I've been experiencing strange hallucinations when I wake up in the middle of the night. Usually I wake up and see a spider dangling off of my ceiling and I jump right out of bed and run to my aunts room and then come back to realize nothing was ever there. Another time I woke up and saw a ton of spiders on my ceiling and quickly threw the covers over my head and slowly peaked and realized nothing was ever there. What is going on? I read somewhere that it could be a spiritual awakening and some where else a sleep disorder and somewhere else alien abduction.

Welcome to the BV. Recurring nightmares can have different meanings, many books list what some of them mean. Do you have a fear of spiders when you are awake, or is it just the nightmare?

Well it's not a dream. It's once I wake up that I'm seeing things that aren't there. I see them and then they disappear and I'm able to fall back asleep. My friend suggested lucid dreaming but I'm not sure and yes I have arachnophobia.

Think that is your answer, a fear and resulting bad dreams, its pretty normal. I used to have dreams of falling, recurring dream I didn't make a curve in the road and would wake up while in mid air falling to the ocean below. Classic dream of not feeling like you were going anywhere, unhappy with profession, (which I was at the time) failing, no direction. My sister would completely freak out when she saw a spider.

It's just so strange that it's starting now. Do you know anything about sleep paralysis?

Seeing spiders in a dream or waking vision is considered very favorable. You are not an abductee and there is nothing wrong with you. Write down your dreams in a book so you can remember them and review them. They can be very helpful and frightening dreams become less and less. I am a psychic and can see into these things.

There is a really interesting thread about your spiders, and you can see what's going on over here:

There are several 3 pages before you hit the spider connection, but I think is well worth it if you are really having these issues.

This can be a side effect of meds such as antidepressants. I have taken Elavil for sleep, migraines, & chronic pain. After I started taking it, I started seeing images such as spiders for only a few seconds after I awakened. This became less frequent after time passed. Another nurse I worked with it stopped taking it for his migraines due to these same side effects. Another friend had to stop taking Prozac many years ago after she started seeing nonexistent spiders crawling on her.

Almost forgot to add: some supplements that can increase serotonin like antidepressants do are: 5-HTP & St John's wort They are in some over the counter sleep, anxiety & mood remedies. I am not sure that these can cause the same side effects, but they can Serotonin Syndrome when taken with some antidepressants & should not be taken with them. When I was not taking Elavil, I took a sleep remedy with the 5-HTP in it & experienced dreams that were much more vivid & easily remembered.
