Since some of my private warnings are going unanswered, I am going to post this publicly. Any additional offenses will result in a temporary ban on your account. Here is the short reason why: copyrighted material can not be used unless it is sourced. I believe, and will defense, that the use of copyrighted material on The Black Vault is considered FAIR USE under the U.S. copyright law.
This is why this appears on every page:
In accordance with Title 17 U.S.C. Section 107, the material on this site is distributed without profit to those who have expressed an interest in receiving the included information for research and educational purposes. For more information go to: http://www.law.cornell.edu/usc...../107.shtml
If you wish to use copyrighted material from this site for purposes of your own that go beyond "fair use", you must obtain permission from the copyright owner.
In short, I welcome you using news articles here! In fact, I encourage it. It helps this resource grow for all of us, keeps it legal and legit, and most of all, helps us all learn just a little bit more about the topic at hand. But I was shocked that posts had no title, and no source, and were written like the poster wrote it. *I* can get in trouble with this, not you, since I am the site owner. So, I am asking, you all follow this simple "netiquette" rule of citing your sources, because if not, you will be banned and removed. I will be left with no choice.
I appreciate your understanding, and here are instructions from the Rules & Regulations on how to source:
"The Black Vault Rules" wrote: 6. Source third-party material
We do welcome third-party material here. This includes, but is not limited to, news articles, reports, etc. We welcome you to "copy and paste" the material - but do not claim it as your own. We ask you source the material at the bottom of the work, so others know it is not your own, and is sourced properly.
The best way to do this, is use a "Source: http://source.com" at the bottom of the article, and use the following code:
This is pasted copyrighted material
This will display like this:
This is pasted copyrighted material
At the bottom of the article/copyrighted material, please put a, "Source: http://Link.com"
Thank you all for your patience and understanding!
