President Roosevelt in 1941. But like many other days of remembrance in our
countries history, it is fading into the abyss of modernism. The average
age of Pearl Harbor survivors and World War II veterans (generally speaking)
is about 90 years of age. They are becoming a lost generation. Recently, a
veteran of World War II was asked to address a class of school children.
When the teacher told the class of the impending visit of a Pearl Harbor
survivor, the teacher stated: "class, we will welcome a guest who is a
survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor" One student remarked.. who is she?
The point is simply this: if we don't take the time to remember our veterans
than we will pay homage to another lost element of our time. Visit your
veterans homes and hospitals every opportunity you get!
These are for the most part our living heroes. It's our responsibility as a
Fraternity and as a brotherhood to remember those who have served and
continue to serve so valiantly. Furthermore, I encourage you to support
local homeless shelter programs designed to care for our displaced and
homeless veterans. They too are in need and especially during this time of
year.
Happy remembrance day of the day that will "live in Infamy", 12/07/1941, and
rightfully so.
My Mom remembers she was going to the Movie's after Church in Chicago with some Girlfriends. When they got out, everyone was running about in a panic expecting Enemy Planes to come over any minute. From that time, the entire world changed and made it what it is today....
