Though fan access to shooting is very restrictive (certainly in comparison to UK filming!), tantalising filming details have slowly trickled through via various members of cast and crew on Twitter, including Director of Photography Nathaniel Goodman, Fashion Designer Alana Stone and Costume Designer Shawna Trpcic - plus a commentary of tidbits from the official production office feed, BBC Torchwood!

I saw a sorts teaser for it today on STARZ (that channel is getting so fricken good with the mini series')

I was watching 'Sparticus:Gods of the Arena' tonight (awesome, by the way) at the end they mentioned Starz Origionals coming up this year and Torchwood was on the list (along with Camelot and some other promising looking series...I think one was called Magic City)

THE Gower’s stunning coastline now has even more reason to be described as out of this world – after sci-fi hit Torchwood moved its filming there from Los Angeles.

Crews from the Doctor Who spin-off have been filming on Rhossili Beach for the show’s fourth series this week, where actors John Barrowman and Eve Myles are reprising their roles as Captain Jack Harkness and Gwen Cooper.

The new 10-part international version of Torchwood is being subtitled Miracle Day after its startling plot, which sees the end of death on Earth – and examines the overnight population issues that creates.

Speaking of the US-UK co-production, which will air later this year, Torchwood writer Russell T Davies said: “One thing I’ve quite enjoyed is the little jokes in the show about Brits feeling lost in America and Americans not knowing where Wales is.

“When I first began working on the show some six years ago I was quite confident that we had made quality TV but I had not expected it to be as big as it was.”

And back in his home city, Mr Davies also said he would love to work with another Swansea exile: 41-year-old Oscar winner Catherine Zeta Jones.

He said: “If I could work with any person in the world it would be Catherine Zeta Jones.”

North West Evening MailNewsTV star gives insight into acting world
Published at 13:12, Monday, 31 January 2011

BUDDING actors quizzed a TV star during the first youth film festival in Furness.

Lachlan Nieboer, who has appeared in Torchwood, gave youngsters an insight into the world of acting when he appeared for a question and answer session at The Forum in Barrow.

The visit was part of the two-day MediaShip 2011 festival, which included a number of interactive workshops to allow young people to learn more about the film industry.

During the event, Mr Nieboer described the concept of method acting, which involves living as a character in the run-up to a performance.

He said: “In two words, it’s ‘being real’. All actors want to be real, to be believable and naturalistic. Method acting is a way of doing that.”

The actor was asked how he prepares to go on stage and what it was like to work alongside the main star of Torchwood, John Barrowman.

Mr Nieboer said: “I got thrown in the deep end a bit with Torchwood. I joined at the end of the second series and they all knew each other and I didn’t know anyone. It was amazing to be around John Barrowman, he is really exciting, and when he’s in a room, he’s in a room and you know it!”

During the festival, Mr Nieboer also took some time to do some scenes alongside Jassy Earl, a young actress from Haverigg who recently studied at the National Youth Theatre.

Asked about Barrow and his expectations of the area, Mr Nieboer said: “I didn’t have any expectations as such, but I’ve found it to be an amazing hub for film and industry activity.

I’ve got some relatives in Appleby. The film festival here is great and there are so many keen young people, which is great.”

The two-day festival was organised by Signal Films.

It also included teaching youngsters how to put on horror make-up and the basics of cartoon animation.

Mr Nieboer and Barrow and Furness MP, John Woodcock, presented prizes to the youngsters at an awards ceremony at the end of the festival.

It wasn’t just Doctor Who that was drawing public attention over the last week. Torchwood has been shooting some exciting scenes of its own back in Wales.

Wales Online reported on some explosive filming involving John Barrowman (Jack), Eve Myles (Gwen), Kai Owen (Rhys) and Mekhi Phifer (Rex). And it looks like Miracle Day will kick off with a bang.

An episode will see Gwen and Rhys – who now live in a coastal hideaway – hunted down. The pair manage to escape in a jeep along with Jack and Rex, but a helicopter then proceeds to chase them down a beach.

A shootout ensues and Gwen naturally decides the best course of action is to blow the helicopter with an RPG!

The gang look on in shock as the helicopter blows up near Gwen’s cottage!

Well it’s one way to solve a problem.

This will be a great storyline. I'd like to think the helicopter is one of the imfamous "Black Helicopters" in UFO stories.
I've heard from another Doctor Who fan somethings from the upcoming season/series that leads me to believe this is
a strong possibility.

Let's hear it for Torchwoods resident surviving gal.

Eve Myles has discussed the forthcoming new series of Torchwood. The actress reprises her role of Gwen Cooper alongside John Barrowman and Kai Owen for the fourth season of the Doctor Who spin-off. The ten-part series, titled Torchwood: Miracle Day, is being co-produced by the BBC and the American broadcaster Starz.

"The theme is something that's going to affect... and touch everybody. Everybody's going to relate to it. I'm just very, very passionate about the character and very, very passionate about the project. The wonderful thing with this character is that she can't help herself but be part of Torchwood, whether she wants to or not," she said. "She's constantly drawn to Torchwood and whatever happens, it's her life. She will always be the normal person in an extraordinary situation, and she loves it." - Eve Myles in TV Squad

Filming for Torchwood: Miracle Day is currently taking place in America although production did move to Wales, and Cardiff, a few weeks ago. Confirmed new cast members for the new series include Bill Pullman, Lauren Ambrose and Mekhi Phifer. Writers on the new series include Ryan Scott, John Shiban and Jane Espenson

After the excitement of the previous fortnight, last week was a relatively quiet week for the Torchwood cast and crew.

Eve Myles rejoined the team in Los Angeles, with John Barrowman, Mekhi Phifer, Dichen Lachman, Michael Colbert and Bill Pullman all involved with filming during the course of the week.

Filming was away in private throughout this week, with Monday kicking off at the Orlando International Airport. No other exterior locations were reported last week, with other work taking place back at the Warner Brothers Studios lot. As usual, followers were able to pick up little pieces of gossip from cast and crew via Twitter.

Times cited within the reports are in Los Angeles local time.

Filming: Week Six:

MondayMonday saw the Torchwood team at another airport, this time the Ontario International Airport in Los Angeles (filming took place at Cardiff International Airport three weeks previously). Mekhi Phifer and Dichen Lachman were reported to be on location. Meanwhile, Jane Espenson clarified some differences between the UK and US film schedules.

07:25 AS Had to be at work at 4:12am in Ontario. I have my Valentine,
Dichen Lachman, with me tho so that makes things a little better.
08:33 MC Had 5 am call at Ontario airport. Run slight risk of $11,000 fines
and it's cold as hell. This business is great!
11:52 BBC Big day at the Airport location today. We're Also beginning prep for

TuesdayEve Myles returned to production in the US, which sounded to be another 'bloody' affair according to Mekhi Phifer. Scenes today were back on the Warner Bros lot. As previously reported, whilst exteriors may have been filmed in Wales, the respective interiors have been shot back in the States, something Jane Espenson reports as meeting the Welsh cast's approval!

10:55 ST Beautiful Eve back with us today. Even slimmer after all the action
and -10 weather. Glad to have her back on set.
13:20 BBC Going to have an exciting reunion with wonderfully effervescent Eve Myles
this afternoon. Lets see what she's up to...

16:25 JE The Welsh people haven't objected to the interiors,
so I think they must be good!
16:38 JE The current thiller / arc / connected-story feel of TW is working
really well and is best done in shorter runs.
18:24 BBC "I'm terrified of Twitter because computers hate me, but

Friday
BBC Torchwood, via ImgMuAnother day on set, and more mysterious items that may or may not be what they seem! With conventions and holidays on the way nobody wanted another late night Friday, though Bill Pullman continued to keep everybody entertained as production completed for another week.

13:42 BBC It seems the line between salad dressing and

Bill is being awesome as usual.

Speaking of Bill Pullman, his fan site published a photo of him with John Barrowman in their Jack/Oswald mode!
SaturdayFriday brought an end to filming for the week, and an extended weekend was due with a holiday on Monday for Presidents Day, not to mention Jane Espenson and Doris Egan attending the GallifreyOne convention over the weekend too!

However, it wasn't a complete halt to proceedings:

01:20 BBC We're location scouting in a couple of hours!
That's right we work Saturday's in the US too!
(But let's be honest not a full days work)

Director of Photography Nate Goodman also commented on Torchwood so far ...

19:26 NG One week back from Wales. Saw some of Ep 1 cut together. Epic.
Not your mother's Torchwood...

Key to initials: AS - Alana Stone (fashion designer); BBC - BBC Torchwood (production office); DE - Doris Egan (writer); DL - Dichen Lachman; JE - Jane Espenson (writer); KE - Kim Evey (visitor); MC - Michael Colbert; MP - Mekhi Phifer (Rex Matheson); NG - Nate Goodman (director of photography); ST - Shawna Trpcic (costume designer)

With a short break for Presidents Day, production resumes Tuesday, though with Kai Owen confirming that he is flying out to Los Angeles on Wednesday it seems that the anticipated return to the Welsh shores for filming is not to be this week, after all!
