A little recognized day in our history is today, and was the anniversary of the infamous D-day invasion of WW2. This operation that probably is one of the most guarded of all operations, and also the most massive in terms of men and equipment, turned the tide of the war. The armada of ships was mind boggling in size, as was all the supporting air support. No other military operation ever was, nor ever has been as massive as D-day. Hopefully we will never see anything like this ever again. The troops who hit the shores of Normandy faces unimaginable firepower, leaving thousands dead. Our Surviving WW2 veterans living today are fewer every year, whom we owe a our gratitude and admiration to. Most would be well in their 80's, and soon we will have none left of any WW2 combat veterans. Within the last year of so, the last surviving veteran of WW1 passed away.

I have often wondered how WW2 would have been different had we had the technology we have today with Lazer guided and GPS guided smart bombs, Stealth fighters and bombers, and the kind of anti tank missiles we have today. How cruise missiles and the kind of technology was able to gain air superiority, and knock out total communications in days during the middle east wars, how those things would have changed Normandy, as well as the war in Europe completely. The devastation from carpet bombing would not have been necessary, pinpoint targets would have been hit instead. The loss of life would have been completely different.

Thank You to all those brave people who participated in the D-day invasion.
