After a series of test maneuvers inside and above Challenger's payload bay, McCandless went "free-flying" to a distance of 320 feet away from the Orbiter. This stunning orbital panorama view shows McCandless out there amongst the black and blue of Earth and space.

This is not part of the shuttle. Nor does it appear in the pictures before or after this one...

Hi Will, The answer I have for this one might not be as good as you want to hear but I do my best to present what I get. I went out and picked up the picture from NASA and processed the area in question. As far as I can evaluate it, it looks like a pixel group malfunction. Most of the time if I get these, I just pass them by but since it was a request I posted it for you. Latter when time I would like to run this photo over my earth Moon math program to see if the proportions are correct. Keep them coming and thanks for the request.....
