OPINION is split over whether an orange "fireball" spotted in the skies of Flintshire was a UFO.
Since we revealed on Tuesday that an orange orb was seen above Buckley, the debate between readers has been raging.
More Flintshire residents have contacted the Leader saying they too saw the "orb" and think it could have been a sign of the supernatural.
But others have offered a much simpler explanation – that it was a paper bag with a candle below it.
The original sighting was made by Lisa Tinsdeall-Hughes, 36, of Bryn Awelon, Buckley, who was watching TV late on Friday night when she spotted something in the sky.
She said: "I looked out of my window and saw what looked like an orange ball of fire.
"It was quite big, about three or four metres wide, and it was travelling up into the sky, circling around getting higher and higher.
"Eventually it got so high and it just looked like a star.
"I was stood outside watching it for about 15 minutes and there was no noise at all – it was completely silent.
"I've never seen anything like it before. I really don't know what it was but it could have been a UFO."
Rosemary Conwy, 41, of Greenfield, near Holywell, says she too saw the orb and thinks it was a UFO.
She said: "It was about 11.30pm on Friday and I was sat outside with my partner and nephew.
"We looked up and saw a big bright light with an orange glow underneath.
"It couldn't have been an aircraft because there was no noise at all. I ran upstairs to get my binoculars but by the time I came down again it had disappeared.
"I've never seen anything like it before."
But a Mold resident contacted us through our website, saying: "The so-called UFO was a paper bag with a candle below it.
"People can buy these special paper bags that you put a special candle in. The heat makes the bag rise."
The debate comes hot on the heels of other bizarre sightings around the region.
Five orange orbs were seen above Mynydd Isa last Christmas Day, while similar sightings were reported in Mold, Chester, Sandycroft and Broughton.
Sychdyn residents saw orange lights above their homes on New Year's Day.
The first sighting of the orange orbs came from Leigh and Lynn Williams, of Borras, Wrexham, in July of last year, and explanations offered have included "UFO balloons" and Chinese lanterns.
