I often like "real time" discussions.
Me too- I like real time discussions also.
Years ago, we used the chat room quite a bit, a bunch of us would set up a time and we would all meet, or one person would post a message in the Off Topics Members Lounge stating they would be in the chat room from certain times and others would Join etc. There were all kinds of ways we would meet in there.
Nowadays not so many people have been going into the chat- I check in there every once in a while. When I get to the home site of the vault, I log into my main profile: there is the option at the top right corner off the main page to log into your profile account, and from there while you are on the board, if you see someone else online, you can click on their profile, and on the top left of our profiles there is a chat icon. You type in a message and it becomes a pop up on their window, just like instant messaging. So thats a nice feature, although I don't think alot of the members know its there, they just see the chat option and maybe don't realise it is an instant message type deal.
Just thought I would point that out to you in case you didn't see it as another option.
