I like the theory that it's so much more than just alien (just aliens..ha!)
That they are beyond our dimensional understandings/constrainst at present..that they are so advanced that they can do that..dimesnion jump.

Also, maybe, that there is something to do with time in it..that they have both broken the time and dimension barrier/s (the same barrier could rule both) and that they are related to us or are US...that's why they take an interest.
