Multiple States Wanting To “Ditch the Switch” Have to Wait for Congress to Act on Daylight Saving

By The Daily Sheeple | Sean Walton

Published on November 2, 2019

Was your state one of the many that voted this year to adopt permanent daylight-saving time? If so, you are probably wondering why you still have to “fall back” on Sunday morning.

The problem is that even though your state legislature voted for permanent daylight-saving time, it can’t be enacted without congressional approval of the Sunshine Protection Act.

There are proposals in both the House and the Senate to amend the Uniform Time Act of 1966 and allow states to adopt permanent daylight saving time if they choose, but despite the bills being introduced repeatedly, there has been no congressional action taken to advance the “Sunshine Protection Act of 2019”

The idea to “ditch the switch” or “lock the clock” is not a new one. Over the past two years, more than 30 states have signaled an interest in opting out of the shift, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.

It is a shame that states are not permitted to regulate themselves and instead have to wait for congressional approval that will likely never come.

A ‘dramatic’ look at how the switch is ‘tearing us apart’ – What Time Is It?
