Back on subject here is one lawfirm located in Walnut creek, California, that specializes in these kind of cases. I did a simple search in yahoo for Catholic molestation lawfirm specialists. Not one time do they mention prosocuting anybody, they only talk about getting "victims" justice via an award of money and telling of past awards of $20 million dollars.

If you look at their website under awards and settlement, the vast majoriety never see trials. Its the art of getting settlements.

what I don't understand is if its false..why does the church settle? why do they not WANT it to go to court?

As far as my insuations of you greeney ,I realize I went way beyond the point of rational debate ,and for that I am truly sorry.But you must realize that you basically called me a liar which is name calling in my books.

As far as the proof i gave you being discredited,because of questionable ethics of the journalist (greg),thats fair as well.

I only wish all journalists in the main stream media would be held up to the same scrutinity as well.

As far as wanting proof for all claims and stories, I wish we could demand the proof beind all the stories and claims our politicians give us for the reasons we go to war.

I still stand on the side that there has been much more (worse in previous centuries) abuse in the catholic church that is very real, than their has been false claims made soley for monetary gain.

Quite by accident was looking up information on other topics ,and stumbled upon the "theories" of the illuminati, and they seemed quite possible .

As far as Dan Browns books,I haven't read any of them, or seen the movies, and gathered from what I've heard from those who have, doesn't paint a total true picture anyhow . I hardly trust hollywood and its propaganda machines for any kind of truth.

The answer to the above question is pretty simple at least in the United States. We have something known as Deep Pockets Lawsuits. This firm is a perfect example if you look at them, aside from just clery cases, what do they represent? Almost all of them settlements and suits where juries may not sypathize too much when the little guy has been wronged by the giant (who just happens to have money). Juries award huge awards agains insurance companies, corparate giants, Worldwide Churches like the Catholics, governement equal oppotunity employers, etc etc. Class action lawsuits forinstance involve many clients in one suit. Suits like Asbestos exposures, use landmark judgments against megacorporations that make these products dating back 40 years. People see TV adds or get mailers, and joint into these class action suits. The settle for huge sums because juries will award very big awards that are far greater. The process of USA civil lawsuits many times represents the worst in our legal system.

On a small scale, "ambulance chasers" turn a fender bender and tap on your rear bumper into quick settlement of the maximum of your liability coverage. They know what it costs just to take it to trial, so settlements save them, and they just adjust your coverage rates next year. These lawfirms profide your ciropractor, and all the experts who don't get paid unless there isa judgment. When they do they all cash in and you get about 25% of the award in the end. On a big scale, the deep pockets lawsuits go after awards of multimillion dollars. Multipy that by each major city archdioces, and this is an inflamatory alligation that the mere mention of the word "Pedifile" radiates guilt, and they are hard cases to take to court.

I think there are many many true cases of Peidfile Priests and Catholic Abuses. They range from the worst of imaginations to a child of First Communion Age, to the abuse of adults in the policies of the church that has converted people away in droves. I know there is wealth beyond belief in the Catholic Church, some of the most priceless art and artifacts are in the Vatican, some of which has not been seen in hundreds of years stored away.

Greeney ,I think its safe to say we both crossed the guidelines of good reasoning attempting to have a debate on the validity of sexual abuse claims.

I'm learning a lot here about checking resources ,making sure links work,and learning to express my thoughts without letting too much emotion take over.

If we go back to the original post greeney, you'll see I was only trying to say that despite the negative stuff that has happened in most religions,I don't want to put down the religion,and all the people in it.

I also don't want to imply that anyone who has committed these crimes should be damned forever(although the very extreme cases involving many victims makes me want them to be). I do believe in a higher merciful love that seeks for repentence(not punishment) , and works to heal and reform the soul to a divine love, which it was created for.That might sound silly to a lot of you, but its how I feel at this point in my journey called "life".

For whatever reasons some souls choose to stay in dark energies that compel them to do hurtful things to others, or they feel trapped and manipulated through guilt and remorse and continue in a loop
they can't break free of. I personally wish them the best in finding their path out of that darkness.

There are countless Christian folk who would tower above all of us in the intellect department, so the "weak-minded lemmings" shot does not hold water. If you believe it takes a weak mind to be religious, then you might want to explain why your mind is infinitely weaker than countless religious people.

When you herd that news, this is an honest question. Were you more prone to thinking "Another one, this SOB has to be guilty", or "I wonder if the poor guy might be innocent"? Doesn;t the mear mention of this crime create a instant feeling of guilt, rather than innocence?

To be honest, I didn't really think of any side, I rather find out more about it before I do.
If I would have heard more I would probably take the "blaming" part more.

As I've said, there are too many cases and stories about catholic priests and such commiting these crimes.
Whether most of them are true or not remains to be revealed but you cannot ignore that every year more and more of these cases appear.
Of course some of these cases might be just extortions from the "victim" aswell.
However I do not think most of them are just extortions of some kind, it just doesn't make sense.
But I'll wait and see.
