Hi, just want to start off with saying ive been a member of this site for a while now but for some reason my user wasnt there anymore (i havent been on in years though and its changed a lot so i guess its understandable)

Anyway im not sure where to post this but i figured this was the closest to right place, if not please move this or let me know.

My friend currently has a gold freemason ring (or at least thats what he says) that he is trying to sell me, ive been trying to figure out if its real or not for a little while now, it does have some interesting symbols engraved in it and does look somewhat old but im not an expert at this nor am i an expert on freemasonry so thats why ive come here to seek some help identifying this..

Im gonna add some high res pictures here of the ring and the engravings on it, so please let me know what you make of it

PL (not sure what this is)
G (freemason sign?)

The board underwent a change about 2 years ago, so everyone had to reregister and start over.

I have no idea about freemason rings, but I think you will find the markings inside the ring may be the hallmarks or codes , of who made it. You can look up the hallmarks on line, that may list the codes for the manufacturer of the ring. 18K obviously is 18 K gold, which has a standard to meet in order to place this symbol. Look up precious metals, hallmarks, and standards of alloys required for gold, silver, platinum. It will tell all about the standards for jewelery and precious metals. If you identify the hallmark, you may be able to contact them for further information about the ring. A few people here have a lot of knowledge about Freemasons, and probably know it by site if its a freemason ring.

Thanks for the reply, yeah i figured some people on here would probably know more about freemasonry then i do, whats interesting is the goldsmith actually referred to it as a freemason ring when we went to check how much it was worth

If the ring is something special then il probably buy it from him myself before he gets rid of it

I'm sure your goldsmith can look up and recognize those codes on the inside of the ring. Billy knows alot about freemasons if you PM him. Why would you want it if you were not a Mason? Could your goldsmith put a time or date on it from the hallmarks, and finding it in some catalog maybe?

From the looks of typical mason jewelery, it doesn't seem to be the theme found on these on this website. I'm no expert but I think those kind of knots are something link Celtic sort of thing, but I really have no idea. Good Luck figuring it out.

I know ive been googleing a lot but i havent found one ring that looks like this at all, im gonna talk to my friend tomorrow and see if we can ask the goldsmith again about what he thinks of the age and stuff

Also im kinda interested in stuff like secret societies and conspiracies and all that so if its actually something rare/valuable/not supposed to be in the hands of just anyone then it would probably be worth taking care of
