When you herd that news, this is an honest question. Were you more prone to thinking "Another one, this SOB has to be guilty", or "I wonder if the poor guy might be innocent"? Doesn;t the mear mention of this crime create a instant feeling of guilt, rather than innocence?
I'll agree the mere mention of such a crime creates an instant feeling of guilt, more so in the clergy,but in all walks of life as well.
There was a catholic bishop here in canada (east coast somewhere)who just recently got charged with having child porn on his laptop.
What made this story odd to me,when I read what was in the paper about him,is that he was a strong advocate for victims of sexual abuse and helped quite a few victims in their pursuit of justice on this issue.
he was caught in an airport by security with this porn on his latop..??
Would seem to me that there could well have been an ulterior motive for certain indivuals to download that stuff on his laptop, to discredit him,and therefore make his help with victims much more difficult. Its still an attempt to cover up the real abuse cases if that is what happened, and an innocent person had to pay the price for doing what he felt was the right thing to do.
