My friend Ola Tedin from beautiful Ystad sends me this story today from his paper, Ystads Allehanda. The lede:

A class of grade eight students in southern Sweden was asked to write essays about their sexual fantasies and experiences for a school assignment.

"Entitled 'The First Time' (Forsta gangen), the assignment instructed students to imagine they were talking to a close friend and write about the past sexual escapades they might divulge in confidence." A parent told the paper that the assignment requires students to write at least a half page with "passion."

Julian Assange should feel lucky he did not get 8th grade writing assignment

Some things are universal. Some Ystad parents are perplexed and angry. One asking, "Can they really do this?"

While school administrators seem clueless as to why any parent would question their greater wisdom.

A teacher from the school expressed surprise that the assignment had upset parents, claiming that most students appreciated the exercise, which was part of a cooperative effort between the biology, sex and well being, and Swedish-language departments.

However, Maria Ahnlund told the newspaper she took the criticism "very seriously" and said she would review the assignment next year to see if there is a more "neutral" approach to the topic.

What?!
The teacher sounds like a perv.
In the USA asking under age kids that would be considered verbal molestation.

Why? Are you having fun?

God forbid we talk about sex, but it's perfectly acceptable to blow people up on your TV or watch war movies.
Sex? No, that shit's taboo.

Yeah..but asking young kids to describe their sexual fantasies for you.
I DON'T THINK SO!!!
Pretty sure it's MAJORLY illegal in the US (unless you are their shrink)
Can you say pedaphile?

I suppose describing sexual fantasies is a bit over the top.

But seriously as a society we have our priorities seriously messed up with regards to what is socially acceptable and what's not. Sexuality is a taboo subject whereas extreme violence is perfectly acceptable.

It's creepy the specific nature of the assignment, but I'm unsure of whether or not that's the primary issue as opposed to the assignment simply being sexually oriented.

I do get your point about violence vs. sexuality, I should mention.

I think I am one of the few people that didn't have a problem, early on, when it was decided to put warning labels on music, movies, games, etc..

It's been shown that the media..on a growing mind and psyche... can desensitze that developing mind towards things..like violence and sexual expliciteness, etc... (almost a form of conditioning, really..are we innadvertantly conditioning growing minds to turn a blind eye to acts of perversity and violence..as if it were okay and normal? seems so..and would explain a-lot about the direction our culture seems to be going, in general)

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I can think of no legitimate reason for any public school teacher to inquire about the sexual fantasies of 12, 13 and 14 year old kids. I don't believe this has anything to do with education but, is only about the perversions of the teachers.
