Introduction

First off, welcome to the project! We definitely appreciate your time and consideration on helping out with this project.

As you can tell, it is a tremendous undertaking. The Black Vault has grown beyond my expectations, and the encyclopedia project that you are viewing now has also reached heights we never expected. As the MUFON Archive continues to expand, many of the files you see lack a proper summary and/or listing of the files' contents.

Well, the wonder of this project is that ANYONE from AROUND THE GLOBE can come online, edit pages and take part in expanding this community. It is free to join (and required if you want to edit pages). This can be done by following the links on the upper right corner of your screen to register for a free account.

How to Help

There are many ways to help! But the most help is needed in the MUFON Archive in indexing and summarizing the MUFON case files. These files, collected by MUFON over many years, are quite sizeable in some cases. We need your help to write a summary, and if possible, to index the files on the appropriate pages for reference.

Confused? Don't be. Let's take an example. Load the UFOs_and_the_U.S._Air_Force page in a new browser window (so you don't lose this page), and you can follow along. To do so, right click on the link, and click "open in new window".

As you can see, there is no detailed summary of the file, as well as nothing in the file contents. If you are logged in, you will see an "edit" tab at the top of the page. This allows you to do just that - edit. Although there are some codes you may have to become familiar with, writing an index/summary is really not difficult. It requires very little - if any - knowledge of the language to use the special effects.

I have set up an extensive HELP section that better details the ins and outs of editing. And I assure you, it isn't hard to do, and your help is greatly needed and much appreciated!

Need more help?

Ok, so my explanation was not quite enough? That's OK - it does take some getting used to! I highly suggest that you play around on the site a bit and get used to its' many features. There are TONS of them! Then edit some of the pages and play around with previewing them. Please do not press "save" unless you are saving something that is WORTH saving! But if this should happen, there are a few of us who keep close watch on the pages, and will reverse any unwanted changes. Each version of the page is saved, so even though I hope nothing is changed inadvertently, we can always revert back to a previous version if necessary.

If you need any additional help, you can write to the creator of The Black Vault, John Greenewald, Jr. on the CONTACT page.
