Otherkin and Therians

Otherkin is generally used more-so for those who connect more with creatures of myth.

Therians are those who feel that a part of them are animal such as a wolf, cat, snake, or platypus.

One of the more common explanations for this is reincarnation. Many otherkin and therians believe that they were another creature in a past life and a part of that remained with them. Another explanation is that the soul was born into the wrong body.

Vampire

Vampires are those who don't have a substantial level of psychic energy and must obtain it in other ways to live a more healthy life. Psi (psychic) vampires usually obtain the needed energy from other's psychic energy, with there being several subsets of these types. Sanguinarians can usually also take psychic energy, but also get the energy from blood drinking. Many people disagree that vampires truly fit into the Otherkin category.

A common explanation for vampirism is that the individual has a "hole" in their aura, and thus cannot keep a healthy level of psychic energy.

Awakening

Most Otherkin believe that one cannot be turned, but must be born. Awakening is simply the term for the time that one realizes that he/she is spiritually something else. It is different for each individual, in that it happens at different ages and may last different amounts of time.

Shifts

Many Otherkin believe that they experience non-physical shifts. These may include mental, astral, dream, or shadow shifts.

Role-Players and Trolls

Many people in the Otherkin community claim to have extra-human abilities, such as physical shifts or immortality. These people are more likely to be role players, liars/trolls, or mentally ill. Claiming these sort of abilities is highly frowned upon in the Otherkin community.
