a Monday morning. The UK also asked the USA for its support during that. Like John said, learn you own history.

This was your thread about terrorism, so how does adding history back to George Washington have anything to do with it?

So what the UK also has also had wars? That wasn't the topic, and you know it. The discussion is about how the 'war on terror' something uniquely American even in its name, is working out for you now.
It is about how military assets like drones and all-seeing night-and-day cctv and other things are now being turned inwards on you and your own as a way of 'keeping you safe.'

The mainland of the UK, was not exactly hit by 4 airplanes crashing into London, killing 3500 people on a Monday morning.

.....No...Nor did we suffer a million deaths in retaliation for something we never did either. Your "3,500 dead people on a Monday morning" is a pitiful number compared to the killing spree the US has been on, and still is, right now.

This was your thread about terrorism, so how does adding history back to George Washington have anything to do with it?

It came up in context.
Anything more to add Greeney?

How about telling us how you feel now you're being spied on, your money transactions watched, your behaviour monitored by software, travel tickets, emails and text messages subjected to searches for trigger words..... Feel safe yet?

Very funny, the UK was every bit involved as you know, and was also involved in the first gulf wars. You are singing the same song now as you did in the past, thinking the terrorists are victims.

Why won't you answer the topic? Not to your liking?
