...And examine the product specs carefully. A short time ago I bought a wireless printer online. I did not want to buy a wireless printer but it seems now that is all that is coming off the assembly line. Modern Progress. I proceeded to follow the instructions of hooking up to my laptop. After two hours I got all the way to the print test page thinking I'm done. But oh noooo. Before I could start to print anything this barrier was thrown in front of me called the Terms of Service Agreement of which I must agree to or I could go no further. I was just about to hit the "agree' click as I usually do without reading, figuring it was the standard disclaimer, you-are-responsible, common sense thing. Then I heard it, harps on high or something and decided to read the contract. OMG! I was so shocked and appalled that I refused to agree which left me with a very expensive paper weight sitting on my desk that I could not send back because the Terms wouldn't allow it and I could not return it to a brick and mortar because I could not PRINT the receipt that proved I bought it. At any rate this is what the contract said and I had to paraphrase it because the Terms of Service PROHIBIT the copying of Canon's documentation.
Intro..
...If you do not agree to the terms of service you cannot use the printer...
...You must be a legal adult in your country or you cannot use the printer...
...You must register with Canon or you cannot use the printer...
.1...You must connect the printer to the internet or you cannot use the printer...
.2...You must register with Canon or you cannot use the printer...Canon can reject your registration for any reason where you will not be allowed to use the printer...
.3...Canon can terminate your registration for any reason at any time without prior notice to you. If you do not agree, you cannot use the printer...
.4..You may cancel the registration at any time. You must cancel the registration if you sell the printer. If you do so you can no longer use the printer...
...Canon may use your information however they choose according to Privacy Policy. If you do not accept the Privacy Policy, you cannot use the printer...
...You cannot use the printer for any practices Canon deems inappropriate, illegal or prejudicial. If you do not agree you cannot use the printer.
...Canon does not issue or recognize any warranty regarding the printer. If you do not agree, you cannot use the printer...
...Canon cannot be held responsible for any damage to the user involving the printer...
...Canon printers are designed that info between printers may be shared by users. However a user not related to the sender or receiver may steal info out of the air and use it for anything they choose and Canon cannot be held responsible...
...You agree to repay, defend and hold harmless any Canon subsidiary, affiliate or subcontractor against all claims, liability, damage, loss, cost expense or fee arising from anything you print...
...Canon may change the terms of service at any time for any reason without notifying you...
..Canon may and will sell you out to the authorities and will not be responsible for any damages to you...
...Canon is not responsible for any 3rd party who intercepts your printed information...
.2..All information that is printed will be relinquished to Google and Microsoft, Amazon or Alexa who may use it for any purpose...
...All Canon script is protected electronically by copyright laws and may not be copied including this Terms of Service Contract or the Privacy Policy.
...All communications with Canon shall be done electronically, no phone calls or in-person visits...
..If Canon breaks any contractual law you as the user will agree that they have not broken any laws and may not testify against them...
..Even after your registration is severed with Canon their policies against you will still be in effect...
...Your contract with Canon will be governed by the laws of Japan and a broken contract shall be tried in Japanese court of law.
As I was contemplating whether to place an ad and sell or throw it out the window, I noticed a recessed bay near the power cord. It looked like an old fashioned usb port. I searched the hard copy instructions and re-reviewed the online specs and there was no mention of a usb port. So I bought a usb cord anyway and sure enough it fit. I connected to my laptop and it took less than a minute for the internal software to establish a link. I'm up and running. See how these MFs do us. They want to force us to accept there new bs, no questions asked even if it means leaving out certain key information like if you don't want to print wirelessly you may opt for manual AND in doing so you don't have to agree to nothin' all you have to do is PRINT! I was lucky or blessed this time but it taught me a valuable lesson. READ THE TERMS OF SERVICE BEFORE YOU BUY!
