Had to put him down this morning, despite being an old pro, it's never an easy task. He had a good life, a long life, but in the end it's better this way. To put an end to suffering and discomfort comes easy for some, mostly those who've never had to do it.

I swore that last time I'd not go through this ever again, and yet here I am once more, as if I'd never left. The wife and kids tagged along and I'm not sure if either appreciated the gesture as much as I did...............it was a bit rough on the oldest, the youngest just wants another as soon as possible.

Seems odd not having him to look after, not hearing his familiar noises.
Rest easy old Tink.........

Never easy for sure, but when you are an animal lover we know those days come. Tough on all of us, and heart wrenching for the kids. Consider that if the kids may want a new pet, they are making a home for a pet who needs love and family that will care for them. We never forget the ones that lived thier lives, and we make good lives for another just waiting for love.

We have a house full of cats, our last dog passed away a few years ago, but we have always had dogs our entire married lives.

Oh Cole..God bless
we love our animals, so..
The last few years all my cats (I had six) got old and one by one, I had to put them down..it was brutal
I have one cat and an old dog left.
They are hanging on by a thread and I expect in a year, two tops, they will be gone.
I had animals for most of my life..after they are gone I am going to try and see how long I can go without one..just to enjoy the freedom a bit.

Why? Are you having fun?

Yeah thanks..................never an easy thing but in the end it's best for the animal in question.

I'm not sure how that freedom will work out, time will tell. I am however thankful for one thing that day................I had to run a package to UPS and one of the pickup/drop off stores is directly next to Gander Mountain............I needed a new pair of inserts for my boots so I killed two birds with one stone. Dropped off the package and went in the store..what did I find??????? Laugh Laugh

Yep.................local shelter selling pure bred puppies right there in the store.....some kind of promotion...Pits, Hounds, Labs.............what a mess people crawling all over the little things................place was packed with people..........10 deep at the gun counter.. 😮

anyway I was grateful that I was by myself and the girls were with Mom doing the grocery shopping. 😉

We did receive a sympathy card from the vet yesterday. Thought that was a kind gesture.

the sympathyc ards help, don't they?
the last cat I had to put down..I had a very special bond wiht..my Moses
The vet that did him sent me a sympathy card and a mold of his paw print (I had not requested this, fyi)
I cried when it arrived in the mail because I felt it was my Moses finding a way to say he was okay and loved me.

Not long, after he passed. I had a really vivid dream of all my cats coming to me and thanking me and saying goodbye to me and going off together. (the rest of them never got close really, to the one I have left..I am glad she gets some years to herself, my patches, of not gettign picked on or bullied by the others)
I cried when I woke up from that dream.
I had them before my son came along and they were seriously..my children..I loved them in that way.
When he came along I made sure he knew they were his siblings and not just pets. (not sur ehow that will play out on his psyche, later..lol)

I had a dog..a shleter dog that I loved...he was older and he got cancer and I had to put him down after only having him for two years (I spoiled him rotten in those two years)
I felt awful putting him down.
Had a-lot of guilt over it.
He came to me in a vivid dream..showing me him, happy and running around, barking in a green field..I got that all he felt for me was love and gratitude.
I thanked him for the visit, as it was healing for me.

anyway..our pets..love them

and..sounds like you will have another dog very soon
