.(3) is a quite full description of 1/3.

1/3 is a full description of one-third or one-out-of-three.

.(3) is the decimal equivalent, yet, it's lacking. endlessly. infinitely.

In .(3) there is nothing happening, no process is occurring. JUst like 1/3.

doesn't .(3) mean "point 3 repeating." If not, then I've been off-base in all my messages.

Yep. Since I can't type a little bar over the 3, which is the usual notation, .(3) means ".3 repeating."

Then you are wrong bro.

1/3 means "1 out of 3." It's clean and neat.

.(3) means "point 3, with the 3 being repeated infinitely."

You don't see the difference?

frrostedman,
you rock, repeatedly, infinitely

This relates back to the point I brought into this, which is the mathmatics rules for rounding off numbers. When you round off the numbers by the rules, this trick with the 1/3 works out correctly back to 1.0. I think, but how did the mathmatics world decide on these rounding rules as exceptions, since math is considered absolute and exact?

That's not precisely what .(3) means, if we wanna get technical.

Numerically, there is no difference between 1/3 and .(3) although there is a difference in what the notation means (magically, they can be shown to be the same quantity).
