Rodney died accidentally with several drugs in his system. Found in the pool by his girlfriend toxicology confirmed drugs and alcohol were a factor. Rodney had been the subject of News for years following the beating by police that led to the LA riots. A muti-million dollar award was gone, Rodney had spent every dime, had several encounters with the law over the years. A sad Story!

Police have determined Rodney King's death was an accidental drowning and that he had numerous drugs such as PCP, cocaine and marijuana in his system when he died.

The San Bernardino County Coroner's Department plans to release an autopsy report on the Rialto man today.

"There's going to be no surprises. His death was ruled an accidental drowning," said Rialto police Capt. Randy DeAnda.

Police said in addition to illegal drugs, King also had a blood-alcohol level of .06 percent.

"The investigation is now completed and basically the autopsy and toxicology reinforces our conclusions," he said.

King died in June after he was found by his fiancee at the bottom of the backyard pool at his Rialto home.

King became famous in 1991, when a witness videotaped an altercation between King and Los Angeles police. In the video, police are seen beating King brutally. The video was subsequently broadcast by news outlets around the country, inflaming racial tensions.

Four police officers were charged with assault, and when they were acquitted, one of the most violent race riots in U.S. history broke out in Los Angeles.

.06 is pretty low. .08 or higher is needed to qualify for dui. iow, he would have been legal to drive with that much alcohol.

That was in additions to "numerous drugs such as PCP, cocaine and marijuana in his system when he died".
One can only assume this was a long term use of the combined useage, plus he passed out in or fell into the pool, plus he went into cardiac arrest. It took a long time to reach this final point with clumulative drug/alcohol abuse.
