This is one of those stories I never tell people, mainly because I don’t believe in ghosts. But this story is one that I will never forget because of the people involved and where it happened.
See there was this bar in Houston back in the 70’s. It was one of those places that had an effect on people. Hard to explain but people got attached to the place, partly because of the people who ran it. They had a way of making friends with all their customers. The place was one a of a kind. People would come in after work to relax. They had pool tables, a dance floor, a restaurant. They had it all. It was a very popular place.
My parents were friends with the owners. They used to go to tailgate parties together because they had season tickets to the Houston Oilers. My dad would go there after work to shoot pool. He was probably one of the best pool shooters in the world. That’s not an exaggeration. The pool sharks would come in just to lose to him.
Anyway, one day the wife died. She had cancer that they didn’t catch in time. Everyone was devastated. The husband was especially distraught. He refused to go into the women’s bathroom because it reminded him of her. She used to keep the women’s bathroom spotless. And so the bathroom got dirty.
so all of a sudden, when he would open up the bar in the morning he would find the cleaning supplies stacked in the middle of the dance floor. At first he thought it was a practical joke, and in poor taste. But it kept happening, and not just that. He started finding chairs stacked in the middle of the dance floor too. The employees were getting seriously concerned. They called the police.
After they explained what was going on they decided to post a squad car outside the bar and watch the building when it was closed. The building is a stand alone and the doors are solid steel. The back door is barricaded with a steel bar so it can’t be opened from outside. There is is no way into the building but the front door guarded by a cop.
It kept happening. The police would watch the front door closed at night and opened the next day. They witnessed the phenomenon. They too got seriously concerned. They filed a report but wanted nothing to do with it from that point. Cops can’t stop ghosts. Stuff inside was being re-arranged night after night. Customers found out about it and they knew it was the wife. She always kept that bathroom clean and her husband wasn’t doing it.
so he finally he gave in and hired someone to start cleaning the women’s bathroom. And what do know, the phenomenon stopped. People were freaked out. My parents were too. This place was legendary, but the husband couldn’t continue. He closed the bar and sold it. It was the end of an era.
This story is documented and there were police reports verifying the happenings. Like I said, I don’t believe in ghosts but I can’t deny this story. It happened.
