The title of this thread should is the definition of oxymoron.

Not so. A example of a good oxymoron would be Military intelligence. The title of this thread is not an oxymoran because it contains more than two words and is relating to things that both disiplines agree apon. I wonder if you actually know the meaning of an oxymoran? What makes you believe Science and Religion have nothing in common?

They are both inventions of man.
They are both subject to change.
They are both limited in their ability to see the full truth.
I could go on, but its late and I've been reading a lot today, so I'm really tired.

When Science finds evidence of the soul, {which some phyisists believe they are getting closer to doing, especially in Quamtrum mechanics } what will you say?

I find it interesting that Science has "theorys" and Religion has "beliefs" but actually they are the same thing, and each need "faith" in order to sustain them.

Theorys hold true for science...until a new theory is developed, then the old theory which was held to be true is no longer true and is replaced by the new theory. The fact that men of Science must have "faith" to believe in their current theory in order for them to accept it as truth and be able to work with it as a base to their understanding is the same "faith" that religion implements.

If you say that the faith of Science is different because it relies on "truth" then you are forgetting that the truth of Science is only a temporary truth which will someday be replaced by a "new truth".

I would not says Science is Theory,
Philosophy is Theory.

Science is Facts.

And yes I know there are not much that is 100% yet.

Truth doesn´t control you, you control it...

Hi Dark-Samus,

Thanks for the response. I think everything we "know" is based on faith. I think we believe we have some established facts, like gravity, but even they are only they are only temporary truths. Even gravity changes as we leave the surface of the Earth. Many things could also be real or true but we like to see something with our own eyes before we can feel it is true. What most people don't realize is that seeing with our eyes has nothing to do with truth! Truth is something that can be held up to be real even if none of our human senses are involved. Science believes that if something can be written in a mathamatical way it is truth. I don't believe Math is the end all point of truth, because math itself is a man made invention. I don't think that man as a species has the authority to claim what is truth.

If you actually look deep enough under the surface of any "fact" you realise everything is a illusion based on perceptions which are received by what could truthfully be called the Matrix of the brain.

So if someone says Science has "facts" I say, yes, but facts can change. Facts are only things which could be called temporary truths, not enternal ones, and facts need the human element of "faith" in order to make them real.

Nope. Science is based on theory. It is all about disproof. There is NO proof in science...only disproof. 😉 Even gravity is a theory. Mind you, a theory that hasn't been disproved, so now it's called a law.

well...i mean science can look at the interaction of two (or more)chemicals(or substances) and formulate that these two chemicals will react together in a very specific way.

Also science looks at the processes of nature, the materials involved, the behaviors of certain things, and tends to imagine that most things behave in a very predict-able way in a particular system or under particular conditions.

This is pretty much the proof that science relies on, and admittedly, for 99 percent of its purposes, it works.

But it cannot be overstated that there are VAST fields of scientific thought that require very little more than some numbers and some faith.

I find it funny how most humans think they are superior to everything but when it comes to Science and Religion you all seem to kneel before them Laugh

A bit Schizo acting if you ask me... Laugh

Good point Dark-Samus!

You have found another thing that Science and religion share. People who absolutely believe that what they are being told is the truth and will never open their minds to some other reality have closed minds. A closed mind is a dangerous mind. It creates blind followers.

Some people have elevated Science to the place of religion. They positively believe that there is no room for a "God" in the world of Science, but what they don't realize is they have created a God in their own image, a God of experiments, theorys and numbers.

Then there are people who take the bible so literally that they appear foolish to most. They don't believe in things like evolution which has proven itself somewhat by leaving physical records such as fossils. { I say somewhat because evolution is still just a theory}. But the worst thing is the violence and harm religion has caused, when it should bring people together.

True awareness of the spiritual side of things makes a person realize everything is connected and there is room for science in religion...and religion in science. Nothing should be blindly followed.

This is what makes it so damn difficult to carry on a civil conversation with some people, they just refuse to examine/explore/think of possibilities or even consider alternatives to everything they were ever told. It can be maddening to those unable to accept the fact that some people are just not capable of reason. It's like they've been programmed or something. Scary stuff.

Nice post by the way!
