My wife and I just got back from vacation in the Smoky Mountains, namely Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Even though the leaves weren't quite out yet, and it was cloudy all week, it was still incredibly beautiful...I'd like to share just a few pics with you...You'll like these Nes and bloo!

Here we are at the top (and HELL no we didn't walk ) at the bottom, as we started up, it was 58 degrees, by the time we reached the top it was a balmy 36 degrees...a little chilly for a T-shirt and a light hoody.

Since it had been raining, there were waterfalls everywhere..here is one of our favorite finds

I am so luck to live where I live, you know how far I have to travel to get to a nice uninhabited mountain range? 10-30 kilometres in any direction, or if I go to the beach, we have an island or two that is within swimming distance if you swim where there are mountains, and no people.

This summer I'm trying to get friends and family to go backbacking for a couple of days, but most of the people I know are pansies.

No one likes the idea of carrying their bedding, food, water, and supplies up and down mountains. Too me, this sounds like a good opportunity for fun, and training. Two birds with one stone. Too them it sounds like an awful lot of work for nothing. Obviously can't go on my own, so I'm still in the looking for companions.

Those are great picture! I'm jealous, I haven't gotten out for a hike yet this year. Hopefully soon.

SRO, do you guys have the Mountaineers up there? They're a little expensive to join, but there are always people ready to go on week long hikes. Or, you may be able to find a small group in your area on line with people willing to go hiking. How far north do you live?
