Congress Cuts VA Health Funds

Subtitle: Congress Disenfranchises 130K Vets

It's ironic, in a way. I'd been having some cash flow problems lately, and went searching for alternative health care, since I can't afford normal health insurance. That's with two incomes combined, and we're not living beyond our means. So, I figured it was time to draw on an untapped resource I had available; I'm a vet, temporarily lower income, thought it was worth a shot.

Went to the local VA clinic to find out what info they needed, and what services I could get. They gave me an application, & a pamphlet to read. Looks like I would fall into Priority 7 or 8, full services available, probably with co-pay. The application's on my computer desk as I type, not filled out yet.

Got off work today, got comfy, fire up the 'puter, checked my email: one from Military.com mentioned the new GI Bill, and VA budget cuts. Specifically, health budget, to the tune of $6 billion. About 1.3 million vets affected, Priority 7 & 8, with an estimated 130K vets that won't be eligible any more since 'they have access to other health care options'.

Blues, looks like it will be a few more years before I get that degree I was working on; my Pell grant was reduced to practically nothing, so I withdrew, and went back to work. What a shame, I was carrying a 3.5 average, with 1/3 of the required credits complete as of last July.

Which makes two programs in a row that Congress, and the Obama administration, jerked out from under my feet, as well as those of tens of thousands of other American citizens. Meanwhile, I'm sitting here quietly, contemplating how I should dispose of that now-useless VA health care application. :? :x

It is disgusting how they continually take money from military veterans yet keep approving funding for useless stuff such as the Department of Education, National Endowment for the Arts, and the Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Interagency Coordinating Committee(just imagine the bureaucratic nightmare that one is).
