I'm so tired of reading 'u' for you, or all the other new language (aka lingo).  OK  I get slang.  We made it up ourselves.  Think about it, where does O.K. come from?  Do the kids now ask where the word 'you' comes from?  Do they question?

What I see in my whole lifetime, and then some, to really dumb down America.  I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed.  But, I am sharp enough to cut bread.

My grandma had English as her second language.  Yet her English was better than mine.  Better than what I read today.  Then again, when her parents immigrated here, there was no welfare.  That was when immigrants came here to wave the American flags, and be American.  Just imagine if all Danes told everyone else to speak Danish, not your language.  Even though I moved to your country, I want you to adapt to my ways.  You need to speak my language.  How funny would that be?

Yet, that is what seems to be happening.

Sorry, I seem to be blending a couple different things on my mind.  I'll blame it on (roll the dice) beer!  Yeah, it's the beer's fault.  😀  Blame the Irish in me...

Seriously, please at least try to not only speak English when in the US.  Type it as well.  I can forgive a lot, just try is all I ask.

Nesaie, our generation, and believe me I did not do well in English or spelling, but they no longer are teaching kids cursive writing. We grew up with a grade for penmanship. Remember those classroom signs that had the alphabet letters, and what a letter looked like printed and in cursive?  We learned how to write upper and lower case, and how to actually write a word connecting each letter in longhand.  I think all we teach now is how to print letters.

Maybe because more and more parents both work, maybe homework help with the kids has diminished, practicing handwriting is long gone, along with so many traditional things. So it was easier for the schools to eliminate cursive writing, and consider it "not necessary" for education.  Now every kid has a ipad in school, computers at home, that type and have printers. I wonder at what grade they just expect reports that are computer printed, IMHO reports should all be handwritten through the 12th grade, calculators not allowed in class, no wonder our educational level is down so far.

Now every kid has a cell phone, that can do all these things, and instead of passing notes in class, they are texting all over the world. Alone with that has evolved texting and internet abbreviations that are almost a language in itself.  I don't get most of them, because we were taught how to write things out, but todays generation are savvy to all these texting symbols, emojis, abbreviations, like I just did above (IMHO).

First day of school we all had teachers tell class, you need a 3-ring notebook, lined paper, pens, pencils, erasers, protractor and ruler, and a list of supplies. You would go out that night with Mom and buy required supplies. schools can no longer require this, because of lawsuits that filed for schools to give all these things to you, consequently teachers do spend money out of their own pockets to supply kids, because many are in poverty, and the school just doesn't provide them. My daughter has given crayons out to kids who have never seen a brand new box of crayons.

Give it another decade or two, this internet is ruining society, and our educational level will go further down the drain with it.

Oh wow wow wow Greeney!  You've provoked so many thoughts in me.

Where do I start?

My mom went to private Catholic schools.  Her penmanship is art.  For me, my signature is like my father's a scribble.  Anyway, they used to make kids write things over and over until we got it right.  But, I never got in trouble in those days.  I still haven't learned how to use that computerized things at the bank.

As far as the crayon thing...ugh...I remember when the big box of crayons was a big deal.  You know, the one with the sharpener on the back?  I guess that made me rich.  😀  In my heritage, the women in my family, on one side is nurses, the other is teachers.  I started school to become a teacher, high school though.  Found I made more money in tech.  Now I find myself taking care of mom...but I digress...

A buddy set me up on Netflix.  It took me a year to tire of the Western reruns.  But a day or two of binging on Netflix?  I'm so over it.  It's so stupid.  One concept may be good, but then they go all soap opera on me.  The so called comedies aren't funny.  They're not clever, like a play on word scene.  It is all about bodily functions.  Um guys?  That isn't humo!

I see people who don't interact on the street.  They're looking at their phones.  Heck, they don't know the difference between their, there, and there're.  UGH!

And, I'm glad your daughter is a teacher.  😀  It is a hard road to tow...

Does this mean that I'm getting old?
