The power of belief can produce amazing results. For example, by believing we can go to the moon, a group of humans working towards a common goal and sharing a collective belief turned a thought into reality.

In religious circles, this power of belief can be a great benefit or tragic & perilous line of thought. As always, for the belief to be a positive or negative result, depends on what we choose to do with it.

Some "christians" believe that in order to protest the idea of abortions, they must bomb those clinics that perform the abortions.

As a Christian myself, I find it absurd that to protest the taking of a life, they must take a life. The abortion clinic bombers don't see the hypocrisy of what they are doing.
Dawkins thinks belief in God is an excuse to evade thinking in the scientific world. Sadly, he is ignorant to the list of christian scientists who have contributed & founded many of the sciences he himself believes in. How ironic.

Tell that to the WTC.

Without belief in something outside the box--dare I say, without some degree of faith--mankind would stagnate and rot into oblivion. Many of the meaningful discoveries in science and other fields of study as well, involve the drive to find something that the community says doesn't exist.

Without some level of belief or faith, we would accept only those things that have already been discovered, and reject any notions of things not yet discovered.

Belief is a spice of life, without which humanity over time would slowly curl up and die--out of boredom if nothing else.

Be thankful for belief and faith. For one thing, it's probably something that keeps event horizon alive. If there were no faithful believers in the world, event horizon wouldn't know what to do with himself. He would either die of sheer boredom, or, turn his ire toward people who--unlike Christians--would just as soon pop a cap in your ass for insulting them.

Many forms of "isms", e.g. theism ... atheism.. become dangerous when dogmatic behavior is taken to the extreme. This is possibly a consequence of humans inheritance of religiosity genes via the laws of biological evolution.

General agnosticism appears to be the best starting point in a philosophical and scientific search for an ultimate truth of existence.

Belief, a form of entertainment? That's its grand purpose, its place in human affairs?

How trivial.
