Racism is linked to serious opression....like, "go to the back of the bus"..slavery...genocide.
Where as name calling is just mean spiritedness. (I say that as if mean spiritedness is some light affair..it's not)
Actually racism can be seen as mean spiritedness gone amuck.(though, often enough it stems from ignorance..sometimes deliberate..deliberately chosen ignorance..which is just spritiual laziness)
It's a matter of degrees..and the power of speaking up in numbers.
Cruelness goes out of vogue when enough people speak up against it.
Enough people have been offended , or the victim of racism (or any kind of crulety, in general), that huge groups finally speak up against it.(power in numbers)
Look at how people are beginning to speak up about discrimination against and cruelty towards the obese..or the homosexual.
When people have had enough..an energy begins to grow..the tide turns..(back and forth and swirling..dancing around over time..wanting homeostasis of energies..yin-yang)
I say when in doubt..go to the "Golden Rule" (any relationship to the "Golden Mean", you wonder? Only in that it is beautiful and harmonizing)
"Whatever you do to the least of my people.."
“Whether you sniff it smoke it eat it or shove it up your ass the result is the same: addiction.”
― William S. Burroughs
