This is one of the most critical questions we need to answer before this starts -- should we be announcing our presence, our location and our technological inferiority to the Cosmos?

I agree.  While I believe many ETs are peaceful, this sort of thing could certainly attract malevolent ones looking for Earth's resources.  However, it could also enable communication with positive beings that haven't yet visited Earth.  However, I personally feel that there are both malevolent and benevolent ETs on Earth right now.  And I believe the benevolent ones already are protecting Earth.  You can see evidence with this in the way that UFOs have been known to disable nuclear weapons  (e.g. protecting humanity from itself).  In fact, I feel that benevolent beings actually may have played a role in the creation of mankind.

I have done quite a few television shows that touch on this very topic, and after doing show, I feel very strongly we should NOT be broadcasting our existence.

Most recently, I worked in the concept of why we should not, in a show I produced and wrote for the history channel called: Doomsday: 10 Ways the World Will End, and my episode was a scientific look at an alien attack. http://www.history.com/shows/d...../episode-9
