So it goes back to that other thread, and I'm not discouraged by not making tangible progress on answering the question above because I think it's a formidable question. It is easy to poke a hole in someone's definition of truth; hard to come up with one on my own. But if we can manage that, then we can answer your question about what makes a lie a lie.

Perhaps what makes a lie a lie is having no basis in reality but each and every term there is a huge can o' worms.
