In some municipalities efforts have been made for them. In most, not.
Those that have depended on people assisting them have been left adrift for the most part.
It is sick and depressing that the richest country in the world, at least up to now, have been content to ignore or criminalize the least among us. Now there is even less to help them.
In my community they are virtually invisible - I don't know where to go to find them. If I could find them, even being an at-risk older adult, I would do whatever I could do to help them. But a prosperous community does not want us to know if they are, let alone where they are.

Here in California, they've been placed in hotels. Poor owners!

The sad part is Trump has reduced unemployment to the lowest in decades, you would think the homeless would reduce as they might find jobs and get on their feet. Sadly many of the encampments and skid row, they have adapted to living on the streets, a lot of drugs and other perils. Many refused to go into these hotels for help, or to shelters. This week on of the LA mission centers was hit pretty hard with the virus, so the homeless populations are now being hit, and many probably not know of, because they are out of the mainstream of society.

You equate causation to correlation and that's asinine. Low unemployment has nothing to do with meaningful work that pays people well. You act like those slums are a choice when the truth is many of those people are working and these handouts to boost unemployment are only giving people piss poor wages as a soapbox for pro-Trumpers to act like the economy was doing well.
It's false to think a job means "getting off your feet" in this country.
Again, looking at unemployment as a metric of success is daft. A hundred years ago unemployment was low, ten more years back everyone was employed and nearly everyone got scraps to live on.
Trump is not helping. Neither party is helping. Both are involved in partisan posturing with the only goal of moving wealth up. Trump is a demagogue and flashing unemployment like it means something in the grand scheme means little when you look at what a majority of work pays.
But hey, the more slaves to corporations we have, the better off the country is right? Not to mention the fact that the unemployment metrics only count people who are actively looking for work.
Think about that, the unemployed are more employed than they have been ever, and yet you still see a massive divide in poverty and wealth? That would imply that more jobs are NOT helping as your original statement does. Maybe unemployment ratings aren't something to brag about when you blatantly admit they aren't having a palpable effect on a massive population's standard of living.
"Jobs" are not going to fix this.

25 million people just lost their jobs, looking at bleek futures, evictions snd foreclosures. A month ago saying they hate their jobs, acted like oppressed victims of slaves to corporations. How many wish they had that shitty job back today? It took a virus for them to get the homeless off the streets, putting them im hotels, feeding, buying brand new trailers and making cities out of beach campgrounds for them. Also asking motor home owners to donate the use of them. In 2 months anyone think they will be able to tell them, get out and go back to skid row? Meanwhile homeowners will have foreclosures and evictions. This is going to backfire when lockdowns end. Lawyers will file motions to not allow them to be kicked out of all these “temporary” places. It’s a big problem I do not know the answer but when gov programs allow gaming the system better than looking for a job, who pays for it? Where do all these homeless return to? Or are the taxpayers going to indefinitely profide these things locked into legal action one at a time. If you owned a motel used, not only having to gut thrm out to restore them, may take forever to return to regular business. Those brand new trailers and motor home used will probably be deemed total losses, like pushing jet fighters off AC carrier decks when wars end. It’s a mess!

I assume you are from SF Bay Area, I’m in LA. We both have major homeless populations, that has affected stores and businesses where encampments line streets, the mayor in SF declared going to the bathroom on the streets was a human rights issue. Stores broken into, owners harassed, customers driven away, streets full of needles, feces, how would you like this on your store front and your life’s work destroyed? Homeless people in motor homes had inundated industrial areas breaking in, taking water, even bootlegging wiring out of streetlight posts illegally, and dumping their sewage tanks in gutters. It’s not just politicians who are assholes in this, the homeless in many cases are bigger assholes, breaking into places, drugs, stealing, they are not all inmocent victims. The cops ignore a lot of the problems because where do we put them so we all have to live around it.

Too much of California's trade relies on tourism and hotels hosting non-Californians. I can't count the number of people from France I've seen visiting Wine Country to spend such ridiculous amounts of money on luxury while people starve.
Poor tourists not being able to rent a room and keep it from locals the state has been inept at dealing with for decades. It's to the point where so many people want to act like the homeless are some "other" when in reality that's what the state is designed to do to us: to move wealth up.
Shame on those of you who ignore this fact when you see the increasing numbers of homelessness. You're witnessing such an extreme level of poverty caused by this movement, and you want to blame the victims of it?
The homeless are people society has already screwed in some way, and some of you would do well to remember that you could become one of them in an instant.
Locally the homeless are being let be while some asshole politician wants to make a shelter that will only serve less than a percent of the local population. It's just posturing for rich liberal votes and we're seeing a lot of this virtue signalling here.
The way I see it, if these people keep being treated like trash, things can only get worse. Let the people have their hotel rooms. Angry mobs of the diseased poor have proven to be far worse.
And please drop this "nanny state" bullshit act. A society exists to support itself, not just further selfish libertarian ideas. The costs of ignoring a population out of stigma and spite far outweigh the costs of taking care of said population. The only credibility to that idea comes from the fact that the US is an imperialist government bent on acting like a nanny to the world, and has the power to act as a fascist state when it pleases. They provide unyielding support to "protect us" on foreign soil while letting citizens die of poverty domestically.
It's disgusting to think that people asking for a basic standard of living want a "nanny state" while they also want the government to take care of private business, and take care of military threats, and take care of e.t.c.
Face it, if you think this way, you only do when it's convenient for your whimsical criticism.
Be cautious, be safe, and remember that these are people who society is failing right now.
