Just thought of another one. Legends of the Fall when Decker kills the cops who shot his daughter. Calm, smoking his pipe and with his beat up thermos, just picks him off from a long distance.

Tombstone is probably the BEST movie overall with the best gunfights, , the OK coral is probably the best histrical reinactment..
but it was cut bad.
even then, it was STILL better than Kostners..

BUT, the best sound effects to a good gun fight..( other than private Ryan) was Open Range.
if you've never heard it in dolby surround, you're missing out..

although i THINK the MOST realistic one i've ever seen was Matewan..

it's also historical.

but the way it was done, made it the most frightening gun fight i've ever seen.
brutal, plain, and no bravado..

but Johnny Ringo vs Doc probably is the best gunfight i've ever seen..
the tension was right up there..
and the lines were perfect.

the landing at D Day and the village battle of ryan was almost enough for me to go into shock..
i can imagine how many vets from that war had some problems with that.

thanks for the list, there are some movies mentioned here that i will HAVE to look up.

Costner does one of the best mean sum-a-bitches I ever saw with a gun in Open Range...such a perfect snap case...ya..the "snapin" part...really put some feelin's in the killin'...

The scene in "The Patriot" where Benjamin Martin (Mel Gibson) and his two young sons rescue his oldest son from the Redcoats.

Who could forget this scene from THE GODFATHER when Michael has the heads of the Five Families wiped out?

VIDEO LINK

And who can ever forget this Classic Scene from THE UNTOUCHABLES ??????
