Friend of mine posted this recently, and figured it would be interesting to some folks here. Thoughts on this? No on should be held, "...indefinitely without trial...", in my opinion.

"The Senate on Thursday blocked a second attempt to spare U.S. citizens from potential indefinite military detentions and was set to vote on a third effort to do the same later in the day."

This is silly. It makes it possible for US authorities to detain anyone, even U.S. citizens, "suspected" of terrorist activities. It also protects the government from liability due to its suspension of Habeas Corpus.

Edit - Well, I need to read better.

"17 (1) UNITED STATES CITIZENS.—The requirement to detain a person in military custody under
19 this section does not extend to citizens of the United
20 States."

So it doesn't extend to US citizens?
