Strange red orb and a bit of a light show.

I was out on my deck smoking just a few minutes ago and looked out towards I-10. Suddenly a red orb shot up from below the tree line, hovered for a few seconds then a bright ring of red light emiited from it and it shot straight up and out of sight. A few seconds later my home shook but there was no sound at all.

Earlier there was a helicopter in the area, have been helicopters in the skies here for the last few weeks. I don't know what to make of it but it was impressive to say the least.
