This falls into the category: Why wasn't the body sent to the university or museum for study.

I really hate it when people throw out a cryptid's corpse, it always makes the story fakey and possibly a hoax. You can't prove existence of a cryptid to the world at large and scientific community without the body generally or atleast pieces of it.

Looks like a sloth. Possibly exposed to some sort of acid or other chemicals to remove the hair and bleach the carcass.
